Forerunners in precision medicine*and holistic view in health• President Obama: “a new Precision Medicine Initiative will bring us closer

to curing diseases like cancer and diabetes — and to give all of us accessto the personalized information we need to keep ourselves and ourfamilies healthier,”

• Dr. Eric Topol: ”Deep personal data from an individual is a comprehensivepicture of health”

• Prof. Leroy Hood (the Institute of Systems biology, Seattle): ”Medicinegets up close and personal if personal health data is fed back toparticipants via life coaches”

*Precision medicine (PM) is a medical model that proposes the customization of healthcare—withmedical decisions, practices, and/or products being tailored to the individual patient. In this model, diagnostic testing is often employed for selecting appropriate and optimal therapies based on thecontext of a patient’s genetic content or other molecular or cellular analysis.

Page 16: Marita Perälä-Heape in the Oulu Smart City seminar on wed 6th May, 2015

• A new strategy for information and data management in health and social care inpreparation (MyData working group & Exploitation of personal data in future health caresystems)

• MyData in the negotitations of new Government program

• A radical health care reform on-going: the responsibility to organize care will be the task offive special responsibility areas (SOTE) instead of present system where municipalities sharethe task.

Political environment supports the use of personal dataand it’s openness In Finland
