Join us at 11:30 a.m. at our March 15 luncheon to learn about some fascinating
Waco history. Linda Howell and Mike Mallick of the Heart of Texas Storytellers
Guild will present Walking Tales with the
Papes. The Guild presents walking tales at
Oakwood Cemetery each year, where histor-
ic stories about renowned, legendary and
infamous Waco people are brought to life.
We will hear about one of the Papes, Nell
Pape, the benefactor of the beautiful garden
at the Earle-Harrison House, which was built
in 1858. The G. H. Pape Foundation main-
tains the house and gardens.
See the information below about how and
when to make your reservation. And bring a
friend with you to hear this interesting
presentation.

Anita Allen, who has presented musical programs for us with her hus-
band, Dale, has very serious health issues.
Golden Keys Parsons, who spoke to our group in September, was tragi-
cally killed in an I-35 automobile accident recently. We remember her
family in our thoughts and prayers.

her informed of any member who is ill, has had a family death or any
other concern for which it would be appropriate to mail a card from

Cares and Concerns
From the Prez —
Marsha Thauwald wore tie-dye as she rode a bicycle into Ridge-
wood Country Club, and that was just the beginning. She contin-
ued with a dynamic program and concluded with a group sing-
along of “What the World Needs Now Is Love” — with hand mo-
tions! Marsha was an absolute delight, and I hope you were part
of this fun! Mark your calendar now for March 15, because Mari-
lyn Patterson promises another great program.
Our nominating committee has presented a slate for leadership
roles in 2017-2018. See page three for details.
Sue Blackwell presented the board with a Baylor Club option for
our luncheon meetings. Although the Baylor Club is appealing for
many reasons, the current board opted to forego any such deci-
sion until our contract with Ridgewood is up for renewal in De-
cember. The 2017-2018 board will then consider this further,
along with other options.
The board is considering the feasibility and necessity of our club
purchasing a sound system. Marilyn Patterson is researching that
possibility.
Auction Time: The annual auction will be April 19, and many
changes are afoot this year. We hope each member will contrib-
ute ONE NEW/UNUSED item. we hope for some creativity (dinner
for 8, clean a garage, original artwork, organize a pantry, shop
and deliver, etc ). we hope each SIG will again contribute those
wonderful baskets. Read carefully the further description on page
five. Get ready to contribute and bid!
Membership has surpassed 200,
and YOU are making that happen!!

From Shirley Mulligan and Gwyn Dunham, Auction Co-Chairs
We are asking everyone to donate a NEW, UNUSUED, UNOPENED item for our April 19th auc-
tion. The dollar amount is up to each individual. We are also asking each SIG group to donate a
basket as they have done in the past. You can donate to the basket or bring an item also. We
would like to have as many items as possible. Because this money helps for our charity giving,
we would appreciate everyone participating.
Another suggestion is that “Creative Things” can be donated; examples might be services or goods like baking a cake,
cooking a meal or other services. These types of services are always among the most popular at other groups’ silent
auctions. Please bring your items one of our homes at either 9006 (Gwyn) or 9009 (Shirley) Darby Lane.
This is our last year to be auction chairpersons. If anyone would like to come help us to learn how we run the auction
and, of course, volunteer for next year, we would greatly appreciate it.
