It looks like it is time to update on all our ministry efforts down here again. I also think time has f lown and we don’t see m to get everythin g done that is on the agenda. However, in the w ay of ministry, we are plowing ahead trying to work in the areas that God puts before us. These last two months I have spent many hours connected with a church  in La Paz Centro. They have wel- comed our family and allowed us to simply be a part of the pro- gram they already have started. The church has a ministry of young men and women who dance for other churches and do special presentations when asked to. Sierra and Caleb have been invited to join w ith this group. So three or sometimes four times a week we head to La Paz and practice. We have also been able to start a feeding ministry in La P az with this same church. They are ve ry familiar with the families and people in the community and know which ones really seem to suffer more than others. We are working on feeding 15 families a week. (CONTINUED ON page 3) Since the last time I put down the daily doings over 60 days have  past. Many new f riends have been made and old frie ndships have  been rekindled. The beginning of February found me working with an advanced team from First Baptist Church in Conyers Ga. Their task was to  prepare for the Ronnie Hill Crusade that will take place in Leon June 19th   26th. We visited with many pastors and conducted video interviews. The most intriguing event was when they went to the main square in Leon and asked several people what they fear most. Their answe rs unanimously was that they f ear death. One person answered pointedly that he was afraid of dy ing and not having Jesus in his heart. He knew that w hen that happens he will spend eternity in Hell. This town in ripe for the harvest. I can hardly wait until June. From there I k issed my f amily goodbye and left for my Tour de East Coastfor four weeks. I left Managua it was 94 degrees at 9:00 am and arrived in Chicago at 8:00 pm and it was 12 degrees. I immediately examined my reason ing on planning this trip in February. My trip started with several days spent with Vanessa’s par ents and f amily. My trip covered 4600 miles w ith stops in O hio, Pennsy lvania, Virginia, Georgia, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and th en a return to Indi- ana. While the re I met with many pastors and leaders, I prese nted in many churches an d met with many frien ds. There are many stories I’d love to tell but I don’t want to ramble on so I will give a f ew highlights. On February 26th Kyle  joined me for the remaind er of my trip. We had a great time having Guy timeespecial ly in the 40of show still on the ground at the family farm in Pa. The trip was successful and productive, many miles were driven, cheeseburgers eaten, and friends visit ed, but it was time to return home on March 16th. The trip was goo d  but it was better to be w ith the rest of my family. As soon as I returned home we made plans to satisfy ` our Nicaraguan visa requirement by leaving the country for 48 hours. Since the nearest border is Costa Ric a we set our compass so uth east and traveled 4 hours to the borde r. There we we re indoctrinated into t he red tape of border crossings . After 3 hours and several fees paid we were allowed to con- tinue on our journey to Cana Castilla, a bed & Breakfastjust across to border.  ( Continued on page.2) Nicaraguan Touchstone  March / April 2010 Come, you ome, you who are ho are blessed by lessed by my Father: y Father: take your in- ake your in- heritance, the eritance, the Kingdom. ingdom. (CONTINUED FROM John page 1)

A place recommended to us by another missionary couple. While there we enjoyed the relaxation available anddid a lot of walking in the forest. We were able to see toucans, egrets, and several as yet unidentified birds. We also watched several families of monkeys that live in the trees next to our cabana. The highlight was seeinga 9 foot crocodile in the river that runs through the farm. Being 20 feet away from such an amazing creaturewas awesome. Reluctantly we had to return to Nicaragua to prepare for a team coming from Rogers Arkansas.

From March 20 — 27 brought 14 youth and leaders to work in the Leon area. We visited several areas

to do fiestas and street witnessing, and church in the evening. We visited some places that I never went to be-fore. Including an neighborhood called ―Sapote‖. In this barrio we found several things. The first we found a family with a preemie babythat weighed only 4 pounds. Her name is Milargo or Miracle. There is a story that is developing here and I will tell more of it later. The ond thing we found is an empty school, and on the property in the community well. German Alvarado and Mike Hulsey have come up wiplan to expand the water site and develop a school and church. All three of which are needed in the community, Clean water, education aLiving Water. The team had a great time and many expressed interest in a return trip.

With teams and travel behind me, I settled back into the routine of catching up on what I had missed while I was in the states. I vited the land the Hearts2God mission purchased in La Paz Centro. The land is to be developed into a cooperative farm as well as a feedingcenter and mission home. They have worked very hard in clearing and preparing the land for building and planting of crops. We will beworking with them on this endeavor and look forward to seeing it grow into what God has planned. Also while I was gone Sierra and Calstarted working with a dance group. It is with a church in La Paz Centro and they have been working very hard to learn the steps. I was fnally able to see them perform and to see what they have been doing while I was gone. I was impressed with their talent and how hard theare working to dance to songs in Spanish. It is great to be home and there is much to be done with our time here.

