Industry Associations- (even if not in your Industry) Most have fees, but also have openings and contact lists for all members.
Local Sport Associations- Most people involved with both kids and adult sporting associations are connected people.
Local Government Boards- (Economic Development, Board of Education, etc.)
Get involved run for office (Membership Directory)
Local Clubs

Visit the Advancement Office, they will know everyone that is making the big $$ that has the power to hire.
Many schools have internal network meetings or websites.
Workforce Development
Have listings of jobs and relationships with local companies.
Even if you are currently employed you can still look at what is going on.
Many offer government programs for expanding your education.
Local office links to all offices in the state enabling you to broaden your search.
Volunteer
Volunteer for everything possible
Good for the community, Good to make contacts, good for your resume
