SHE wafted across the skyClothed in its’ foam
Felt herself beginning to cryAs she was now home.
They told her home was whereher heart was
And in the sky her heart layShe only dreamt of the stars
She wished to fly away.Inside herself she was locked
Tried so hard to break freeBut all her attempts were
blockedBy her closest enemy.
Maybe if she stayed locked inShe could avoid every other pain
Maybe the only way to winWas in herself to remain.
But she was now suffocatingCouldn’t breath her own breath
She was left with a broken wingBut it was far better than death.
Finally outShe was scared insideThough without doubt
She wasn’t going to hide.Took her hands and covered her
eyesShe smiled and then shivered
with surpriseBreathed out and begun to feel
Begun to feel that all her dreams& wishes were real
Felt herself settle inShe was now living within!
Gravity let go of herHer wing had now healedHer body filled with glitter
She was now revealedRevealed as the star she had al-

And by everyone she was nowseen.
Her twinkle proved her delightAs well as her floating in the air

THE significance of Diwali willforever be a gloriouscelebration, serving to remindmankind that darkness is theabsence of light.
As this auspicious periodhas passed, the message ofDiwali will remain universaland sacrosanct for ages tocome.
As human beings, we needto eliminate those destructiveattributes that sow seeds ofanimosityandhatred.Diwali isall about that light thatweneedto light up our hearts. Thewarmth emitted from this lightmust bring solace and positiveenergy to anybody who comesin your presence. This flamemust transcend all barriersthat drive a wedge betweenpeople.
It must be devoid ofcompartmentalizingourthink-ing into race and religion. Thespirit of Diwali encompassesunity of all people, irrespectiveof race and religion.
The universal message thatpermeates all religions is thatwe are all sparks of the samedivine light, which is God theAlmighty.
The symbol of light mani-fests itself in the act of givingand sharing. In these difficulttimes of social and economicdeprivation, we need to shareand let our generosity shinethrough.Anyactofgoodwill, assimple as it may be, will resultin that light within our heartsburning brighter.

THE seriousness of the MsunduziMunicipality’s debt situation cannot beoveremphasised. At end of August, theoutstanding amount owed to Msunduzi
stood at R1,816 billion.Over the period June to August, the debt
increased by an alarming R238,2 million. Atthis rate, the debt will soon be over R2 billion.Msunduzi cannot afford to carry thisincreasing debt.Who owes the money?>> Government: R167 346 843 (9,2%)>> Residential: R1 007 792 246 (55,5%)>> Business: R473 977 841 (26,1%)>> Other: R139 093 562 (7,7%)
It is of concern that of the total, someR1,193 billion stands at 120 days plus. Themajority of this older debt can be viewed asdoubtful debt and will likely have to bewritten off. This is money that should beavailable for infrastructure upgrading, maintenance, housing and other needs.
Msunduzi must show greater determina-tion and urgency in collecting the money
owed. A good starting point will be withgovernment departments whose debt isviewed as “good” debt. Why are they notpaying? Business debt is also at unaccepta-ble levels. We await a list of the 20 business-es that owe the largest amounts. It is alsoincumbent on individual ratepayers to paytheir rates and utility accounts on time.