Update on Eliazer:Just briefly if you haven’t heard about this little miracle I will bring

you up to speed. Eliazer was 4 months when the doctor on a medicalteam found he had a closed fontanel. The family was encouraged tosee a local doctor but didn’t really have the means to do that. Sincewe are living here we offered to help them. So began the process of finding the right doctor at the right hospital to have surgery. As time

passed and many x-rays and tests were done we discovered he had a bigger problem than the closed fontanel. He also had hydrocephalus.

e water that was building up in his head was beginning to put pressure on his brain. There were visi-e signs that he brain was beginning to feel the affects of the pressure. We desperately wanted him to have surgery but the system down hetremely cautious and slow. It took another two months before the local children’s hospital decided to do the surgery. We did lots of prayi

d asking God to watch over Eliazer, praise the Lord, he has come out of the surgery much improved. They put a tube in his head runningwn through his stomach into a drain spot in his bladder. It has been 3 months since this journey began and God is very good. Eliazer hasmpletely healed from the surgery and his brain is beginning to repair itself. The outward visible signs of damage are starting to dissipate.nd if that wasn’t enough, in the last three weeks the mother of Eliazer and one of the aunts has started to attend church where we serve anth of them made decisions to accept Christ in their heart. Praise the Lord. To God be the Glory.

ew developmentse are very excited to be connecting with an organization called Heart 2 God & Hands 2 Work ministry. Their focus is on working with chmany different ways. We have been able to see them provide school supplies to over 40 children this year because of a sponsorship progr

ey run. We have watched them feed 140 children at their feeding center in La Paz again at this same church. We have watched God provind for them to begin building a much larger feeding center for La Paz and also to provide homes for some of the people who don’t have a hod is really working and blessing this ministry right now and we have in turn been blessed to be able to be a part of the program. Mrs. Rayhn Morgan have welcomed us and allowed us to be a part of the ministry. God is so good I just can’t seem to say that enough. He truly isl and providing for us in every way. Because of our connection with this ministry God has opened the door for us to start building a child

nter. It will be the kind of center where children can come for help with food, school, hygiene or anything else they need and still be able ay connected to their family at night. We continue to pray that God will provide the money needed to build this center because it will cost ,000(just an estimate) dollars to build. If you want to be a part of this new development by prayer or financially please write to us and let ow. The more people we have praying and helping with this the better it will go. We want to be patient and let God direct this program saying is very important. However, we also need to begin raising the money for build this center. There are already teachers and workers w

g to help at the center, now we just need the building. Instead of build it and they will come it is…. They have come now we need to buildease join us financially and prayerfully in this effort.

CONTINUED FROM Vanessa page 1)y heart has been touched by several children these last few months because of their outward appearance of malnutrition and starvation. Goally laid on my heart to help these families with food. We are working out a system so that as this ministry begins to grow we will be ableach more and more each week. We deliver the food on Friday morning and then I teach an English class to some of the members of the Laurch. It has been fun trying to figure out how to teach English to Spanish speaking people when I don’t even know much Spanish yet. Led Sara who are the pastor and pastora of the church have completely welcomed us into the church and helped us to feel involved and loveany of the young people at the church have asked if John and I will be their mother and father. So we are called mama Vanessa and Papa Jerra and Caleb, Kyle and Sydney received the privilege of being brothers and sisters to them as well. I could not have imagined a better plnster and serve God. He has blessed us so much by allowing us to connect with this church family in La Paz.

e have also been providing food and milk for a family that is struggling in a place called Sapote. Their third child was born less than a moo as a preemie. She is only 4 pounds now and her name is Milagro which in English means miracle. The provider of the home needs seedoney to start her business again because she lent some money to another family member and they have not paid her back. While the team re two weeks ago, God encouraged one of the ladies to provide the money and she listened. We have the privilege of bringing that moneymily this week. God is so good and He is in control of everything. We are just thankful that we can be a part of His ministry while we are

God be the Glory.

n a side note: If you are interested in helping with the feeding of these families, the cost to feed 15 families for a week is $45.00. We buy und bag of rice and beans (which is enough for the whole month) and then weekly we purchase fresh vegetables to go with the rice and beith the bulk purchase of food it seems to be cheaper. We spend 100.00 on rice/ beans and oil in bulk and weekly we spend an additional 2r all the vegetables to feed 15 families per week. The total cost for the month to feed 15 families is $180.00. If you want to contribute any

mount to this effort please write to us or ear mark it when you send the money to Voice of Hope so we know specifically how much money ming in for this particular situation. Thanks
