Our Mission & Vision
Our MISSION is to help people find and follow Jesus Christ, by
(VISION) connecting people with GOD through WORSHIP,
connecting people with the CHURCH through whole-life DISCIPLESHIP,
and connecting people with the WORLD through MISSION.
What is YOUR part of God’s vision for Christ UMC?
1. Connecting with GOD through WORSHIP
a. In daily life (“Practice the presence”; worshipful work)
b. In worship experiences
c. VISION PATH: Create a Worship Task Force3 that will…
i. Prayerfully assess our current worship services, styles, schedule, etc. and discern if modifications should be made
ii. Prayerfully create intergenerational worship experiences that help people connect with Christ in worship and in their daily lives
2. Connecting with the CHURCH through WHOLE-LIFE DISCIPLESHIP
a. Develop a “Door-to-core” discipleship plan
b. Intergenerational opportunities, including a possible Sunday school opening
c. Help people discover and use their spiritual gifts
d. Transform the Administrative Council into discipleship-based Leadership Team
e. Get people involved in Life (small) Groups
f. VISION PATH: Create a (Whole-Life) Discipleship Task Force3 that will…
i. Prayerfully create and implement a “door-to-core” discipleship plan that helps people (from the time they walk through the door) move along the life-long path of becoming mature disciples of Jesus Christ (the core of CUMC’s disciples)
ii. Prayerfully discern intergenerational ways (including life/small groups) for people to mentor and encourage one another on the path to whole-life discipleship
iii. Prayerfully discern how to transform the current leadership structure so it becomes a discipleship-focused leadership team
3. Connecting with the WORLD to fulfill our MISSION
a. Help people discern how God is calling them to connect with the world in front-line (real-world) ministries that help people find and follow Jesus Christ and transform the world.
b. VISION PATH: Create a Mission Task Force3 that will…
i. Prayerfully help people discern God’s calling on their lives and encourage and equip them to develop and serve in front-line (real-world) ministries
ii. Prayerfully help people discern God’s calling on their lives and encourage and equip them to develop and serve in front-line (real-world) ministries
iii. Prayerfully look for and encourage intergenerational ministries to purposefully mentor and make disciples (of Jesus Christ) of all ages
GOD & Christ UMC need YOU!
EVERYONE who is part of the Christ UMC family has a vital role in helping us live into God’s vision for us! Is God calling YOU to serve on one of the 3 task forces: Worship, Discipleship, or Mission?
They will be:
(1) short-term groups of people who have a pas-sion for the respective areas of ministry,
(2) will work with the related existing committees (Worship, Discipleship, and Outreach & Mis-sions) to prayerfully discern and draft the Vision Path (the goals and steps needed to help us live into God’s vision in the next 3-5 years), and
(3) present their proposed Vision Path to the Administrative Council for approval.
PLEASE CONTACT PASTOR ALICE if you are interested in serving on one of these task forces.

Behold what manner of love the Father has be-stowed on us, that we should be called children of God! ~1 John 3:1
I learned so much about “love”
when my son was born. One look at
his sweet face and my love for him had
no limits. My love was consistent, con-
stant, complete. I knew when he need-
ed my love to be encouragement, guid-
ance, or correction. I loved him even
when he was less than perfect. For-
giveness came easily. Patience, usu-
ally did, too. I was never too busy for
my son and his smallest concerns were not too insignifi-
cant.
I am both awed and humbled when I consider that the
Most High God intimately loves me far beyond the way I
love my son. He loves me in the same ways I love Blake,
yes! And He loves me far more! He is my Rock, my For-
tress, my Shepherd. He is my Friend, my Champion, my
Deliverer. He delights in me as His child. He lavishes His
love upon me, and guides me through every circumstance.
God’s love for me has no limits. His love is inexhausti-
ble! He loves me because He IS love, because he wants
to love me. And He is faithful to love me even when I’m
not faithful to Him. His compassion comforts me in the
midst of my hurts and weaknesses. His grace redeems
me from condemnation and showers me with blessings
though I don’t deserve them. His mercy chooses to forgive
my sin and make me a citizen of heaven. His truth guides
me and gives me wisdom and hope for all the days of my
life.
I am lost in wonder when I consider the immensity of
God’s love for me. His love is perfect. His love is gener-
ous and magnificent. How indescribable is God’s love for
each of us, His children! How can we not love Him in re-
turn?
Keep praying and praising,
Kristy Schooler
During March, as a church family, let’s concentrate our prayers. Each week, let’s agree to pray together for the following people and ministries:
Week 1 Church Family Unity
Week 2 Visioning Groups
Week 3 Music Ministry
Week 4 Leadership of Christ UMC
KRISTY SCHOOLER Prayer Ministry

