We are looking for members who would like to join
SPANISH FOR BEGINNERS. If we have enough interest we will start a class in one of the
many venues on the Northern Beaches later in the year.
Are you keen to learn about
ELEMENTARY BASIC MATHEMATICS?
We are planning to run a fortnightly course during Semester 2,
led by a Maths High School teacher, provided there is enough interest. No
textbooks required, just an open mind, some paper and a pencil.
Are you one of those people who 'gets lost in a brown paper bag' with
regards to direction-finding? Or do you have some experience in the sport of
ORIENTEERING which you would like to share?
If you're one (or more) of the latter and could set out some
simple courses (such as at Long Reef) for the former, we'd
love to hear from you. If there is enough interest we might
offer a new course on the subject.

Copy deadline for April Newsletter : 25 March 2020
Some of you have been puzzled by the new system of
clicking on a person’s name to send a response email.
This system which we now use takes up less precious
newsletter space, is efficient and delivers the result
we want. This is why email addresses are no longer
shown in full.
How does it work?
The addresses haven't been omitted; they are now
included as a link on the name of the person to whom
you should reply. You will note that the respondent's
name is in a different colour text (usually blue) and is
underlined which indicates a link. If you hover over
the respondent’s name the email address will show; if
you click on the link you will be taken to a new email
message with the respondent’s email address already
incorporated.
Please don't hesitate to test this by sending me an
email, Brenda Fuller.
The ‘click on a link’ also applies to other blue or
underlined words which will take you to further
information contained within a website page.
SYDNEY U3A Annual General Meeting
Wednesday 1 April at 10.30am at The Mitchell Theatre, Sydney Mechanic’s
School of Arts, 280 Pitt Street, Sydney
A reminder that the notice for this meeting was included with your course book. A good representation from the
Northern Beaches would be welcome.
Enjoy a good discussion?
Join our group at North Curl Curl
Community Centre (Page 53)
Alternate Mondays from 1.30-3.30
We discuss all manner of topical
issues in a warm and friendly
atmosphere.
The next meeting is
Monday 2 March.
All welcome.
Do you feel a little lost over the New Year period?
Fancy a trip on the high seas?
Whether you are a seasoned cruiser or a novice, why
not join a group of U3A members on a fun filled
cruise to Tasmania. Good food, entertainment and
the company of friends. No flights nor constant unpacking and packing.
The cruise leaves from and returns to Sydney. You could start your
holiday on the ferry to Circular Quay and join the ship at the
International Terminal.
We are sailing on 5 January 2021 for 6 nights.
Various packages are available for singles, couples, and cabin preferences.

Way to Wellbeing Expo Friday 21 February - Dee Why RSL
This exhibition was the brainchild of Northern Beaches Council and the Mayor, Councillor Michael Regan, opened proceedings with a short address. The keynote speaker was our President,
Rosemary McCulloch, with her presentation
“From the BBC to the Beaches”
Having lived in three separate countries during her life and having re-invented
herself four times with different careers, Rosemary spoke of the importance of
embracing – not fearing – change and the need to ‘have a go’ with new ideas.
There were information tables on many topics of possible interest to seniors, including health issues, walking groups,
transport offers and, of course, life-long learning opportunities from the U3A table (pictured here).
Active Seniors Dance Class (Page 52)
Advance Notice: Due to Easter there is no class on Good Friday (10th April) but we will be on the first Friday of April (3rd) then we re-start on 1st May.
Everyone welcome: come with a friend or on your own
Fridays in the Forest
Lionel Watts Community Centre (Page 49)
A reminder that Mayor Michael Regan will be our
speaker on Friday 27 March, 10.00-12.00. This is a
great opportunity for Northern Beaches U3A members and it would be good to have a large
audience. Don’t miss your chance to have your say!
VALE KEVIN HERBERT We are sorry to advise that Kevin Herbert passed away a few days ago. Kevin's passion was Richard 3rd and his historical knowledge was astounding. He was a great supporter of U3A and his contribution was vast - committee member, course leader, friend and support to anyone needing help. Kevin was an exceptional human being and will be dearly missed.
