Rich Thoughts from the Executive Director
Yahoo spring is in the air! What a wonderful time of the year when all that is old is new again.
The greens are returning, the buds are bursting, and the sweet smells of spring are everywhere.
Did you catch our Senior Fashion Show last month? The story aired on WNCT and was featured
on our Facebook page. Talk about what is old is new. Our seniors keep me young and inspire me
DAILY with their enthusiasm and excitement. In a world that at times is so ungrateful, our
seniors are examples of gratitude and humility.
There is so much happening here at the Council on Aging, it’s hard to keep track. Last February
2016 we had 133 programs scheduled here for seniors to choose from. Last month, February
2017, we had 180 programs which is a 35% increase in choices for our community! We have something for everyone, and if we
don’t, let us know and we’ll see what we can do.

the perfect place to use her talents as a volunteer at the Council on Aging. As a social
worker she spent years helping older adults stay in their homes. Today she works with
Sharon Elliott showing older adults how to overcome obsta-

asked what she likes about the position she said, “I get to

The Council on Aging is seeking City of Greenville home-owners age 55 and over, and Pitt County homeowners
age 60 and over who are at risk for falls, are fearful of falling, or who have fallen. Our goal is to facilitate suitable living environ-ments to enable adults to live safer and more independently in their current home. This would be accomplished through the provision of a home safety as-
sessment, falls prevention education, and recommen-dations/resources and/or assistance for safety equip-ment such as grab bars, hand rails, etc. Please call 252-752-1717 x 14 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
