The Pharisees use the question of marriage and divorce in another attempt to test and trap Jesus. Jesus turns their question into a teaching that allows all of us to reflect on the real purpose of marriage. Jesus responds by referring to the Book of Genesis, when he says: From the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. So they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate. Marriage was instituted by God to contribute good to the world. The unity of wife and husband becoming one flesh gives us a glimpse of the unity within the Holy Trinity, the perfect love and unity of three Divine persons in one God. It is also a reflection of the love God has for us. Since God created him man and woman, their mutual love becomes an image of the absolute and unfailing love with which God loves man (CCC 1604). The good news of the Gospel is that Jesus Christ has come into the world to reconcile us to God and to one another. By coming to restore the original order of creation disturbed by sin, he himself gives the strength and grace to live marriage in the new dimension of the Reign of God. It is by following Christ, renouncing themselves, and taking up their crosses that spouses will be able to receive the original meaning of marriage and live it with the help of Christ. This grace of Christian marriage is a fruit of Christ’s cross, the source of all Christian life (CCC 1615). As the people of God, we should not be swayed by how society or others think of marriage, and rediscover how our faith understands marriage. Marriage is a vocation, a calling to life and love between husband and wife. It means following the way of selfless love that Jesus embraced on the Cross. Every marriage that comes before the Lord, gives the couple the vision to see Christ’s love poured out for us in his Body and Blood. This is where a couple at their wedding can begin to give themselves to each other the way Christ gives Himself for us. God Bless, Msgr. Maresca

MASSES FOR THE WEEK
TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
My Dear Parishioners, Today’s First Reading and Gospel gives all of us, especially married couples, all those preparing for marriage, and those who might enter marriage one day, much to reflect upon. The Pharisees use the question of marriage and divorce in another attempt to test and trap Jesus. Jesus turns their question into a teaching that allows all of us to reflect on the real purpose of marriage. We want to thank our Fall Festival Committee for all
their hard work in planning our 12th Annual Fall Festival, and to all the dedicated volunteers who gave their time to help out in so many capacities throughout the day. We
could never continue this event each year without everyone’s assistance.
We especially want to thank Mr. Fabrizi and
Mr. Cangemi for the many hours they spent in setting up the lighting and electrical connections for the Fall Festival. We also want to thank our school parents,
families, friends, and parishioners for coming out and supporting our parish and academy at the
festival. We are so grateful for all the donations that we received for the festival; and last, but
not least, a big Thank You to Spitfire and Friends for the live music they provide throughout the day. Their music
is terrific and certainly adds to the fun and excitement of the day.
Our SFACA Spirit Week was a great success this past
week thanks to Mrs. Zotto and the Home Academy for organizing the event and Mrs.
Angelika Mincone for planning all the sports events for the children. We also want to thank Mr. Vorlicek for
organizing the Burger King Lunch for all the students and Mr. S. Zilinski for his donation of
bagels and coffee for our volunteers.
