Jiddu Krishnamurti (12 May 1895 – 17 February 1986) born in (colonial) India was truly larger than life, and by that I mean he lived life to te aching and writing ideals and spiritual philosophi es t hat transcended the or dinary person’s life. Prepared as a child by the Theosophical Society to be a World Teacher, Krishnamurti eventually denounced his role and disbanded the organization founded to honor him, more concerned with “the teachings” rather than “the teacher.” His dial ogues continued to e volve throughout his long li fe and yet the underlying mess age is timele ss and per haps even m ore re levant today : an u ncompromising faith in humanity that thinking clearly a nd independently can effect e nlightened consciousness and positive social c hange. To that end, he spoke passionately about many real world concerns: violence, self-illusion, environmental consciou snes s, education, love, organized religion, and poli tics, and espous ed m editation in particu lar as a path of liberation. “Life is not depe ndent upon politi cal or economic ac tivity ; l ife is not a me re outw ard show, any more than a tree is the leaf or the branch.” Was this rev iew he lpful to you?
