This document is posted to help you gain knowledge. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think about it! Share it to your friends and learn new things together.
Well we started out March with a bang, had a house full at the meeting. We had a total of 64 Wingers at the
meeting. Had to move the meeting to the Casey Jones Theater to hold everyone. Those Chapters love to chase the
wood. We had Chapters Y, Z, G and W2 come for the wood. A total of 34 visitors with Chapter Y showing out with
20 visitors from their Chapter and they were the winning Chapter and took the Tennessee Traveling Plaque back
with them. Speaking of Chapter Y, Len from the Chapter brought a letter from the stolen horse that was taken
from us at the Winter Event. It basically said that our horse was missing us and we needed to come and get him at Chapter Y Fun Day. So, we will be traveling to Murfreesboro to get our homesick horse. By the time you read
this, we will have our horse back.
Chapter TN-N has a lot of things planned in the future, Dinner Rides, visiting Fun Days of other Chapters, visiting other Chapters and Spring Fling which is just around the corner. If you are not registered, time is run-
ning out, try and get this in before April 5th. This is the deadline for early registration. You can print a registra-
tion form off of the District Website. After Spring Fling, we have the Humboldt Strawberry Festival coming up and
have to get ready for. This will be our first time setting up there and will be raising money for St. Jude. We hope
to do well and make it an annual event.
We had a Dinner Ride Thursday night on the 14th and went to Hig’s Restaurant in Milan, Tn. We had 14 to
come out to Dinner. Everyone enjoyed getting together for some fellowship with Fun and Laughs. Two of our new-
est members came and joined in, Wes & Marlyn Youmans. I think they are here to stay! We just keep growing,
word is getting out to motorcyclist that we are having the time of our life and they want to come and join in on
the FUN. Along with Wes & Marlyn, we have James (Rosey) Rosenthal and now Rosey’s brother Henry (Bo) Rosen-
thal is interested and has inquired to join and we are glad to have them.
Everyone in Chapter TN-N is fired up and ready to ride, now that the weather has become a little warmer. I,
myself, uncovered my bike the other day and rode it to work in Camden, TN. It’s about an hour away. It was a
very nice evening drive, had to be at work at 7pm and I enjoyed the ride. Besides, diesel is pretty high right now
for the truck.
Sandy Hayes attended the Horizon’s Class and had a ball. Someone captured her on the floor again with their
camera and low and behold, the picture made it back to us before she did. If you have noticed in the other news-
letters, we have caught her in the floor laughing so hard she couldn’t get up. But, that’s the way we roll, FUN,
FUN, FUN!!! Now she is at the OCP class as I am writing this. I know she is going to come home full of knowledge
and about to bust at the seams. Also, if there is any FUN in it, she’s going. Just think, about a year or so ago, we
had to beg her to join, now you can’t go anywhere without her. That’s the way we like it!
So, check out our website, http://gwrra-tn-n.org, we have a lot of things coming up in the fu-
ture and going places. Any and everyone is invited, so come and have some FUN, FUN, FUN!!!
Until then,
Ride Safe, Ride Often, Have Fun
A Word from the
Directors
Tony & Lori Douglas
Happy Easter!!! Len, glad to hear the horse is missing us. Marshall Dillon says they still hang horse thieves.
Well, March is here and almost gone. The weather has not been very nice to us. Debbie and I did get to ride
one day. Rode about 50 miles in the north end of the county. Had some great scenery. Rode down by the Tennes-
see River and really had a wonderful time. So go ride, even if it is only for a short time.
We had a great turnout for our February meeting at the old Country Store. It is always great to get together
with all of our friends and family. This is what is great about being a member of GWRRA. When you join, your
family gets really big, and you have kinfolk in all of the 50 states and all over the country. Well, Jeff was at the meeting, and the horse thief showed up with what you might call a ransom note. It was
kinda like we will pay you if you will come and get your horse, hay is expensive. So the weekend of the 23rd,
some of Jeff’s friends, Eldon, Debbie, Nolan, Bill, Sandy, Billy and Shirley, went to Murfreesboro to rescue old
Trigger.
Not only did we bring back Trigger, we also brought back the wood again. Now we should have a few more
coming to our April meeting to see if they can win it back. Hope to see all of you there. Until next time, Ride a lot,
be Safe, and learn all you can.
Here is a thought to leave you with.
Ride A Lot, Be Safe, Have Fun, and learn all you can.
A Note from the
Assistant Directors
Eldon & Debbie Seaton
Debbie is bringing Trigger home. But the new costume MUST go!! Where’s that red bandana?
Bill Eldon and Debbie visit along the game corridor.
We still have important information to share after visitors leave for the night.

