Competing with “Free” Internships• Our students are typically from lower socio-

economic groups and NEED the money• Students (and all others) are motivated by being

compensated for their efforts• Students have the “ah-haa” moment when they

see how they are compensated for what they know

• Employers’ expectations and students’ output and productivity are raised when compensation is involved

• “Free” internships continue to foster this country’s “caste system”
