Requesting New Account – General Information

Accounts Categories

Markit’s Terms & Conditions & User Guidelines includes the types of accounts and the permitted registry functions available to those account holders

Cost for Account Opening

Accounts for Project Developers are free to set-up. Charges are only incurred when Pending Issuance Credits (PIUs) are issued at validation or converted at verification.. Fees for Buyer accounts have been waived through the end of 2017.

Requesting a New Account

1. Click on the link: Complete the Online Markit Environmental Registry Application: 2. Complete the New Account Form with

the following details

3. Agree to the Markit Environmental Registry Terms and Conditions by clicking the Checkbox

4. In the Preferences section select UK Woodland Carbon Code

5. Click “Submit”

6. After your account request is submitted you will receive a confirmation email

7. Regulator (Forestry Commission) approves account, Markit Operations team will review account application and request customer to upload identification documentation through the registry

8. You will receive the following 2 emails one is a Welcome mail from [email protected] which would have your login credentials another is a mail from the registry requesting you to upload identification documentation

9. Follow the link that was sent to you in the Markit “Welcome” email.

Logging into Markit Environmental Registry

12. Navigate to www.markit.com

13. Select the green LOGIN button in the upper right and corner of the page:

• The following page will be displayed

• Enter your unique username and password in the designated fields

This will direct you to the Markit home page. The first time a user logins into Markit.com, the default Markit product will need to be identified. This is done on the upper right hand corner of the page. In the image below the product name is set to Source. Hold your cursor over the current product name and a dropdown list will appear. Scroll down the list until the name Registry appears and select it. If the name Registry is not in the list, contact [email protected]

Registry security at login:

• The first time you login you will be directed to “Generate Session Code”

• This is a form of Browser identification - If you are a new user the Registry recognizes that the browser has not been used to login previously, and requests that you validate your access using a session code

• If a user accesses the Registry from a new computer or browser, it will request that you validate your access using a session code again.

• When a session code is requested for validation it is typically sent to you in an email. SMS notification is available if needed by contacting the Registry Operations support team.

• Once you have entered the verification code it will be valid for 30 days

4. Insert provided session code into the text box. Note that this code is case-sensitive.

5. Click on the “Verify” button.

6. You will be logged into the Registry.

Once you have logged into the Registry successfully the My Account Summary page will be displayed. A new user will need to upload a Government issued photo ID to gain full access to the Registry application.

• Click on the Username in the upper left hand corner of the page and the User details window will be displayed

• Click on the Documents button to upload a Photo ID, a scan from a Passport or a Driver’s License is fine

• Click on the Add Documents button to upload a photo ID

• Click on the Browse button to Search for the file containing your photo ID and then click the Upload button

• Then Save the file

• The final step is to Submit the document.

Once Markit Operations has reviewed the ID they will Activate the login and the user will receive the following email. Once the account is Active, all menus will be available.

• Once you have logged into the system, you will be presented with the following form, you may select Not Now unless you want to change a mobile number.

• Enter your mobile phone number and press the “Verify” button

• You will receive an SMS message with the verification code.

• Enter the code you received into the text box below.

• Click on the “OK” button.

• Now your mobile phone number is recorded in the system.

Project registration

Single Project:

• Create as a New Project

• All documents are stored together in the single project

• Workflow status can be changed as soon as individual project is ready

Group Project

• Create one Master Project for the group, and one sub-project for each project in the group. An additional sub-project is created so that all group project documents may be stored in one place

• Map of Site may be stored with each sub-project; all other documents are stored in the ‘group documents’ subproject’

• Workflow status must be changed for all sub-projects at the same time

Project registration- Under Development

1. Go to “My projects and Issuances” Menu

2. Select your account from the “Projects” window on the left side of the page

3. Click on the New button and select New Project to display the Project Details Window

4. Click the “New Master Project” button to display the Master Project Details window. Add the Project Name and Project Details, then click the Save button.

4. To add a sub-project to a group select the Master Project Name and click the New button. Click New (Sub Project) button to display the Project Details window

Project Under Development The Project Details window is used for both individual projects and sub-projects

5. Enter project name, project description and click “Add Activity”

6. A row will be added to your project activity

7. Select Category, Standard from drop down menu the Project type

8. Enter the Start Date of Implementation, Start and End date for Crediting Period

9. You may or may not select a Validator at this step

10. Select “Site details”

11. Complete the “Site detail” form and “Save”. The Markit Operations team will convert the Grid reference to Latitude/Longitude coordinates if you do not know them.