Thanks to Jim Cobb for the contribution this month. Article is taken from the District newsletter.
Here are excerpts from an e-mail that we just received from Harry Dollarhide, Director of Rider Course Develop-
ment.
Subject: Zippers - Rider Gear Change to the Rider Education Handbook.
This subject was raised when a GWRRA RCI initiated an inquiry (complaint) to the effect that we should not
be the clothing police. He was specifically addressing the zipper issue, so we also looked at the entire proper rid-
ing gear list. After receiving feedback on this subject from the RE & MIT community, coordinating with Director
Rider Education and GWRRA Director we have settled on the following change to the Rider Education Handbook,
page 61, paragraph H.1, Requirements Policy on all Rider Education Events, Proper Riding Attire:
Required attire for all Riders and Co-Riders participating in GWRRA range activities is in concert with indus-
try standards – DOT approved helmet, eye protection, long sleeved jacket/shirt (no "riding pull on/off
sleeves") , long legged sturdy pants, full fingered gloves and over the ankle footwear.
These requirements shall apply at any GWRRA-sponsored Rider Education or competitive riding event.
They do not apply to any "non-educational” or “non-competitive" riding activity, such as a Chapter ride,
parade, fun/poker run, etc.
GWRRA Rider Education should set minimum standards and only provide detailed guidance for specific
clothing/equipment as a recommendation in classroom discussion on Riding Gear. We recognize GWRRA Rider Education’s responsibility to present safety information to the members, however making specific items
(zippered) prohibited makes us the “clothing police” to many members. This causes a negative attitude towards
rider education and takes away from the positive message we try to present to the members.
We will incorporate detailed guidance for specific clothing/equipment as a recommendation into the Rider
Coach Instructor Guide’s for each specific riding course for RCI led discussion in the class-room. This will pre-
sent the safest recommendation to the members and let them (adults) determine to what extent they will incor-
porate this advice into their riding. This is the real world adult approach. There are multiple places in several
rider education publications that will need modification. The first change will occur in the Rider Education
Handbook. As you can see, this goes along with the recent e-mail on OCP being voluntary instead of mandatory.
Our leaders are listening to the members and putting programs in place to help them and put more fun back
into GWRRA and less regulation. I applaud them for their caring and leadership ability.
Enjoy the Ride!!!!

WOW, What a gathering March was. We had to move to the Casey Jones Train Museum to accommodate the
crowd. And we met in almost darkness. There was a lighting problem and all we had were a couple of small spot
lights at the front of the room. Thank goodness Jeff was on his best behavior. Can’t imagine him in total dark-
ness. Bet he would have some fun. Chapter Y took home the wood. After the gathering Chapter N went back to
the regular meeting place to prepare for Spring Fling. Watch out TN, Chapter N will be in Chattanooga in full
force. We are all looking forward to Spring Fling being in the Chattanooga area. It is such a beautiful area for riding.
The Cherohala Skyway is one of the most breath taking rides you will ever go on. A couple of years ago, Avery
and I rented a cabin in Tellico Plains and spent time on the Cherohala. We even went to Coker Creek. Didn’t
pan for gold but would like to some time. If you have time before or after Spring Fling, ride the Skyway and
make some of the side trips. I promise you will love it.
On a sad note: A member of our Chapter N Family lost a brother since the last newsletter. Chapter N is truly
like a family. When one hurts we all hurt. Several members went to Trenton to a Candlelight Vigil for Jeanette’s
brother. Our prayers are with Jeanette and David Bowens. We love you guys.
Happy Easter!!!
COUPLE OF THE YEAR

