PROJECT BRIEF: ARTWORK PANELS: Design artwork panels suitable for application to public seating
and planter boxes for the Margaret River Main Street.
Art work themes:
The heritage, stories, history, innovators and unique natural features of Margaret River ;
Promote local Indigenous identity, culture and heritage;
Recognise and celebrate our natural, and agricultural environments; and
Reflect a family friendly place for all of us to live and others to visit.

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
Expressions of Interest (EOI) are called from artists interested in being considered for the design of
artworks panels to be applied to public seating and planter boxes for the Main Street
Expressions of Interest are to include the following:
1. A letter expressing interest in the particular project brief, confirming availability for the
timeframe of the project, and explaining collaboration with others – if appropriate;
2. Information about Applicant(s) including ABN and contact details;
3. Resume/Curriculum Vitae including Digital images, slides or printed images of previous
relevant public art commissions or projects plus information about the images; and.
4. Concept sketches or written responses for artwork panels for application to public seating
and planter boxes for the Margaret River Main Street
5. Art work panels for public seating and planter boxes must comply with the following
dimensions. Please note that art work will be applied to aluminium composite panels which
will be fixed to the sides of the seating and planter boxes.
Seat style 1: 450mm high x 600mm wide x 600mm long
Seat style 2: 450mm high x 600mm wide x 1.5 mm long
Planter style 1:500mm high x 600mm wide x 600mm long
Planter style 2: 500mm high x 600mm wide x 1500 mm long
Planter Style 3: 1180 mm high x 1380mm wide x 1380mm wide
Indigenous artists are encouraged to apply
Preliminary concept proposals for seating and planter box designs are required to be submitted
electronically to [email protected] by COB Tuesday July 17, 2018 and no fees will
be paid to artists for submissions.
A panel comprising Margret River Shire Officers and Art and Cultural Advisory Committee
members will shortlist up to ten artists for seating and planter box art works.
Shortlisted artists will be informed by Friday August 10, 2018.
SHORTLISTED ARTISTS
Short listed artists are required to submit artwork/ concepts for panels to be applied to the seating
and planter box range, electronically to [email protected] by Friday September 21,
2018. All artwork concepts will be uploaded onto the AMRS Main Street Website
https://yoursay.amrshire.wa.gov.au/margaret‐river‐main‐street‐development to allow the
community to vote on the concepts that best represent the themes of Margaret River’s cultural
identity, community values and sense of place.
All shortlisted artists will be required to present their concept/s in a submission to the selection
panel. (Date to be confirmed)

A concept proposal honorary of $500 will be paid to shortlisted artists to assist with the
development of concepts. No additional payments will be made for travel or accommodation
expenses. There will be three artist prizes of $500 for the art work panels: two the People's Choice
Awards (selected via online voting) and one Judge's Choice Award (selected by the selection panel).
ARTISTS COMMISSION
Five artists or artist teams will be selected to create artwork panels for seating and planter boxes by
Friday October 5, 2018.
SELECTION PROCESS
Selection Criteria Weighting Overall concept, creative approach and understanding of the brief 15 Ability to deliver the project – understanding of the budget and staging, materials and process, timelines, compliance, applicable standards and risk management issues for public art.

Artwork commissioning contracts will be entered into with the successful submitter/s for the design,
and installation of each artwork. Art works will be completed by Friday January 11, 2019 with final
installation to be co‐ordinated shortly after this date.
Concept Copyright
The Artist will retain the intellectual property and copyright of the concepts they have proposed
and finished artwork.
Project Acceptance, Ownership and Copyright
Council will accept and take ownership of the public art work once it has been installed.
The legal title and copyright of the work will be spelled out in the agreement between the artist
and Council.
The contract will provide licence for Council to use images of the artwork in any promotional
or educational material or other non‐commercial purposes, provided that the name of the artist,
title of the work and date is acknowledged.
Additionally, Council will require the artist not to reproduce the exact artwork for any other party.
