Newsletter January 2019
Monthly meetings are usually on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. However the next meeting will be the AGM on Tuesday 22nd January 2019 at the Federal Hotel (6.30pm for 7.00pm start). Some nibbles will be provided. All members are welcome to attend.
Welcome to January 2019! The Annual General Meeting will be on Tuesday 22nd January 2019 at the Federal Hotel (6.30pm for 7.00pm start). Some nibbles will be provided. All members are welcome to attend. After the annual reports, all current committee positions will be declared vacant, then nominations will be taken and a new committee elected for 2019. No-one will be pressured into accepting a position on the committee, although if you are willing to be nominated, that will be terrific. Maybe you would be willing to take on an Assistant role, so that you can learn how things work, without having full responsibility. Plus, committee members do have a bit of a laugh and enjoy friendship and peer support through our participation in the committee and the monthly meetings. This newsletter also includes the MARC Christmas party End of Year Points Trophy winners 2019 MARC Events Calendar I have quite enjoyed producing the newsletter this year and hope you have enjoyed it too. I wish the next newsletter editor all the best and of course will be happy to pass on any tips that I have found helpful. Sharing a little adage – “We tend to forget that happiness doesn’t come from what we don’t have, but rather of recognising and appreciating what we do have” – Frederick Koenig Finally I wish you and your horses Good Health, Lots of Enjoyment, and at least some Success in your aspirations for 2019. Sue Thurlow
I think the most important sentence is the second. Be it Dressage, Showing, Jumping, Trail riding, or whatever, all riding should be about learning to be a good load for the horse to carry. Balanced, clear in our aids, quick to reward (praise, or lighten the aid) when the horse responds as we want, (or gets closer to the desired response), and consistency. In order to do this well, we also need to work on our own fitness and our ability to control our own body, independent of the horse’s movements. Some of my goals for 2019!

2018 MARC - Special Awards
Club Member of the Year Lynne Larkin
Patron’s Award Anna Szyszka
Lynne Larkin – MARC Club member of 2018 with Monique Bonus who Lynne and her trophy collection was the previous Club Member of the Year
Above Left: Lynne Larkin receives the 2018 MARC Club Member of the year award. This is an annual award to a club member, who may not be competitively successful, but who makes a major contribution to the club. Nominations are taken and the committee has a secret ballot to decide the winner. Lynne is a successful competitor but received the award because of her enormous efforts to achieve EQ 2 star rating for our Dressage Championships, for her efforts to have MARC recognised as EQ Dressage Club of 2017, and also for all the other work she does for the club! Below Left: Anna Szyszka received the Patrons Encouragement Award. This award is encouragement for a member who regularly participates and contributes to the club activities, but who is yet to have much competitive success.