Avery & Diane Davis
Chapter Treasurer
Gattie, Teo, Preacher, Precious, Nancy, James, Bo Rosenthal (visitor), Jeff, Diane and Avery visit around the tables and discuss plans for the Spring Fling.
Chapter N regroups upstairs of Casey Jones after the visitors left. We had to finalize some of the plans for our FUN approach to Spring Fling!! We worked on some plans but we still have other things to get done. But we will be rolling into Chattanooga in BIG numbers. Teo, Diane, Avery, Reginald, Kim, Billy, Shirley and Don discuss Spring Fling.

Here we go again having all that fun!! We started March right for our monthly gathering on March 2—we had chapters visiting for the wood. Chap-ter Y brought 20 members and walked away with the plaque. Way to go Chapter N—another great attendance
with 30 members and one visitor: Eldon, Debbie, Nolan, Hayley, Jake, Sandy, Gerry, Thomina, Kathy, Bill,
James, Tony, Jeff, Teo, Gattie, Oliver and visitor Bo Rosenthal.
After the gathering, some of the members surprised our own Shannon Douglas and gave her our support at
her recent school pageant. Be sure to see the pictures. We had fun and she made for a very lovely contestant.
We think she should have won. Attending the event was Jeff, Shari, Tony, Reginald, Kim, Gattie, Oliver and
Teo. On March 14, we traveled for a dinner ride to Hig’s in Milan. We enjoyed the buffet which included, yes—
fish. Those attending included Tony, Sandy, Preacher, Precious, Wes, Marlyn, Nancy, Jeff, Shari, Thomina,
Gerry, Oliver, Gattie and Teo.
During the early part of the month, a leadership decision changed the OCP training from mandatory to volun-
tary. But I decided to go and learn all about the operations of GWRRA and the Chapter. I had a great time. I
may have gone to the training by myself but as Eldon stated in this month’s letter, I had a whole family attending
as well. The training was fabulous and I learned a lot about GWRRA and its operations. I am very glad I went. When you get a chance to do so, I would recommend everyone take time to attend.
A few of us braved that crazy” weather and attended Chapter Y’s Fun Day. And it was that. WOW! How did
we do that? We came back with the Tennessee Traveling Plaque. Thanks Bill. I am sure that because you
rode your motorcycle we had more miles than that next chapter. Attending was Billy, Shirley, Bill, Sandy,
Nolan, Debbie, and Eldon.
We have one more event this month and we will cover the story in next month’s newsletter. Our dinner ride to
Lambert’s will be March 30th. Come ride with us.

Best of the Best—Monthly Gathering Visitors
Looks like a police line up. Two people will be the lucky 50/25/25 winners.
We have a Jeff. And he is why we have so much fun. He encourages us to step out and enjoy out meetings. Mary Cobb gets into the act. Having FUN Mary?
Luck of the ticket draw. Participants race to blow up all the balloons. Chapter Y takes 1st and 2nd place. TN-N comes in third. But what fun. The balloons were really tiny.
Jeff makes Mikki work for her selected prize. With Jeff you are going to have fun.

Best of the Best—Monthly Gathering—All About Us
Jeanette. Nancy, James, Jeff, Bo, and Preacher.
Just good fellowship at our meetings. Everyone is ready for our meeting after all the others left for the night. We made plans for Spring Fling. But we can’t tell you what they were.
Bo Rosenthal is our special guest. He is in the back corner.
I think the story went like this. Janet thought she left the Deer Poop Award at home in the dresser. But Shirley knew she had lost it in Shirley’s driveway. It made for a great surprise on Janet. And yes, for the 3rd month in a row, Janet went home with the award. Janet, I don’t think I would share any stories next month.
Eldon and Tony call the lucky numbers.

