Follow us on Dear NAIFA MA Members, Happy New year to Everyone. NAIFA MA is off to a great start this year and we wrapped up in December with some training in Washington DC. Our board is in full swing with the Western MA legislative breakfast in January, a CE Event in March, the May National Fly in at the end of May and our annual meeting upcoming in June. Several of our board members went down to DC for Political involvement and political action training. This is sponsored by NAIFA national to make sure each state is up to sped in both areas. We were represented by Mike Elcock, Brad Kadelski, Matt Berard, Adam Sachs, and Jules Gaudreau. We thank them for their continued effort on our behalf. In January we co-hosted our annual Western MA Legislative Breakfast in Springfield, MA The meeting was attended by well over 50 people and we had about 9 legislators in attendance. This meeting ends up with the politicians saying a few words and roasting each other but we are also able to connect with them and continue to educate on our association and bills to be aware of. This event is largely put together by Daryl Grabowski and Alan Stearley and we thank them for their efforts. Elisa Chan and her programs committee will be hosting a CE event on March 9th for all members that will need the ethics component. Take a look at the website and register. It should be a great event. Lastly, be on the lookout for the NAIFA Congressional Conference that takes place on May 23rd and 24th. You may have heard of this DOL Rule that is happening. What you may not now is that NAIFA national and its members included locals have been meeting with their Senators and Representatives helping shape the outcome of this bill. With Tax reform and other major initiatives on the docket it is important for us to keep the lines of communication open with our legislators. I truly enjoy this meeting every year and it is nice to tell your clients the lobbying you do on their behalf. Come join us! As it is only February and your year is just kicking off, NAIFA MA year is almost over at the end of June. If you are thinking about giving back or becoming more involved in a committee or just wondering how you can help, feel free to join us at our upcoming board meeting on March 2nd at the Verve Hotel in Natick from 3 to 5pm with a social hour to follow with our existing board members and committee members. Dear NAIFA MA Members,
Happy New year to Everyone.

NAIFA POLICY ON RECRUITING AND ASSOCIATION ACTIVITIES The official activities of NAIFA and its state and local associations shall not be used as a forum or means for individual members to actively or directly recruit other members to their companies or agencies (i.e., proselytizing). Association time and resources must focus on NAIFA’s mission to advocate for a positive legislative and regulatory environment, enhance business and professional skills, and promote the ethical conduct of our members. Proselytizing is not consistent with this mission and is not appropriate association business. This policy shall not be construed to interfere with an individual member’s freedom to recruit others on their own time, in connection with their own business affairs, apart from association activities. This policy also shall not be constructed to preclude company or agency advertising, exhibits, or sponsorships, in connection with association publications or activities.
In the past four years, over three thousand NAIFA members from every corner of the country came to Washington, D.C., and visited Capitol Hill to meet with lawmakers and advise them on how their decisions affect agents, brokers, and their clients. One of the best ways to exercise NAIFA’s core benefit, grassroots advocacy, has become easier to access with a payment of your hotel stay by NAIFA MA. This payment is in addition to the reimbursement from National of $300 for the first 500 attendees.
GENERAL GUIDELINES To be eligible for the $300 stipend, you must:
1. Be an active NAIFA member as of May 23rd, 2017; 2. Attend the Congressional Conference; 3. Have paid your $100 registration fee by April 21st, 2017; 4. Stay at the official Conference hotel(s). We encourage you to room with another NAIFA member; however, this is not mandatory. 5. Submit a debriefing form, which summarizes each meeting you attended with a member of Congress.6. Room payment will be made directly to the hotel. Please do not attempt to make payment yourself. 7. If your company is reimbursing the cost of attending, this reimbursement supersedes NAIFA MA hotel payment. 8. Dinner will be available on the night of 23rd for those who would like to attend.
If you don’t act quickly and meet the guidelines for the NAIFA National Stipend, you only will be eligible for the NAIFA MA hotel payment! As Paul R. Dougherty, 2016-2017 NAIFA President stated, the looming threats to our industry are very real. Your professional association – NAIFA – needs you to attend the 2017 Congressional Conference to ensure that laws and regulations enhance, not restrict, the ability of middle market families to have access to the products and services we offer. Please join me in May where together, we will make a difference.
Don’t delay! Register Now! Reimbursement spots will go fast at www.naifa.org! For additional information about the Conference, view the FAQs.
Sincerely,Adam Sachs, CFP

The cornerstone of any viable organization is the members. Without NAIFA MA members we have no voice to encourage support or opposition to laws and regulations that directly impact our livelihoods and

On March 14, 2011, an SEC “pay to play” rule designed to limit the influence of political contributions by investment advisers and certain associated persons in the awarding of advisory contracts by state and local governments went into effect. Among other things, the rule prohibits investment advisers from receiving compensation for services provided to a state or local government for two years following political contributions to certain state or local officials.
In response to the rule, a number of companies have adopted compliance requirements that limit contributions by investment adviser representatives to political action committees (PACs) and state or local officials. You must check with your company’s compliance department regarding any limitations on your ability to make political contributions under the pay-to-play rule. (If you are covered by the rule, your compliance department may limit your contribution to only NAIFA’s federal PAC. If you are not covered, your compliance department should permit your contribution to be shared between NAIFA’s federal PAC and your state association PAC.)
After you have consulted your compliance department, please check the applicable boxes below to instruct IFAPAC regarding the appropriate distribution of your IFAPAC contribution.
❏❏ I have read and understand this directive. (required)
CHECK ONE BOX:Note: If you do not check a box below, your entire contribution will be directed to NAIFA’s federal PAC.
❏❏ Please share my IFAPAC contribution between NAIFA’s federal PAC and my NAIFA state association PAC. I agree to reconfirm my compliance status and change this directive, if necessary, should I change or add companies.
OR
❏❏ Please direct my entire contribution to NAIFA’s federal PAC, to be used only for contributions to national party committees and the campaigns of candidates (except state and local officials) for the U.S. Congress.
Contributions to IFAPAC must be personal, not corporate. Contributions made on corporate or LLC accounts will be directed in their entirety to NAIFA’s federal administrative fund to help defray the costs of administering NAIFA’s federal PAC. NAIFA disclaims responsibility for any damage or liability that may arise from contributions to IFAPAC based on the SEC “Pay to Play” Rule or from any company compliance requirements related to that Rule.
