In addition to doing well as a team, individually, our team members collected accolades at Regional and State levels. Alisha Shah was named Most Effective Attorney by the opposing team in all four rounds in which her Defense Team competed in Regional and State, with Meghan Whittle and Leeam Stein also being named Most Effective Attorney by the opposing team once each for their Prosecution Team. Alisha was named Most Effective Attorney by the Scoring Judges once in Regional and once at State, and Ryan Perry was named Most Effective Attorney for his Prosecution role by the Scoring Judges at Regional. Taylor Howell was named Most Effective Witness by the opposing team in the First Round of the State Competition. Team members were Ryan Perry, Meghan Whittle, and Leeam Stein as the Prosecution attorneys, Alisha Shah, Jalon Daniels, and Caroline Moore as the Defense attorneys, Claudia Vasquez, Taylor Howell, and Hector Vasquez as the Prosecution witnesses, and Micaiah Daniels, Dylan Roland, and Jacob Kaufman as the Defense witnesses--with Hector Vasquez also testifying for the defense. All of them worked hard, and have been at Mock Trial practices every Tuesday and Thursday since school began late last August, in addition to the hours they spent learning the roles, the rules, and practicing together outside of the scheduled practices. The Lexington High School Mock Trial Team finished the 2015-2016 year with a rank of 8th place out of 47 teams in the State. In addition to doing well as a team, individually, our team members collected accolades at Regional and State levels. Alisha Shah was named Most Effective Attorney by the opposing team in all four rounds in which her Defense Team competed in Regional and State, with Meghan Whittle and Leeam Stein also being named Most Effective Attorney by the opposing team once each for their Prosecution Team. Attendance Office by Friday, April 22. Congratulations to the LHS Jazz Band

The LHS Jazz Band for their outstanding performance at the Northwestern High School Jazz Festival this past Saturday. In addition to performing, the band worked with clinicians from the Dallas-Denton, Texas area and attending a performance by the Metroplexity Big Band. Bella Bible (piano), Alex Ethridge (bari sax), Vernon Russell (trombone) and Celeste Wiest (tenor sax) were recognized by the clinicians for outstanding musicianship and Celeste Wiest was awarded outstanding soloist.

March is Disability Awareness Month

This week LHS will be celebrating Be a Fan Week with daily activities and announcements. The Be A Fan club supports the mission of Special Olympics and Project Unify, which provides opportunities to bring youth with and without intellectual disabilities together through education, recreational, and leisure activities to promote social inclusion and to create a school community of acceptance and respect. ** On Thursday, check your email to take the pledge on-line and tell your story at www.R-word.org ** On Friday, there will be an Ice Cream Social for students that Pledged to NOT use the R-Word.

Palmetto Health Richland – Junior Volunteer Program

* ages 14-17 (students 18 or older can participate in the regular volunteer program) * Tuesday, June 7 – Friday, July 29 * students who are highly motivated to get involved in the health care field * application deadline is April 15 * interviews the week of April 25 * mandatory orientation for the applicants on May 5 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. * see Mrs. Williams in E203 for questions and applications are in the black box outside of E203.

Carolina Wildlife Center Summer Opportunity

Junior Volunteer Program For 15-17 year olds

This is a wonderful opportunity for students who are interested in animal related fields such as wildlife biology, veterinary medicine, zoology, or any of the animal sciences. Come by the Counseling office in the scholarship

drawer to receive information and an application to be completed by the May 1 deadline.

Attention Wildcats! Do you want to represent LHS through dance for the 2016-17 school year?

Being on a performance/competitive dance team can transform your high school experience. LHS is looking for gifted, committed, and enthusiastic individuals with dance experience. The packets with policies, guidelines, and tryout information are available until Friday, April 8. Wildcat Dance Team Auditions will be held on April 11-13 at LHS in room C-108 from 3:45 – 5:45 p.m.

Attention Students: If you are interested in other cultures, love to eat exotic food and

have a fun, exciting classroom experience then Cultural Studies Honors is the class for

you! This class is a part of the Center for World Languages and International Business

here at LHS but also counts as an elective. It is not too late to sign up or change your

schedule to take this awesome class next year. If you have any questions see

Student Athletic Trainers

If you enjoy sports, working behind the scenes, enjoy helping others … this could be a good fit for you!

Students interested in becoming a Student Athletic Trainer at LHS for next school year need to sign up in the

Athletic Training Room for an interview with Coach Leaphart before Spring Break. The job involves assisting

the injured athletes at practices, games, and in the training room. This is a good opportunity for students

interested in a future medical career. Also, any male student interested in becoming a football manager needs

Junior Scholar programs are offered by these colleges/universities as a recruitment tool to encourage students to attend these institutions after high school. The benefits include: invitations to attend Scholar Days on these campuses, scholarship opportunities, and application fee waivers which will help save you money when applying during your senior year! Please note that the college/university sets the criteria to be named a scholar. You will need to complete a nomination form for these schools, which will be posted on the school’s website. Weekly Topics for discussion include: Self-esteem, Decision Making, Communication with Peers and others, Media Influence, Diseases and Myths, Responsibility and Accountability and so much more! This space will provide all LHS students a unique learning opportunity to build, create, play, do, collaborate, read, and "make" ideas to life. Lexington High will no longer allow after school detention to make up unexcused absences beginning this semester. SEARS will be the only option for

The Nathan M. Wolfe Law Enforcement Cadet Academy will be held at the South Carolina Criminal

Justice Academy, 5400 Broad River Road, Columbia, SC, June 18 – June 24, 2016. The cost per cadet will

be $175 and each cadet will pay a $25 registration fee to be sent with the application. Cadets must be

rising high school students of good character, age 15 to 18 who have not reached the age of 19 by June 1,

2015 who will return to their communities with a better understanding of our state's law enforcement

system. The program is educational as well as entertaining.