Best of the Best—Chapter Y Fun Day
Chapter N attends Fun Day. Eldon, Debbie, Nolan, Sandy, Shirley, Billy, and Bill.
We think Bill’s hat was the winner. While he was on the way back to enter the contest, the winner was chosen. Nice hat Bill.
Friends are the best part of GWRRA. Rich-ard and Becky were having a great time.
We had to threaten an arrest warrant but we brought Trigger home.
A figment of your imagination. Bill does not have two heads.
Without Jeff someone had to give the hugs. And Max—I had the camera. District an-nounces Y as Tennessee Chap-ter of the Year.
A big thank you to the cook. Great food Mike.

Getting To Know You
Gold Wing Road Riders Association TN-N
Hello, my name is James Robertson. This is a great idea that will allow us to get to know more about each of
our members in Chapter N. So I will start with a little about my roots.
I was born in Brownsville, Tennessee and I grew up there. I still live in Brownsville today.
I work at BTC as a professional tourist and have worked there for the last seven years.
Over the years, I have owned a Kawasaki and four Gold Wings. I currently have a Gold Wing Trike.
I cannot pick out just one favorite trip I have taken since being a GWRRA member. Every trip up to now has
been my favorite.
I joined GWRRA in December 1989. And I have been a member of Chapter N since that date. I was one of
the charter participants for the Jackson Chapter N. One of my favorite offices I have held has been to be the St.
Jude Coordinator. I have also been a Couple of the Year.
I am not married but my partner of over 30 years and my co-rider is Nancy Utley. I have 2 children and one
wonderful grandson.
Some of my favorite hobbies other than riding motorcycles include, spending time with my family and with
my friends.
Again there is not just one favorite memory for me as a GWRRA member. I enjoy the fellowship and the
friends throughout the year.

All In The Family
Notes from the Youngest Gold Wingers
Just a small note from Hayley Seaton.
Hey everybody, looking forward to seeing all of you at the meeting. I have been busy this month, been to
special church meetings, been helping at Relay for Life. Going to Church on Sunday morning, Sunday night, and
Wednesday night.
I have been a cheerleader for 3 years, and this year, I decided not to continue because I need more time
for myself to do all the things I want to do. Now that I am driving, there is so much more to do.
Here are some thoughts to leave you with.
An even shorter note from Jacob Seaton.
You know I do not like to write but I do like posting pictures.
From Nolan’s notes. Well March is almost over, that means there is only two months of school left. I can hardly wait. Spring is
here and I have got the fever to ride the four wheeler. I have a couple of mud holes in the yard that I keep getting
stuck in. Peepa will come pull me out but he was sick last week when I got stuck and Meema made me get a
shovel and dig it out. She said that if I was goofy enough to keep getting stuck in the same whole—just dig it
out. Took about 3 days but I got it out.
Well I am going to go ahead and tell you that I will probably be getting the Deer Poop award this month. When
I went to the Chapter Y Fun Day, I had my arm band cut off. I threw it away and they called my number for the
$500.00 cash prize. Boy did I look like a
fool. Oh well, didn’t have it when I went,
didn’t have it when I left. Taught me a
lesson.
Half the fun of a FUN DAY is finally getting there.

News From Region N
We are sure you have thought often about your pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, and not just for St.
Patty’s Day. What on earth are we talking about? Well, how about a couple of hints? We have two pots of gold,
one in the form of a two-wheeler and one in the form of a three-wheeler. We sit upon our pots of gold…. You
guessed it! Our pots of gold are in the form of our Goldwings! Among our precious gems and coins are thousands
of jewels. Some might consider our “jewels” being our shinny safety chrome and safety lights. For us, our gems
are the thousands of members within GWRRA.
This is the time of the year we get very excited! Flowers are starting to bloom, trees are budding out, tempera-
tures are rising and the buzz we are hearing from our extended family are the making of preparations for the
convention season. Which, of course always means we will be in full ‘riding’ season before we know it!
In your preparations for the upcoming Conventions, did you remember to add a special invitation to your
Non-GWRRA friends and family to join you on the ride? Well? What are you waiting for? Get those invitations
out! Did you know if you recruit five new members your membership is free? Yes, we said free! GWRRA has a
Find A Friend program that could get your membership paid for you. Did we hear some of you are
‘uncomfortable’ with recruiting or not sure what to say? Let us help you! At each of the Conventions just look for
the Membership Enhancement Booth and help is just a “whisper” away! If that avenue just doesn’t seem to work
for you, then catch us at the Conventions and just introduce your Non-GWRRA friend or family member to us
and we will be happy to take your clue from there! What could be easier? So lets shine those ‘pots of gold’, get out our check list of everything we need to pack and get started today
getting in your registrations and getting your special invitations out for the upcoming Region N Conventions! We
will see you there!
On a special personal note, we want to thank all our many special extended family members for the emails,
phone calls, cards and prayers we received during Russ’ recent back surgery. Recovery is perfect and on target.
Just three weeks out of surgery his Doctor gave him the green light to ride! So….. all is well in our world, due
largely to our ex-tended GWRRA family! Thank-you!
Once again, it is our number one goal to be available and assist our members in any manner we can. So as
you are off and running with the many activities GWRRA has to offer, don’t forget to keep us abreast of what
your chapter and district has planned, and don’t hesitate to contact us if we may be of service to you.
And Remember….. If it ain’t FUN, don’t do it! Russ & Kj Kimmet

