Meet the 20015/16 Fountain Association Board

As this will be the last message to go into print until fall,I'll try to get everything in that needs to be there.

First of all, thanks again to everyone who has helpedout this season with suggestions, ideas and labor. Witha few new faces on the executive, and some seasonedveterans, I look forward to a productive time comeNovember.

There are a few events scheduled that are potentiallyconflicting. Due to the size of our park, sometimes thishappens; however, I believe things can be resolved, with a little compromise here and there. I believe I have

contacted most event co-ordinators. In any eventConnie Aagard will be working with me and everyoneelse to make sure things run as smoothly as possiblewhen things ramp up again in the fall.

It's been a hectic, but fun, five months. Thanks againfor your vote of confidence in re-electing me as yourassociation president, I will certainly try to live up toyour expectations.

Steve Knobbe, FE Association President

~Dear Residents~

It’s that time of year when seasonal rains tend to makethe weed problems in the park overwhelming. Pleaseremember that it is every resident’s responsibility toclean the weeds from their yard—including back, sideand front yards—as well as bushes and fallen fruit. Irealize that some residents may not be capable ofdoing this work on their own. Fortunately there arepeople in the park who will do the work for you for asmall fee, according to what is needed. The otheroption is that the park will have the work done by acompany of its choosing and pass the charges on tothe homeowners. Clean-up should be done immediatelyin order to keep the park looking good.

Another issue that needs to be addressed is the speedlimit. It is 10 MPH in the park. And stop signs arepresent for a reason. As residents, it is yourresponsibility to follow the speed limit, obey the stopsigns and to inform your guests and visitors that theyneed to do the same. We have had several nearcollisions lately. Remember, these traffic rules are foreveryone’s safety.

Please be a good pet parent. Clean up afer your petand do not allow your special four-legged friend inanyone’s yard but your own. Remember your pet

should never be left unattended.

As we transition into spring, there are several thingsthat I, as a manager, need to address. One of them ishaving everyone sign their new leases. And, as always,I welcome the opportunity to discuss with individualresidents any concerns they may have about our park.I look forward to your input for keeping Fountain East agreat place to live.

Vicki, Fountian East Manager

Words of Appreciation

A huge thank you to “the ladies”who helped make the memorialservice and luncheon toremember Lois Grover sospecial! (She would have been

back there helping you if she were here!) A special“shout out” to Lanny Barringer, Norma & JeromeLanning, Clara Hauck and Walt Devonshire for agreat service and for all the help in making Unit#291 look so spiffy. The people at Fountain Eastare truly family – and thanks for making us all feelso loved during the loss of Lois. After 18 winters inFE, we will miss “grandma’s house” and thisamazing park greatly!”

Dan, Terry, Kelsey & Tucker Lien

ÈTo everyone who prayed for me and sent Get Wellcards during my recent hospital stay, I thank all ofyou from the bottom of my heart. Your kindnessand caring was so appreciated by myself and byBill. It is always so nice to know you are near.

God Bless You All!

Judie Jackson #171

ÈTo the Food Bank Donors:

Just a few words to say a huge “thank you” tothose who help and donate food to the FountainEast Food Bank. You are helping several peoplehere in the park, me included. It’s easy to say thatwe can afford to live in such a nice park, butcircumstances really do come up that cause oneto be “up against it,” and food buying is one itemthat usually gets cut. When I get over this hump,I plan to become a regular helper and donor alongwith the rest of you.

Thanks again....

A Recipient

No one in this park is paid for his/her time and

efforts to bring enjoyment to the residents. From

organizing card games to chairing food and social

events, from procuring entertainment to managing

sports games, it takes many dedicated people to

make these events happen. They are the ladies who

fix the monthly luncheons; the men who prepare

pancakes. They are your friends and neighbors.

These people have all volunteered their time, and

without them, we would not have the activities we

do in this park. It is time to thank all those people

for what they do for us and remember that you,

too, can volunteer!

Suffices to say that we cannot name everyone

without the chance of forgetting someone, so all you

men and women who work out in front or behind the

scenes, the residents of Fountain East say “THANK

YOU!” and that we are truly grateful for all you do!

