I have chosen Ribadeo because I like it very much and because it is the town where my parents were born.

2.- Situation and population Ribadeo is in the north of Lugo, in front of

Asturias and it is next to the Cantabrian Sea. It is the capital of the “ Mariña Oriental”. Its population is seven thousand.

3.- History

The town was formed from a primitive nucleus of Porcillán and Cabanela. It had a wall with defensive character. Ribadeo received from the hands of Fernando III Charter Puebla. The county of Ribadeo definitively settled in the House of Alba.

The shield of the town has waves of sea on which are found a gold key and a silver star. The key symbolizes the entrance to Galicia and the star its northern situation.This is in the chapel of Virxe do Camiño in stone from 1699.

4.- Monuments

The "Torre de los Moreno“ (1905) is in the center of the town. It is the house of the brothers Moreno. It is a modern and neoclassical building.

6.- Economy

• The main economic sectors are trade and tourism. In the last years, Ribadeo is being very demanded for the acquisition of second home.

• Ribadeo is the commercial center of an extensive astur-galician area because it has an open shopping center and several commercial areas.

• It has a fishing port and a commercial port . Ribadeo is the most important port between Ferrol and Gijón.