News From District
Richard & Becky Griffin
Hello Tennessee Wingers!
By the time you read this, your April issue of Wing World will probably be in your hands and you will notice
we are very visible in this issue. The Chattanooga Visitors Bureau has placed an ad welcoming the GWRRA to
Chattanooga, Southern Powersports has placed an ad for Spring Fling 2013 at Camp Jordan and an author,
Kevin Wimple, affiliated with the CVB, has written an article highlighting your trip to Spring Fling and all there is
to do in and around Chattanooga. I am very pleased with all of this and I hope it inspires all of our Tennessee
participants to get their registrations in early and come to East Ridge to join us. The members wanted a change
and this is your Convention. Now let’s all come and make this the best Spring Fling ever, and by the way, our
Vendor Coordinators, Ron Janes, Bill Archer and Jim Rambo are making sure there will be more Vendors than ever to make all your bling-bling dreams come true. And our own Marie McGill and Beverly Rambo are heading
up a special event for our ladies. And no, you guys are not invited even if you dress up like the ladies.
Another topic I would like to address this month is the Couple of the Year program. It is a common miscon-
ception that the Couple of the Year Program is a required position within the Chapters. We select a couple based
on their contribution to the Chapter for the previous year and it is an honor we bestow upon them. There is
nothing else required. I hear too often, “I can’t get anyone to take this position”. This is absolutely the wrong way
to go about it. Directors should appoint a selection team and identify the couple who has gone above and beyond
for the Chapter and then honor this couple with-out any further expectations. It is up to the Couple from that
point forward if they want to go further in the selection process. We do encourage them to do so because we
know it will be the time of their lives, just ask those that have been there and you will hear the same thing. So
this message is for the Chapter Directors and the prospective couples, don’t be apprehensive about the program
because you think it comes with a bunch of responsibilities, it is the exactly the opposite. I encourage the Direc-
tors to go on the GWRRA website and read the guidelines for this program and communicate this to your Chap-
ter so all the misconceptions can be put to rest. Another topic you have probably heard about by now is that the Officer Certification Program (OCP) is no
longer “Mandatory”. This decision was passed down to us by Jere Goodman, Director of GWRRA, and I think
this was the right one for the members. I, for one, think this training is still very important and I encourage all of
our Officers to attend this so that we all are on the same page and present a united front when presenting pro-
grams and policies to our members. This training can be done online and in the classroom, but after talking to
some that have taken it online, I believe they will tell you to go to class. You will be with a group to interact, have
instructors to answer your questions and will make lasting friendships. I encourage any member that would like
to know more about how our organization is run and why our programs are a success to come and learn, it will
benefit you in the future even if you are never an officer in the Chapter. Oh, by the way we will try to make it a
fun day as always. Just ask the folks that attended the recent Horizons Program. The participants had so much
fun and laughter they were rolling on the floor, right Sandy Hayes?. When you see her you will just have to ask.
But as the saying goes, “What happens at Horizons, Stays at Horizons”.
