National Poison Prevention Week
March 19-25, 2017
Once a year in March, a spotlight is shown on
poison prevention. Raising awareness on poison
is not just for humans, but also for pets. Last year
alone, the ASPCA Poison Control Center
received more than 180,639 case related to pets
being poisoned by household items, insecticides,
chocolate, plants, rodenticides, over the counter
products and food. The number one poison was
human prescription medications.
It is important that you know what items around the house are a
danger to your pet. Keep medications on high shelves. Make sure
there are no fluids, such as automotive liquids or cleaning supplies
on floors or within reach.
Symptoms of poisoning: vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, blood in
stool, lethargy, loss of appetite, nosebleed, irregular heartbeat.
If you suspect your pet may have ingested something, you should
contact your local vet, or any of the numbers below.
