“When you follow a star, only to discover a stable”

It seems that many times, like the wise men/magi, we start following a star only to discover that it leads to a stable. How many times do we get excited about a new job; only to discover that it was not what we thought it would be? Engaged couples can’t wait to be married; only to discover that marriage is hard work. We get a great Christmas gift; only to discard it three weeks later. Who hasn’t gone on vacation with friends for the first time; only to dis-cover that maybe it was not such a great idea. We follow stars; only to dis-cover stables. Yet, for the magi when they finally gazed on the child Jesus in the stable they were so overwhelmed with joy that they offered him their most precious of gifts: gold; frankincense; myrrh. For each of us, we have the grace to turn stables into blessings by doing the same. We must con-stantly be giving our most precious of gifts: time; talents; concern; under-standing; patience; etc…. Instead of disliking your job, take time to look for the blessings that come from the job. Instead of staying angry with your spouse, go the extra mile to do something special for them on a regular ba-sis. Instead of constantly wanting what is the newest and best, enjoy what you have. Instead of focusing on what you can't do, make the best of what you can do. No matter how difficult those plain, boring stables can be, they can become incredible blessings. We just have to make sure that we are giv-ing our best. For when you are constantly giving your best, the stars God places in your life will lead to blessed, amazing stables.

Stewardship Thought Today’s second reading reminds us that through Christ we

have been delivered from the old law and have become sons and daughters of God. New Year’s Day provides a per-

fect opportunity to ask ourselves the question: Does my life

reflect my gratitude for all that my loving Father has given me?

Please remember in your daily prayers the sick and

suffering of our parish family.

This course examines the concept of “sacrament” as it developed from pre-Christian times, was formally de-