DO YOU HAVE A PIECE
OF OUR HISTORY AT
HOME?
Some of the most fascinating
glimpses into our history are
provided by photographs.
Unlike some churches, Christ
Church simply doesn’t have very many photos of our past.
We hope some of you might be able to help fill this gap!
If you have photos of events held in this church or one of
our predecessor churches – even if you are uncertain
about the date or exact contents of the picture – we would
like to have a copy! Also, we are interested in any other
historical information/documents/artifacts you may have.
Our goal is to create a digital library of Christ UMC photos,
that would be available to all, probably with a link on our
website www.christum-baltimore.com.
If you have treasured photos or historical
documents that involve CUMC, and that you are
willing to share with others, please scan them and
CHOIR NEWS Its' hard to believe that our cantata "THEN CAME THE MORNING" is less than a month away. We encourage you to join us on Palm Sunday as we celebrate our Savior in song at the combined 10 a.m. service. It's great to have new voices join us as we sing classics by Bill Gaither. "Upon This Rock," "Broken and Spilled Out" and "I've Just Seen Jesus" are just a few of the classics that will warm your heart. May you be blessed as the music ministers to your soul on Sunday, March 20.
"And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world
.
If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God.
And so we know
and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in
them." I John 4:14-16 NIV
PRAISE SINGERS/MUSICIANS WANTED Hey folks! If you like contemporary worship songs and/or attend the 10:45 a.m. service, why not jump "All IN" and sing or play with us on Sunday mornings? You can sing/play once per month or as often as you like. The music is usually scheduled about a month in advance, so you can get the music ahead of time and practice at home if you wish. Mallory and Cara practice Sundays at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary and would LOVE to have more musicians join our merry band. :-) "Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day" Psalm 96: 1-2 (NIV)
JACK VAN DINE Missions
The annual Empty Bowls event will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. March 6 at the Baltimore VFW on Baltimore-Reynoldsburg Road. The proceeds will benefit four community groups, including the Baltimore Food Pantry and Good Neighbors in the Village. If you are unable to attend but wish to contribute to local groups that are working to end hunger in the Baltimore-Thurston area, put your contribution in the offering plate and mark it "Empty Bowls." Because the Thursday Open Gym has been wildly successful for both children and teens/adults, the
Administrative Council approved an expansion of the program to Tuesdays. Open Gym hours for both nights are from 5 to 7 p.m. for children through age 13 and from 7 to 9:30 p.m. for ages 14 and up. The participants always express their gratitude for this opportunity to play, and free-will donations help cover costs. Thank you to the congregation for making this outreach possible. As the new Chair of Missions and Outreach, I have a lot to learn, and welcome your input, concerns, and prayers. Jack Van Dine, 614-557-4652
Summer Camp Information Hey kids and teens, did you know that you can experience God & the glory of His creation at Church Camp?
Just before I started 4th grade, I had one of the best summer's of my life at Camp Pyoca in southern Indiana. When I entered college and needed a summer job, I was thrilled to get a position at Camp Wesley in Bellefontaine, Ohio. I wound up spending 4 fabulous summers there, sharing the love of Christ through singing, campfires, archery, canoe trips, arts & crafts,
and so much more. I'd like to encourage you to explore.
The closest camp to us is Camp Otterbein, just 32 miles away in Logan, Ohio. This year, they've added tree house camping, kayaking on the Hocking River, plus they have an awesome zip line, Blob on the Lake, and cool climbing wall. This 450-acre camp in the Hocking Hills is full of splendor where you can discover Christ's close presence in your life.
If rustic camping is not your style, Camp Widewater in NW Ohio (Liberty Center) has a carpeted, air-conditioned Lodge. This location offers an awesome family camp, from July 6-10 entitled "In God We Still Trust" featuring intergenerational worship.
Camp Wesley, located outside of Bellefontaine, has a 20-acre lake to explore amidst its 225-acre rolling forest. You can stay in rustic cabins, a modern yurt with air conditioning, or the main lodge overlooking the lake. Camp Wesley has swimming in both the lake and pool.
All three camps are hosting a 1-day-adventure on June 8, 9 or 10. If you'd like a glimpse of what happens at camp, come for the day! Students ages 6-13 can get a special tour, try out canoeing and archery, plus go swimming- all for just $20. Register online at www.westohiocamps.org. I encourage you to give Christian camping a try!
Several years ago, members of the Finance Committee began incorporating practices to make sure our procedures align with the West Ohio Conference’s “Local Church Audit Guide.” One such procedure is to make sure that all expenditures are approved and authorized. In response to that and in our desire to be proactive instead of reactive, the Finance Committee suggested and the Administrative Council approved the following
Expense Authorization Procedures: In our desire to be good stewards of God’s resources, all persons requesting a reimbursement from or an expenditure for Christ UMC must:
1. complete and sign the Expense Authorization Form (available in the church office),
2. have the designated authorizing person (listed below)verify that funds are available, approve the expenditure, and sign the form (or give approval via phone or email),
3. and then submit the form to the Christ UMC treasurer.

