INTRODUCTION

Maruti Udyog Ltd was founded on february 1981.

The company changed their name from Maruti Udyog Ltd to Maruti Suzuki India Ltd in the year 2007.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd is India's largest passenger car company, accounting for over 50 percent of the domestic car market.

It is a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan. The company is engaged in the business of manufacturing, purchase and sale of motor vehicles and spare parts .

Two manufacturing plants:

1.Gurgaon- First car rolled out ( Maruti 800)

2.Manesar

PRODUCTION HISTORY…… 1983- the company started their productions and launched Maruti 800.

1984, they introduced Maruti Omni .

1985-they launched Maruti Gypsy in the market.

In the year 1987, the company forayed into the foreign market by exporting first lot of 500 cars to Hungary.

In the year 1993, they introduced the Maruti Zen

1994,they launched Maruti Esteem in the market.

In the year 1995, the company commenced their second plant.

In the year 1999, the third plant with new press, paint and assembly shops became operational.

In the year 2000, the company launched Maruti Alto in the market.

In the year 2002, Suzuki Motor Corporation increased their stake in the company to 54.2%.

In the year 2005, the company launched the first

world strategic model from Suzuki Motor

Corporation 'the SWIFT' in India.

LOCATION

It has two plants

1) Gurgoan:

This is where it all began, where the first Maruti 800 rolled out.

Spread over 300-acres.

The Gurgaon Plant has 25% area dedicated as green area.

This plant turns out 9 lakh cars every year.

An advanced K-Series engine assembly has already produced

over 10 lakh advanced K-Series engines.

2) MANESAR:

This Plant spreads over 600 acres and houses 3 fully-integrated

plants, with an annual capacity of 5.5 lakh cars.

At Manesar, our JV Suzuki Powertrain India Ltd is manufacturing

world-class diesel engines.

Currently at 3 lakh engines per year, plans are underway to up

production. To turn out 7 lakh diesel cars annually.

FACILITY LAYOUT

Facilities is defined as the workspace and equipment needed to

carry out the operations of the organization.

Product Layout• Involves the arrangement of machines in one line, depending

upon the sequence of operations.

CAPACITY PRODUCTION

Gurgoan :

Producing 9 lakh cars p/a.

Producing 10 lakhs of engines anually based on demand.

Manesar:

It has 3 fully-integrated plants, with an annual capacity of 5.5 lakh cars.

Producing 3 lakh diesel engines anually.

K series engines- 1 litre,1.2 litre & 1.4 litre.

Several Maruti Suziki cars such as Alto K10, A-star, Wagon R, Swift , Swift Dzire, Ritz & Ertiga are powered by K- series engines.

Both facilities are highly automated with advanced robotics, weld & machining infrastructure.

76% of the company’s suppliers are located with in

100 kms of radius (JIT) which includes components

such as fuel tanks,bumpers,seats etc.

Suziki. Bimetal Bearings Ltd., Coimbatore- Engine

Bearings & Thrust Washes

AMALGAMATION CLUTCH LTD., CHENNAI-

Manufacturer of clutch assemblies.

2000,Alto -2000,Swift -2005, Swift Dzire -2008, Ritz

-2009, Alto K10 -2010.

FIAT

Fiat (Fabbrica Italian Automobile Torino) founded on 11th july

1899 at Palazzo,Italy.

In india,the company was established in1905, as Bombay

Motor Cars Agency as its sales agent.

Fiat India Automobiles is a joint venture between Fiat and

Tata Motors.

PLANT AT RANJANGOAN

FACILITY

The Fiat India Automobiles manufacturing facility is

spread over 200 acres and is located at

Ranjangaon near Pune.

Over 4000 highly trained personnel are directly or

indirectly employed by the plant and they have

contributed immensely to achieve this landmark

feat.

PRODUCTION

Fiat India Automobiles Ltd has rolled out their 250,000th car

and 500,000th engine from its state of the art Ranjangaon

plant in Pune.

Fiat India Automobiles supplies world class petrol and diesel

engines to leading automobile companies in India like Maruti

Suzuki, TATA Motors and Premier Automobiles Ltd.

FIAL, a joint venture company, is capable of

producing 200,000 cars and 300,000 engines

annually besides 300,000 parts & accessories.

FIAL currently manufactures Linea, Grande Punto,

Tata Manza, Indica Vista and Indica V2.

The facility also manufactures Fiat’s successful 1.3

litre Multijet diesel engine and 1.2 & 1.4 litre Fire

gasoline engine.