On February 21, 3 couples were fêted at a

Golden Anniversary celebration. From left

married on December 16 in Spokane, WA;

Grant & Betty Rodgers who were married on

April 19 in Belfast, Ireland; Dick and

Charlotte St. Denny who were married on

June 12 in Honolulu, HI. It was an evening

of surprises as Grant sang a favorite song

to Betty, and all the couples told of their

courtship and weddings.

February 26 saw 89 of our Canadian residents attending a dinner chaired by Barb

Downen. There was chicken, cole slaw, twice-baked potatoes, baked beans and ice cream

bars for dessert. Barb thanks everyone who helped in the preparation of the food. It

was a great evening!

It was the wearin’ of the green

on March 5 when Barb Bemisand her crew served up the

annual Beef Stew Supper. 134

attended the dinner. A raffle was also held. A

jacket was won by Joyce Sillerud. A quilt wall-

hanging was won by Jerry Browne, and the

Hardanger doily was won by Edward Vitez.

$235 was raised for Sunshine Acres. Barb

thanks all the wonderful helpers.

Peggy Jackson reports that about a dozen residents held Patio Sales on March 6/7. The sales were easy

to find with the maps created by Carolyn Taylor and handed out to park visitors at the gate. Most sellers

were very pleased with the results of their efforts while a few felt they could have done better. Crafters

enjoyed the eager shoppers. Some did better than others, but all felt the event was enjoyable and worth

the effort. Other facets besides the Craft Sales were also successful: the Bake sale, the Kitchen café,

and the Raffle. These were run by capable leaders working with generous volunteers. Money earned by

these groups goes to the Ladies’ Club charities.

Many thanks to all these and the dozens of others who helped prepare for, run, and clean up after all the

fun ended. Next November these events will return and YOU should decide how YOU can make it a success

again.

March 9 Bloodmobile: 8 people tried to donate; 6 were successful. They also had one who signed

up on-line. While the numbers were not what they had hoped, they are confident that this is just

a time when many people are unable to donate or too busy to donate. We are working on maybe setting the

visit for late afternoon/evening hours next year, seeing if we might snag some of those still working, not

retired yet, in addition to our regulars. United Blood Services was happy to come to our park again and looks

forward to a visit next year!

The ladies from Park Place hosted the March

11 Ladies’ Luncheon. The theme centered

around aprons. Attendees wore a special

apron, some telling the history of that apron.

Even the centerpieces “wore” aprons. The

Fountain East Ladies’ Club thanks Park Place

for all their hard work!

Green could be seen everywhere at the St. Patrick’s Dance on March 14! The biggest crowd ever (nearly

140!) danced to the music of the “Park Melodies.” In salute to St. Patrick’s day, the “Irish Troubadours”

(Crawford Drennan, Billie Joseph, Grant Rodgers) sang a medley of Irish tunes. It was a great evening, and

we thank Lois and Paul Sebesta for a wonderful dance season finale!

On March 18 the Fountain East bowlers had their wrap-up luncheon at Sourdough

Pizza. Awards were given and will be listed in the May Bubbles. Thanks to Aleta

Nybakke and Jerry Gemeinhardt for a fun season.

The year-end Shuffleboard Tournament was held on March 18 followed by a luncheon

and awards. In the “A” Event the winners were: 1st Place, Steve Knobbe; 2nd Place,

Charlie Paxton. In the “B” Event the winners were: 1st Place, Randy Kohler; 2nd Place,

Lorraine Hemstalk. Thank you Mel Verhulst for all your hard work and planning.

On March 19, about 105 residents gathered in the clubhouse to enjoy an

evening with The Arizona Territorial Brass. They sang along to old-time tunes;

learned about the early history of brass bands in the Golden West; enjoyed

both the instruments and vocalizations of the performance. The evening was

topped off with an ice cream social. Thanks to Carole Burrows and Dick

Baird for a great evening!

It was baked beans, potato salad, and hamburgers with all the fixings topped off with ice cream sandwiches

on March 21 as over 200 residents enjoyed the annual Big Grill BBQ. Thank you Steve and Helen Knobbe

for chairing the event, and thanks to an amazing crew.