Wednesday Night Bible Study
The Wednesday Night Bible Study will focus on the "All In" concept from the book by Mark Batterson and
will be held until March 9th. Joe Farmer and Frank Anderson will begin another 4 week study entitled
"Rock, Shepherd, Friend" for another Wednesday Night study in March (date to be determined). This new
study is intended to "help Christians look at ways we envision and talk
about God". It will focus on "prayer and creeds in worship, biblical
language, the United Methodist Hymnal, and personal images of
God". Both studies are at 6:00 pm and held in the parlor room. All are
welcome to attend. No books are necessary to purchase for these
studies. Contact Frank Anderson at 740-862-9223 if you are interested.
JOE FARMER, ADMIN CHAIR Elmwood Property Update
The Trustees continue to work with the District Committee
on parsonage relocation evaluating the property that was
inherited by the church and our current parsonage.
Appraisals for both properties has been done. The
Elmwood Street property has been inspected by a local
company and some minor items were found that will need
to be corrected to bring the house up to parsonage
standards. These items would be done in conjunction
with the remodeling that is proposed to bring the house up
to standards. Currently the proposal from the Trustees is
being evaluated by the District Committee and our District
Superintendent. If you have questions about the process
going forward, please contact one of the Trustees or me
for more information. Further updates
will be communicated to the
congregation as they become
available.

"The CUMC Men's group has big plans for opportunities for our congregation and community to fellowship and celebrate the gifts God has given us.
In June, we will have an ice cream social to celebrate the beginning of summer and the harvest of local strawber-ries. We plan to have a second ice cream social in Au-gust to enjoy some great blue grass music.
In September we will be reviving an event our church has not held since 1999, the infamous Talent No Talent Show. This is has been a unique congregational time of

fun and fellowship. This opportunity to showcase our col-lective plethora of talents is well overdue.
Please stay tuned as details firm up around each of these local events.
The men's group meets for breakfast the first Sunday of each month. The coffee is ready at 7:00 a.m. with the meal served at 7:30 in the fellowship hall. All are wel-come. Please plan on coming and bring a friend.

The Empty Bowls Project is an international movement that began in the early 1990’s and has raised millions of dollars in donations to help hungry people. It was founded by several school teachers in Michigan whose students wanted to raise money to help the local people who were hungry. They decided to have a fundraiser dinner of soup and bread. The image of the empty bowl reminds us of the many people whose bowls are empty because they don’t have food.
In 2012 the Baltimore and Thurston communities had their first Empty Bowls Project. The goal was to raise money for two area charities: The Baltimore Food Pantry and the Liberty Township Community Chest. These local organization help to support individuals and families in need of food, rent, utility, clothing and prescription assistance. In 2016 two local agencies have been added: the lunch programs at Thurston UMC and Good Neighbors in the Village at Christ UMC.
Successful events such as this require the cooperation and contributions of many. The VFW is providing the facility. Baltimore and Thurston churches are serving a variety of homemade soups and cookies, crackers and beverages. We will make the Chicken Tortilla Soup again this year. Our youth group is helping in the dining area. Local businesses, churches and individuals are donating auction items. We will need 6 dozen homemade cookies and someone to help serve our soup from 4:30 to 5:30.
As we fill our bowls with soup, we are reminded of how blessed we are to have a hot meal everyday and our gratitude leads to giving. Monetary donations for this fundraising event can be made via the church by indicating that your gift is for “Empty Bowls” or can be mailed directly to The Empty Bowls Project, 105 North High Street, Baltimore, Ohio 43105.
For more information or to help with Empty Bowls, please see Louise Smith or call Darcy in the church office 740-862-4343.
One Great Hour of Sharing On March 6, the United Methodist Church will celebrate One Great Hour of Sharing. On this churchwide Special Sunday, United Methodists focus on the work of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). UMCOR responds to natural disasters and humanitarian crises around the globe.
Recently UMCOR responded to the situation in Flint, Michigan, where residents – including thousands of children – have been exposed to lead in their drinking water since April 2014. UMCOR provided a grant to support local United Methodist churches and other agencies to address the problem. This community, somewhat reluctant to trust government agencies, has welcomed The United Methodist Church.
On One Great Hour of Sharing Sunday, we share the goodness of life with people who hurt. One hundred percent of our designated gifts to UMCOR through The Advance and special appeals go directly toward relief efforts. Our One Great Hour of Sharing offering pays administrative expenses for UMCOR and supports ministries of food, shelter, health and peace. When we assist UMCOR with our offering, we are part of the important work that happens in places like Flint, Michigan.