HERE are nine strategies on how to create that muchneeded space anywhere in your home:
1. Measure before you buyThinking of adding a new piece of furniture in the livingroom, kitchen or bedroom? Analyse and measure theavailable space, keeping good work flow in mind so asto avoid having to squeeze past anything.
2. Clear things outClear out the area where changes need to be made.Once you’ve sorted through your belongings, you’llmore than likely be left with items and furnishings thatneed a new home.
3. Analyse your needsFirst consider the function of a room. In the kitchen, for example, you have five basic zones allotted forstorage, cleaning/washing, preparation, cooking andserving. Do you really need everything that is in theroom or could you do with less?
4. Clear your surfacesClear surfaces make for a peaceful, visually largerspace. Remove any appliances you don’t use on a dailybasis - this will leave the area with a cleaner look.
5. Sort and declutterKeeping stuff you hardly ever use is a waste of space.Keep the items you use and get rid of the rest. Paredown. Decide what really works.
6. Maximise storage spaceConsider adding storage solutions like pullout shelves, baskets, drawers and shelf dividers to organise itemslogically. Use stackable, labelled and transparentcontainers as they are much neater than plastic bagsand boxes.
8. Assign a homeSave space by organising and zoning your cupboards.Everything should be close to where you use it. Utilisethe space between knee and shoulder height forproducts that need to be accessed regularly.Try to avoid stacking things as it makes access difficult.Nest serving bowls and platters with dish saversbetween them to prevent scratches and damage.Keep spices, herbs and condiments close to the stovein a spice rack.Store cutting boards and trays in vertical narrowshelves and use plate racks to save space and avoidlifting each stack when you need to get to anothersized plate.Use step organisers for tins and small items and store
Making the most ofyour living space
YOU can use paint colours to brighten up anyroom in a home.
Combining colours allows you to set theatmosphere and mood for a room.
A south-facing bedroom can feel cold anddull, but introduce the right colours and the roominstantly warms up and takes on a newpersonality.
If you love bold colours, you’ll know thatcontrasting colours can have a huge impact onany room. Choosing colours from the oppositeside of the colour wheel adds personality andwow factor to a plain room.
You can use paint colour to highlightarchitectural detail or features in a home, or toestablish a focal point in a room. Painting adetailed door with colour is a great way to addcolour without painting a wall.
Colours don’t need to be bold and bright toinject personality into a room. Muted colours
brighten a room and introduce just as muchpersonality as bold colours.
Combining colours allows you to set theatmosphere and mood for a room.
Even contrasting earth tones bring interestingcontrast to a room. An open doorway onto anentrance hall provides the perfect place tointroduce a splash of colour.
The choice of colour not only adds interest tothe entrance, but also adjoining rooms.
Take your colour cues from items or accesso-ries already in the space, or add a total contrastto highlight a feature wall.
It is always best to take colour swatches homewith you to view them in the rooms to be painted.
Use paint colour to add personality to anyroom in a home, or to create a focal point in aroom that lacks atmosphere.
You can use paint colours in so many ways toexpress your personal style. - www.proper-

contagious.FrompresidentYunusBhamjee to
CEO Tracy Elliott, enthusiasticsupport staff, players and coach, there is an air of anticipation that theprovince’s flagship team are going toretain the two of three availablenational trophies won last season -and maybe win the third too.
It is easy to forget that on the fieldnot too long ago, it appeared thatInland were a team going nowhereslowly. Yet the advent of fresh staff tocomplement the quality alreadythere, plustheinspiredacquisitionbyBhamjee of coach Grant Morgan - aman with an illustrious record thatincludestheIPLinIndia-plusthenewmentor’s shrewd signing of keyplayers to add to the homegrowntalent already there, changed theball
game.After languishing in the nether
regions of the three nationalcompetitions for years, Morganengineered a turnaround last seasonthat saw Inland win the ProvincialT20 Challenge title, as well as theProvincial50-OverChallengeagainstfar bigger, vastly better-financedprovinces of the order of Gauteng,Northerns and Western Province toname three.
Indeed, had it not been for a keydecision that inexplicably wentagainst Inland and an untimelyintervention of the weather gods, outstanding captain Shane Burger’sside might well have made a cleansweepoftheSunfoil3-DayCupandanunprecedented hat-trick of nationaltitles.
It is difficult to compare appleswithoranges, butminnowsofthepastKZN Inland are the most successfulsports team in the province by somedistance, yet very few people know
that.Character is the most important
facet of this band of brothers. LikeKitch Christie and Jake White of theSpringbok’s Rugby World Cup wins,Morgan -anastute judgeof characterand what makes a sportsman tick -innately knows how to weld a bunchof individuals into a potent collectiveforce.
The two rounds of Sunfoil 3-DayCup cricket matches this seasonprovide vivid examples of exactlythose traits.
In Kimberley, these hard-trainingInland lads were up against the wallagainst a rampant Griquas, yet theypulled the game out of the fire toregister a meritorious victory.
And at the PMB Oval just thisweekend, Inland faced the firingsquad against a powerful Free Stateoutfit and were able pull off anhonourable draw.
Long may Inland’s successcontinue.
