March 2019 Newsletter
Dear Friends,
The building is not quite as full, and seems empty in Pastor Wandrey’s absence. His office is bare bones with only a few
visible traces of occupation these last six years. I think I would like the dust and memories to settle before any preparation
begins in there. Eventually will come the cleaning, painting, maybe some rearranging, new equipment, and so forth. We
know that transition time is healthy and valuable for all. It gives us the opportunity to unify, share our gifts with one
another, find strength within, and prepare for our new pastor. June will be here before you know it!
In the meantime, there are 16 services to prepare for, make our hearts ready for Lent, Holy Week and Easter, continue our
mission ministries, to pray and uplift one another, study God’s Word, and hold each other in care and love. We’ll grow,
stretch, and try our wings together over the next few months until our next Shepherd arrives. Rozanne Ryle sent a great
email back in Oct that expresses it all, “How blessed we are to be members of PLC. No matter what time of day, or for the
many different reasons we come through the doors of PLC, there is always the feeling of LOVE…FAMILY…HOME.” Well said
Rozanne, as are these inspirational lines for us to consider during this journey:
Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire,
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?
Be thankful when you don’t know something
For it gives you the opportunity to learn.
Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.
Be thankful for your limitations
Because they give you opportunities for improvement.
Be thankful for each new challenge
Because it will build your strength and character.
Be thankful for your mistakes
They will teach you valuable lessons.
Be thankful when you’re tired and weary
Because it means you’ve made a difference.
It is easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are
also thankful for the setbacks.
GRATITUDE can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles
and they can become your blessings.

Lent at Peace Lutheran Our Lenten season begins March 6 on Ash Wednesday. We’ll
gather at 6 pm for a nourishing soup supper, and move into Ash
Wednesday service led by Steve Hagler and Pastor Gail at 7 pm.
The Imposition of Ashes and Holy Communion will be offered.
On continuing Wednesdays throughout the Lenten season (March
13, 20, 27, Apr 3, 10), soup suppers will carry on, and we’ll take a moment to remember what this season means
to us by way of a devotional, scripture, and prayer. Using the scriptures for the coming Sunday, will not only
provide us with insight but also inspire good conversation together. Please join us each Wed!
Call Committee Corner By now you are probably tired of looking at the list of Call steps that have been accomplished so we are
moving on with updates! We are currently in an official time of transition between pastors. Many of you are
volunteering by using your gifts of organizing, teaching, preaching, and leading worship among other areas
that need attention – what a congregation!
CC Chairperson, Pastor Gail, made a special presentation at council on Feb 19, solidifying the final details so we
may move forward in the Call process with Pastor Jon Anderson. The council accepted unanimously, the
proposed Letter of Call, and a Congregational Meeting has been called for March 3. You were sent a letter
introducing the pastor, The Letter of Call, and a description of responsibilities and compensation to be voted
on by you at the meeting. We encourage ALL to be present. Let the CC or Council know if you have questions!
NOW: Congregational Meeting/vote to extend a Letter of Call; set start date; moving; Installation!
CC Members: Ken Birge, Chair Pr. Gail Gutterud, Lynn Affeldt, Ruth Clark, Secretary Connie Arthur, Kit Carey,
with Alternate, Molly Shofner
BIG NEWS! Thinking ahead! Our Rummage Sale this year will be held on Friday, April 12, and
Saturday, April 13! The Council accepted and voted on the recommendation that
proceeds from the sale support our Uganda Medical Mission Fund!
The Rummage Sale team will be meeting soon to discuss and organize the sale.
Begin your spring-cleaning early, but please hold on to your donations and bring
them to the church the week of the sale. Our Rummage Sales have made huge
impact on different ministries in the past. Donations ideas for the rummage sale are
small appliances, clothing for adults, children and infants, household items, furniture, books, tools, yard
furniture outdoor/indoor, athletic equipment, or big items like a 4-wheeler or a boat. We will be selling coffee,
water and cookies to the public. Advertising is always a big part of our rummage sale so spread the word! You
will receive more information as plans become finalized.

NEW: Craft workshops will be held on the fourth Fri of each month
from 9 am to noon at PLC. The crafts we make will be for this year’s
Christmas Bazaar in Dec. Look for a different display at the church
entrance each month with a sample craft and info. We just made
Kitchen Boas in Feb, a unique kitchen towel that you wear so it’s always
at the ready when you need it! All are welcome!

Dear Friends in Christ,
During the past couple of months your PLC Family Promise Team has shared with you some general program
information and a personal experience that hopefully sparked an interest in becoming part of the volunteer
team for future Peace FP hosting weeks. Please see the weeks listed below in the box!
The PLC Family Promise Team is inviting our congregation to a “Thank you Celebration” in the fellowship hall
after our April 7 service. Your past and continued support of this vital ministry serving our local community is
what makes Peace a congregation in mission for Christ. The Family Promise of North Idaho executive team will
be joining us, which will give you the opportunity to have any of your questions answered.
Volunteer training will begin immediately after fellowship on April 7th. A light lunch will be provided for all the
volunteers attending the training.
Blessings from Your Family Promise Team!
SING VIENNA Chorale Coeur d’Alene cordially invites you to immerse yourselves in
the music of Vienna this spring; our concerts SING VIENNA are
offerings of music conjuring up 19th century Vienna in all its
ambiance and glory.
The 70+ member Chorale is accompanied by piano, organ and
chamber orchestra as it presents Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s. Ave
Verum and Regina Coeli, Franz Schubert’s Mass No. 2 in G Major, a
group of Johannes Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes, selections from
Johann Strauss’ Die Fledermaus and – of course – a medley from
Rogers & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music. It’s a kaleidoscope of
musical riches performed for your enjoyment.
We feature BELLE COEUR, the women's ensemble of Chorale Coeur
d'Alene, in three selections on the concert program: The first, Ola
Gjeilo's Days of Beauty, is accompanied by a string quartet. Following
is Craig Courtney's transcription for women's voices of Franz
Schubert's An die music. And finally, Belle Coeur will sing a delightful
medley of Johann Strauss waltz tunes, capturing the joys of spring.
Coeur d’Alene concerts are Friday March 29, 2019 at 7:00 PM and
Saturday March 30, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church and
at St. John’s Cathedral in Spokane at 2:00 PM on Saturday April 6, 2019.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and active military, $10 for students, and are available at Trinity
Lutheran Church, Peace Lutheran Church, Northwest Music Center in Coeur d’Alene, ChoraleCdA.com, and from
any Chorale member. For more information please visit us at www.ChoraleCdA.com, call us at 208-446-2333, or
If you have a conflict with the Sunday you are assigned, please call someone else on the list and inform Lynn at the church office, 20-765-0727, so the correct name may be printed in the church bulletin. Thank you for serving! Marge Freligh, Ministry Servant Coordinator
