The partners of The Martin Design Partnership have accumulated a vast amount of experience in architectural
design in many sectors of construction. The services provided have the flexibility to cater for a number of
construction project types and client needs.
The practice is located at the heart of the country in Leicester which is ideally located to serve its client base
both locally and nationally.
Our philosophy is to produce high quality designs and to complete projects to meet the client’s budget
and programme.
The success of a project relies on understanding, appraisal and communications.
This is achieved by
■ Establishing a relationship between the client and our design team is important to us in order to establish
an understanding of his needs.
■ Interpreting the client’s requirements which are reviewed at all stages of the project’s development.
■ The placing of a high priority on communications with the client and all members of the design team.
This ability to facilitate rapid response times which capitalise on the use of e-communications with all
involved in the project.
In order to meet the high expectations of our clients the practice has a fully networked computer system utilising
the latest software packages for computer aided design, contract administration & construction management.

Design Stratergies
We use the same design philosophy for industrial and civil projects as
that for food factories. This care and attention can be seen in our
integrated solutions to complex problems.
We are involved with site investigation and feasibility
stages for industrial buildings and light industrial starter
units for private development and speculation. Our
experience in estate development, infrastructure and
circulation enables sites to be identified or discounted
quickly at minimal cost to the client.
Intergrated Sprinkler Systems
The increased involvement by insurance companies in the
specification and construction of building materials has led
to an increased involvement with the integration of sprinkler
system installations into the fabric of exisiting buildings.
The need to satisfy the requirements of IPPC regulations has led to an increase
in the development of civil projects to combat excessive effluent discharges. Our strategic design
of interception tanks, settling tanks & DAF units on industrial and food sites has been ancillary to our
primary role.

Historic Basis
We are well versed in many aspects of commercial sector design.
We have a historic basis of designing shop interiors and new build structures
for large multiple food outlets and chemist outlets.
This knowledge has been useful in our designs of more modest
shop units recently completed.
The use of computer aided design in the production of
office layouts has increased the ability to offer a range of
layouts to help clients understand the possible
alternatives available. We have used this technique to
great success when carrying out office re-organisations,
group headquarters and rationalisation projects.
Philosophy
As part of the design process we use presentation
colour boards and visualizations to assist the client in
having a clear understanding of proposed interior & exterior
finished solutions.
We use our experience and programming to maintain the clients ability
to operate during refurbishment and construction projects with the minimum
of disruption.
The recent completion of car showrooms has proved our philosophy is very effective and future projects
are underway based on the same principles.

C D M CoordinatorWe are registered members of the Association of Project Safety C D M Coordinators and perform their duties on 98% of our projects.
Regulatory Reform OrderOur expertise of fire regulations & passive fire measures has resulted in a reputation of being able to resolve issues that has avoided litigation and closure. Our commissions include fire risk assessments and the replacement of the old style Fire Certificates with Fire Safety Manuals as prescribed by RRO 2005 and BS9999,2008.
Contract AdministrationWe are commissioned to give advice & report on constructional and contractual issues that are a prelude to litigation or in most cases will enable an amicable resolution of circumstances.
Clients that are involved in certain installations will instruct the works to be commenced but will commission the practice to act as contract administrator for the duration of the works.
Project ManagementWhere the project dictates a main contractor is not practical or economic we have the experience to take on the role of management contractor. This enables a direct contact with the trade contractors which we consider is an advantage to achieving the client’s needs.
Practice DevelopmentCPD seminars & construction courses keep our design team abreast of changes to regulations, contracts, current legislation and standards.
We are members of the British Standards Institute which enables early notification of new standards & codes of practice.
In order to maintain our high standards of documentation we subscribe annually to utilise
■ NBS Contract administration
■ NBS Building full version
■ NBS Scheduler
We maintain a full technical & trade literature library which is constantly updated.

Understanding Clients’ Needs
The need for understanding of a client’s needs and requirements is no more important than in the design
of houses, residential extensions, flats and student accommodation.
We discuss with the individual residential client his needs and formulate a design brief to aid understanding
of the objectives of the project. Our designs reflect the brief and illustrate possible alternatives that may not
have been considered when first considering the project.
Commercial Potential
With the increase in the availability of brown field sites and backland development our expertise in assessing
potential solutions allows clients the ability to respond quickly to financial deadlines.
We keep abreast of the recent changes in standard required to meet current legislation for renewable energy,
thermal and sound insulation which are incorporated into the design of the developments from an early
design stage.
Our designs reflect our consideration of the surrounding environment harmonising with neighbouring
structures and environment.
Affordable Housing
The practice has experience in designing to housing
corporation guidelines having completed a number
of projects for the UK’s leading housing
associations.
