BIJOU BHUBANESWAR CLUB

am a devout followerof Khatti. In English,a commune is theclosest equivalent. Hygge,Logam, La Dolce Far Niente(the pleasure of doing nothing),Susegad, and Khatti are all life-changing beliefs, practises, and influences that come fromall around the world. I was recently speaking at a virtualgathering on Commune and Community, and I recallemphasising the need of leveraging the effect of Khatti and"responsible khatti" in order to improve ourselves and oureconomies. When they have an impact on our quality oflife, they become a way of life. Evening soiree on the lawnsof Bhubaneswar club with unbridled and yet innocuousintimacy is unparallel and is intoxicating enough to run likea mongoose, even on a weekday, from different corners ofthe country. I have done that many times and keepdoing.Club Khatti helps de-block our positive energies. Why dowe take oneself so seriously? Why do we block our free-flowing energies and welcome morbidities? We are'nothing' and tomorrow we would still be 'more' nothing.Seriously, Lighten Up!You are in Bhubaneswar Club KhattiCuttack khatti has swapped places, almost. Bhubaneswarclub khatti has the additional dosage of 'power tittle-tattle'and the sudden shock of volatile arrivistes. I haveencountered many who over decades have remained socialclimbers and are still climbing. That's the eclecticism ofBhubaneswar club - a bit old world, a bit contemporary anda lot in between. As a third-generation member of the aucourant institution, my feelings for the Club run deep.Bhubaneswar club is a premium commune becauseof its cohort or rather the intended cohort located at theheart of state management, literally. Mr J.L. Vaz, Raja Sahibof Khallikote, Justice LingarajPanigrahi, Mr C.M. Bennetand other patricians started off with an officer's club (readexclusive club) which has turned increasingly inclusiveand adaptive to the changing socio-economic paradigmsin seven decades. The recent metamorphosis of the Clubwith digitalisation is bracing up the premium network tothe quintessential ICTs - Information & Communication

I Technologies. The spirit is pristine while the functionsalter to altering times. This is incredible change to makethe commune sustainable - adapt to trends and yet thecore untouched.Bhubaneswar, I have always maintained, is the futureof India. All will flock to us. By 2030, I expect Odisha tocontribute 9-10% to the national GDP, by a conservativeestimate. Bijou commune like the Bhubaneswar club wouldcontribute to help enhance our stature in the country andthe Region. Clubs across states are networked and membersnow are unbelievably wired. Our Khatti will showcase ourstanding, our couth. Amidst the vortex of breakneck speedand volatility, Bhubaneswar Club and its slow life will bringus back to our senses. We need that little, romantic sanctuarywhich will allow us to breathe and enjoy the fruits of madrunning around.Bhubaneswar Club in the coming years couldincreasingly be the hub of "ideation' in Bhubaneswar.Currently a range of activities (sports, cultural, social mediaactivation) to further engage various age groups in the foldof the Club is ushering in a strong social bonding which willhopefully help rejig the growingly passive (nee indifferent)civil society. Younger, more educated professionals arelooking for 'progressively nurturing communes'. That iswhere I see the Club providing an enabling turf. Themagnetism of the old-world charm needs to be kept alive. With significant changes in the services and themanagement of the club operations, I believe therepositioning of the club with a set of values that says fasterisn't always better, is underway. Odisha Khatti is thepractice which exists since eons but has to be pulsating inthe Club and made its core element. The world is covetingfor it,while we are in abundance.A smoky single malt with the faithful dry prawn fry, inthe backdrop of the obtrusive glow signs in the breezylawn, hyperactive, with outdated, repetitive jokes and self-glory titbits,Bhubaneswar Club bring you back to life, hereand now.Theskyful of bons mots blow away stress.Clubbing - Unwinding, reflecting, de-stressing, sharing, participating, bonding and also networking, my club ismy soul playfield. Noble, aesthete and eclectic gentry isour Club's spirit. Let other Clubs talk about us.

Our Club has recently ushered in an era of digital transformationat the iconic venue, that carries a rich legacy in itself, almostsynonymous with the city of Bhubaneswar itself. The clubbing experience is best realized when interacting withservices the club has to offer – from staying to dining and intoevents. Every service transaction at the club now reflects atransformative vision. When the newly elected Committee tookover, we begun the practice of continued and detailed assessmentsof past practices and processes. As a result, numerous reformswere earmarked and are being carried out. Amongst the focusedareas for reform was the Club’s legacy IT system (ERP). With thevision to have a top-notch clubbing experience, the IT committeewas constituted for sharpening usage of Information Technologyto improve the overall experience at the Club.Another major decision by the Committee was to improve upon thelegacy and, build a layer on top of it where the club members wouldbe able to interact with the services. This was done by introducinga Mobile App and Web-Portal, which draw data from internal ERPand enable a fully digital experience for members. This way, theexisting system was retained while the new digital platformensured transparency and accuracy, thereby forcing the internalsystem to be more efficient. The ERP system of the club is alsogoing through a variety of major & minor corrections. The ITteam is continuously working towards enhancing the ERP bystitching business processes of restaurants, bars, events&banquetswith stores, inventory and most importantly, the HRMIS and Finance&Accounts. The club’s IT system has to keep pace with the rapidphysical and process transformation taking place. In 2022, nobusiness can be efficient unless backed by the force of an IT engine. The contract of the legacy ERP systems has been greatly improved toaccommodate changes to the system, with a strict adherence to amutually acceptable service level agreement with the service providerM/s Clubman Systems of Chennai. The absence of a standard operatingprocedurewas hampering the process of enhancement and bug fixes.Shri Nanu Pany, Member of the IT Committee, with his extensiveexperience of working in and with IT and developing organizationaltransformational models with his year of experience, has designeda process to ensure swift and timely corrections e.g. bugs, fixes, enhancements. These developments have provided a larger canvasto the Club Management in monitoring Club’s activities. The newly launched Club Mobile App is also receiving continuedfeedback and will be key in further improving the services at theClub. The more usage the app gets, the better will be the insights forimproving its user experience in the future.

INTEGRATION OFCLUB APP & ERP

A NOTE FROM THE

CHIEF EDITOR

Mail your views and comments to: [email protected]

A s the F.Y 2021-22 has come to an end andthe F.Y 2022-23 has begun, a sense of

satisfaction pervades in some while a sense offrustration overwhelms others. Targets have beenachieved by some while some others have failed toreach the target. For all those who feel disenchantedhaving eluded their targets/dreams, they shouldremember that success is not the absence offailures, but it is the capacity to bounce back. Infact there is no success without some failuresinitially. But those who succeed actually, do sobecause, they diagnose the causes for their failureand realize that their failure was a bend in theroad, not end of the road.

In this context let me recite the story which all of ushave read during our School days.

One day, the Hare and Tortoise decided to run a race. All of us know that the Tortoise which walks slow wonthe race while the Hare which runs very fast fell asleepon the way. The bottom line of the Story which wastaught to all of us in the School was“ SLOW ANDSTEADY WINS THE RACE”.

The story does not end there. The Hare which hadlost the race made a quick assessment of the causes of hisfailure. He realized that he had lost the race because hehad become over confident and had got bogged down bycomplacency. So the Hare invited the Tortoise for asecond race. This time, the Hare won the race and theTortoise was left far far behind. Now what is the bottom

line of the story? The bottom line is“SLOW AND STEADY ALWAYS MAYNOT HELP A PERSON TO WIN THERACE. ONE HAS TO BE FAST ANDFIRM TO WIN THE RACE”. The storydoes not end there.

The Tortoise made a SWOT analysis ofitself and realized that God has given

everyone some strengths and weaknesses. It is importantthat one converts THREATS into OPPORTUNITIES;converts STOPPING STONES into STEPPINGSTONES; converts CATERPILLARS of frustrationsinto PILLARS of success!!! So the Tortoise invited theHare for another race.

In the race between the Hare and the Tortoise for the3rd time, the Hare although ran very fast could notswim across the small rivulet to reach the destination. However, the Tortoise which reached the rivulet verylate could swim across and reach the destination to winthe race.

Dear Readers,

I recited the above story to bring home the pointthat each one of us is endowed with some strengthsand weaknesses. To win the race, we need notalways enter into a competition rather we can joinhands for cooperation to leverage each other’sstrengths. After the 3rd race, the Hare and theTortoise teamed up so that on the land surface, the Tortoise sat over the Hare’s back while on thewater bodies, the Hare sat on the back of theTortoise to swim across and thus they lived happilyever after. The story is a welcome reminder to allof us to accentuate our strengths, underplay ourweaknesses and team up for begetting success!!!
