Only Manitoba, Alberta and Quebec have lower drinking ages (18 years). The issue of possibly lowering Saskatchewan’s legal drinking age to 18 was considered by government as a result of a resolution passed in November at the Saskatchewan Party’s annual convention. “The decision to maintain the current legal drinking age is the right one and supported by police chiefs across the province,” Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police Executive Member Dale Larsen said. “We know that young people are already involved in a disproportionate amount of incidents involving alcohol so allowing young people to legally consume alcohol earlier would only make it worse.” Greatly Appreciated The Morin family would like to send their appreciation and thanks to everyone who donated to the Radio Pledge on Monday, March 4, 2013. A total of $340.00 was collected. A loving note can barely say all we felt that day. A heartfelt thanks is sent to you for your thoughts and prayers too. Morin Family

Brandon, Manitoba – Tip Top Tailors, in conjunction with the Brandon Wheat Kings have announced that veteran defenceman Eric Roy has been chosen the Western Hockey League club’s Player of the Month for February. A former first round bantam draft choice of the Wheat Kings, had six goals and eight points in twelve games last month and enters the final month of regular season play with fifteen goals and 35 points in 64 games. During the month of February, the Beauval Saskatchewan product scored two power play goals, one game winner and may have scored the Western Hockey League club’s goal of the year – an end to end rush – during last Sunday’s loss to the Broncos in Swift Current. A winner of this award in November, 2011, Roy finished among the league scoring leaders among blueliners in 2011-12. In 182 career WHL games with the Wheat Kings, the former Prince Albert AAA Midget Minto has scored 20 goals and 110 points. In recognition of the monthly honour, Eric will receive a shirt, tie and suit from Tip Top Tailors in the Shoppers Mall, the official menswear clothier of the Wheat Kings, during one of the team’s remaining home games. Roy joins Ryan Pulock, Corbin Boes, Alessio Bertaggia and rookie Jayce Hawryluk as this year's Tip Top monthly award winners. The Wheat Kings, who have lost five games in a row, will return home next weekend to play Edmonton and Swift Current on Friday and Saturday nights. Brandon is currently last in the WHL’s Eastern Conference with a record of 22-38-4-3, with eight games remaining in its 2012-13 season. The Wheat Kings will miss the playoffs this year, marking the first time since 2000 that Brandon has failed to qualify for the WHL playoff party. Tickets to all remaining home games are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at www.keystonecentre.com

MARCH PROCLAIMED RURAL
WOMEN’S MONTH IN
SASKATCHEWAN
The Government of Saskatchewan has
proclaimed the month of March as Rural
Women's Month in Saskatchewan.
“The contributions of Saskatchewan’s rural
women have played a vital role in placing our
province as a global leader in agriculture,”
Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart said. “I am
pleased to see more women getting involved
and taking leadership roles within the
agriculture industry. Women will be key
contributors to our industry’s continued
success as we prepare to meet the growing
global demand for food.”
Nearly one quarter of farm operators in
Saskatchewan are women. Rural Women’s
Month is a time to recognize these women and
the valuable contributions they make in their
communities and on their farms.
“Rural Women’s Month is an opportunity to
recognize the multiple roles that rural women
play that are key to maintaining our farms, our
families and our communities,” Social Services
Minister and Minister responsible for the Status
of Women June Draude said. “They are small
business owners, agrologists, health care
providers, teachers, caregivers, mentors and
community leaders ensuring that our province
continues to be the best place to live and work
and to raise a family.”
Rural Women's Month will be observed
through a variety of events held in March by
women's groups in communities across the
province. These activities will acknowledge the
positive contributions of rural women in
enhancing agricultural and rural development
in Saskatchewan.