15. To upload documents, select “Document” and a list of required documents will be displayed

16.Select “Choose a file” and browse for the document, then click “Upload”

17. You can add additional documents by clicking “Add Document” and remove any document uploaded by clicking “Remove Document”

18. Click “Save as a draft”, then click “Under Development”

19. The project will be reviewed by the Regulator (Forestry Commission) and Markit Operations

20. You will receive an email confirming the result of project review

21. If the Regulator (Forestry Commission) REJECTS the status changes back to Pending Review – Under Development (Customer)

Project Rejected

The project developer will receive an email with any comments that have been added by the Forestry Commission or Markit.

Project Developer reviews the comments, makes necessary changes and re-submits the project again.

When Regulator (Forestry Commission) & Markit both approve the project the status gets updated to Under Development

• After the project is “Approved” it will change status and become activated with the selected status

Listing Pending Issuance Units (PIUs) • The Markit Operations Team is responsible for Listing PIUs once a project has

been Validated and Markit has received payment for the PIU Issuance Invoice.

• Functionalities:

• Once your PIUs are listed they will become “Active” in your account. You will then be able to transfer them to a buyer, Assign them to be automatically retired once they are verified, or list them on the RFI Platform on the “Manage My Units” page

• You can filter the view of the page by using the left side of the page as well as by sorting the columns

• Registry security for transfers

- SMS messaging confirms your identity when making transfers

- After your first transfer is completed, any additional transactions during this business day will not require further verification via SMS

1. Client confirmation of initiation of transfers is completed via a verification code.

2. Select your units to transfer and press the “Transfer” button.

• To enter the transfer window, you will be prompted to enter a security code.

• Press the “Generate Security Code” button.

• An SMS message will be sent to your mobile device.

Performing Transfers

• You will receive a transaction code via SMS.

• Enter the code into the Registry.

• When your code is verified, you will be able to proceed with your transfer.

• Transfers can occur between project developers and other buyer accounts on the Registry • Before requesting a transfer ask the buyer to provide the 15 digit Registry account

number: - Enter the 15 digit numeric account ID provided by your counterparty - Click the search button and select the box - Edit the amount of credits to be transferred if needed

• The following message will appear, select Yes

• The status of the credits will automatically change to “Pending Transfer (Customer)”

• An email notification will be sent to the seller and the buyer

• The buyer will then login to their account and go to “Manage My Units” page

• Under the status column there will be a “Pending Transfer (Customer)” notification in blue

• Double click on the notification in blue text and the following transfer form will be displayed.

• The transfer will be completed and the seller and the buyer will receive a confirmation email

• The credits will become “Active” in the buyers account

Assignments and Retirements

What is Assignment

• Assignment allows Validated units, or PIUs, to be committed for Retirement as soon as the units are verified and converted to WCUs

• Assignment is irreversible, and assigned units may not be transferred to another party. All assigned credits will automatically be changed to retired credits once they are verified.

• Remarks may be included at the time of assignment using a standard template. At retirement the remarks will reflect the change of status from Assigned to Retired, maintain the account name or name of the individual or company it is on behalf of.

• Why Assign PIUs:

> To be transparent about any upfront sales of CO2 from woodland creation projects

> Publically demonstrate your commitment to Retiring Credits once they have been verified

> Showcase the Assignment in the Markit Public View

Assigning PIUs in the Registry

• Go to “Manage My Units”, select the block of Active credits and then click the “Assign” button

Complete the Assignment form which opens

• Fill in the Quantity

• If the assignment is on the behalf of a client, select the “Assign on behalf of” option” and identify the company or person it is on behalf of, and any clarification on what the assignment is for

• If the assignment is on behalf of account holding the PIUs, then add any additional comments. For example, “Equates to 2015 GHG emissions”.

• Remember that Assignments are difficult to reverse and comments are difficult to change

Retirement of Verified Units

• Once a verification has been approved, the verified units, WCUs, may be retired. This is sometimes referred to as used.

• Go to “Manage My Units”, select the block of Active credits and then click the “Retire” button

• A form will be displayed containing the retirement details:

- Edit the amount to be retired

- Enter retirement remarks

- After you click “Ok” a confirmation message will be

displayed

Request-for-Information (RFI) Platform – General Information

1. The Markit RFI Platform is an anonymous online platform for the over-the-counter (OTC) voluntary carbon market that displays credits available for sale or purchase including indicative quantities and price

2. These credits are searchable and viewable by registered sellers and buyers

3. Upon interest in any credits the sellers or buyers can send an "Expression of Interest" to the counterparty, whereby the counterparty can permission the interaction

4. Introduction through the Markit RFI platform then enables the two parties to discuss the terms of a potential bilateral transaction
