Pilots vs. Gaels One Team, One Family, One Goal

Goal: Our goal is to have 1,000 students and members of the community at the tailgate and 4,000 fans in Merlo Field.

Significance: The team was recently rated #42 in RPI, #27 in the NCAA Coach’s Poll, and #22 by Top Drawer Soccer.com.

They are in a good position to win the WCC title for the first time in 15 years and make the playoffs for the first time since 2009.

Groups involved: ASUP (Associated Students at the University of Portland), CPB (Campus Program Board), and the Athletics department.

Location/Time:The tailgate will be hosted on November 12 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. We will use the Chilies Center Plaza as the location for this event.

Marketing: The Director of Residence Life will send out an email to all the Hall Directors, informing them of the big

sports weekend (Basketball and Soccer). Create a Facebook event Create flyers and post them around campus

The Men’s Soccer team will be going door-to-door around the campus, encouraging students to come out and support the game.

We will encourage people to post on Social Media (UP’s Instagram, ASUP’s Instagram, etc.) Word to mouth communication

Event overviewThe tailgate will start at 5:00 p.m. and end at 7:00 p.m. There will be a beer garden for 21+ students and entertainment such as a DJ, yard games, and a face-painting station, located in the Chilies Center Plaza. This event will also be the host of the first ever dorm cook-off event.

Beer GardenThe beer garden will be run by Bon Appetit. They will be the sole provider of alcohol for the beer garden. Wristbands will be given at the entrance of the beer garden and be monitored by a Coast to Coast employee. No food will be provided inside the Beer Garden and no alcohol may come out of the Beer Garden. You must be 21+ to enter the Beer Garden.

EntertainmentThere will be a DJ at the event, playing from 5:00-7:00 p.m. He will be located in the Beer Garden and a stage and speakers will be set up beforehand.

Yard games Christie Hall and Mehling Hall have yard games that they will be bringing to the event.

Face painting station We will have a face painting station set up by Shipstad Hall. They will be providing purple paint and encouraging our fans to get excited for the game.

1st annual cook-off event This event will also be the host of the 1st annual cook-off event. We have 9 dorms that have agreed to be part of the event (Villa Maria, Mehling, Shipstad, Kenna, Christie, Schoenfeldt, Fields, Haggarty, Lund). Off-campus residents will also be setting up a tent and serving food. The food that each dorm will be cooking includes the following:

Villa Maria: Chips and Guacamole Mehling: Quesadillas Shipstad: Pigs in a blanketKenna: CrepesChristie: KebabsSchoenfeldt: Quesadillas Fields: Chili dogsHaggarty and Lund: Nachos Off-campus: Cheeseburgers

JudgesJudges have been selected to go around and judge each dorms food. The scorecard can be found below:
