This term we have been able to celebrate the academic success of our students across a range of different areas. The focus on STEM continues to grow in the lead up to our new STEM Centre of Excellence, with the National Science Week event a memorable addition to our calendar. Reports will be emailed to all parents by the end of this week and I would encourage all families to use this feedback to help formulate plans for success next term. Next term we will celebrate the culmination of 12 years of schooling for our seniors. We have a new post COVID Gala Awards Night where we will celebrate our key awards in our new Performing Arts Centre of Excellence. Our Senior Formal will also go ahead within the Government guidelines at the Gold Coast Convention Centre. Our Graduation will also occur within the structures allowed, with our focus on supporting our students to celebrate the key milestones of their final year of schooling. Next term we will also celebrate our Arts Programs with our annual Arts Showcase. While we will have to make some adjustments with the COVID regulations, we are looking forward to hosting our first ever Arts Showcase here at the school. Last week we welcomed Johnathan Thurston to Marsden SHS to launch his JT Connect Employment program. Johnathan spoke passionately about his desire to help engage students in education and training leading to employment. The partnership with one of our key existing partners in Deadly Choices also helps to support the long term success of the work of the JT Academy. Week 1 of Term 4 will also see Marsden host our annualCareers Expo. This is a fantastic opportunity for students toconnect with over 30 industry representatives, RTO’s, TertiaryStudy Providers and Employment and Training Organisations. This will continue to provide opportunities for students to askpathways questions, and continue to explore their potentialfuture world of work.
This week in MMM students explored the concepts of‘emotional awareness’ and ‘self-regulation’, assisting studentsto understand that resilient people don’t get ‘stuck’ in anemotion. Although they might feel sad or scared, they useself-regulation so that these feelings don’t prevent them fromcoping with the situation and moving forward. Why not askyour child, what one key take away message was from thelesson? What is one strategy they may put in place in orderfor them to continue to increase their resilience throughout theirSenior Schooling Journey?
Throughout the term students have built productiverelationships with their Marsden Mako Mentors and areencouraged to also utilise them for direction and assistance ifthey require support throughout the rest of the year and intothe future.
