March 2017 Newsletter From the Principal Dear Central Park Families, How quickly the month of March is upon us. The longer days and added sunshine are a welcome change. We had a great turn out for conferences. Thank you for taking the time to connect with your child’s teacher. Fostering relationships between school and home are critical to student success. Congratulations to all of you who participated in the fundraiser “Pennies for Patients.” Thanks to our Student Council for heading up this event. I am so impressed with the care and compassion of the students and school community. It is such a privilege to be a part of the many great things happening at Central Park. As you make plans in advance for appointments and vacations please keep in mind that the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments will be taking place March 29-May 5 for all children in grades 3, 4, 5 and 6. It is very important that every child participate. All assessments are online so your child’s dates and time will vary. This is a great opportunity for students to show all of the learning they have been doing this year! We are excited for our students to demonstrate the fantastic growth we are seeing and we hope that you can encourage them to feel positive about this upcoming experience. There is much to celebrate as we approach the last trimester of this school year. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I appreciate your partnership. Eager for spring! From the GymJamie Lauinger, Physical Education Teacher

Right after spring break, we will spend a week reviewing playground expectationsand games the students can play at recess.  This is always a good reminder as wehead into the spring months and the weather starts to get warmer.

After the playground review, we will be starting our volleyball unit. The primary grades will usebeach balls to practice bumping and setting.  They will also be doing some games with thevolleyball nets such as Clean Out Your Backyard and Beach Ball Volleyball.  The intermediategrades will be using volleyball trainers to work on their skills.  The volleyball trainers look likeregular volleyballs, but they are softer and easier to hit.  At the end of the unit, the classes will beplaying volleyball games to practice their skills.
