Parkhurst-ElderkinMeghan Parkhurst of Summerland and Brian Elderkin of Chilliwack joined hands in marriage on June 2, 2012. Among family and friends, the ceremony took place at Summerland Pentecostal Church. Photos were taken at the Summerland Research Station Gardens.

Harris-BryceVictoria (Vicki) Harris, of Summerland, daughter to Laura and Brian Harris, married Daniel Bryce of Abbotsford on July 14, 2012, at Daniel’s family cabin on Gabriola Island. It was a beautiful sunny day and the ceremony took place on a neighbour’s property overlooking the ocean. The reception was at the Bryce family cabin, a rustic, family barbecue-style dinner, live music, and dancing under the stars until late at night. Vicki and Dan now reside in Abbotsford.

MacDougall-DylewskiOn Aug. 25, 2012, with close family and friends attending, Devonne Elaine Ashley MacDougall and Tomas Tadeusz Dylewski were married. The wedding ceremony took place at St. John’s Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor Mike. An outdoor reception at the bride’s summer home included warm  temperatures, fine local catering and a starry evening for dancing away a perfect wedding night.

They plan to move from Edmonton to Vancouver in June.

NOW HERE’S SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER…If you had a will previous to getting married it may now be invalid. The existing law reads that unless your will specifically states that it is made in contemplation of marriage to the person you do marry, your will is deemed to be invalid upon any subsequent marriage. While many young people do not have wills previous to their getting married, many other people may be embarking on their second (or third, etc..) trip down the aisle and usually already have wills which distribute their estate to their existing families. Beware, these wills are no longer valid. Couples starting families should also consider making wills. Most couples create wills which leave everything to the survivor should anything happen to one of them and in case both are gone the estate is divided among their children. This can be set out in a will even before the children are born. In addition to this, couples with young families should appoint a guardian for their children in the will. Creating a will now, will allow you to concentrate on more important things once children come along.

Ohmenzetter-EmbreeOn Aug. 4, 2012, Jamie Ohmenzetter mar-ried Jason Embree on a beach in Summer-land.   Jamie, who grew up in Summerland, met Jason while working in Kelowna and the two soon fell for each other.   After spend-ing time honing their craft in Okanagan and Shuswap restaurants, Jamie returned to Sum-merland with Jason to purchase the cafe now known as Good Omens Coffee House.

Duncan-HowatsonFormer Summerland resident Rachael Duncan was married to Marc Howatson on June 9, 2012 at the beautiful Marrow Springs property in Kaleden. They now reside temporarily just outside Ottawa in Gatineau, Quebec. Marc currently plays volleyball with the Canadian national team and is pursuing a professional contract with a European team for next year. Rachael is currently furthering studies for counselling to supplement her undergraduate degree in psychology. The newlywed Howatsons look forward to life in Europe if all goes well.

Leworthy-BoninJim and Deb Leworthy of Summerland would like to announce the engagement of their daughter Jessica Dawn Leworthy to Clayton Everit Bonin, son of Jean and Doug Bonin of Castlegar. Jessica and Clayton plan to reside in the Okanagan in the near future. Their wed-ding will take place March 21, 2013 in Mayan Riveria, Mexico.

Houston-KovacsShaina Marie Houston, daughter of Bob and Suzanne Houston of Summerland, and Jay Kovacs, son of Kelly and Tibor Kovacs of Vulcan, Alberta, were joined in matrimony at the Summerland Alliance Church on Sept. 15, 2012. The two were married by Pastor Rick Gay in front of 130 friends and family. The couple are living in Okotoks, Alberta.

The bride wore a vintage doily dress, hand sewn by herself and was attended by three of her closest friends from Summerland, Catey Lewis, Shelby Wyatt, Carla Doell, and the groom’s sister Vanessa McNally, lead by flower girls Luna and Olivia. The groom, in charcoal grey was attended by his friends Justin Pouwhare and Jordan Treanor, his brother David McNally, and the bride’s brother Joel Raitt. When the newlyweds return to Canada in March they will reside in Summer-land with their 10-month-old daughter Luna.

Kielback-PowellKatie Kielback and Jordan Powell were mar-ried in Summerland Aug. 25, 2012 in a beauti-ful outdoor ceremony at the family orchard. They were joined by numerous family and friends from across Canada and enjoyed a fun filled day of celebration. The couple reside in Sylvan Lake Alberta with their Siberian husk-ies Eva and Rome.

Darren Hull Studios Hellinger-BradnerJane Hellinger and Dallas Bradner Jr. were happily married on Sept. 1, 2012.  Dallas and Jane grew up in the same neighbourhood and shared a school bus all through elementary and high school.  It wasn’t until several years after high school that they discovered their shared interests and fell in love.  Their wed-ding took place at the Hellinger Farm and was joyfully celebrated among family and friends.
