WDC-KJSCE organized Women’s Day celebration 2018 for two days March 07-08, 2018.

The Chief Guest: Mrs. Nayana Divekar: Police constable in Mumbai Railway who takes

responsibility of performing funerals of unclaimed bodies in railway accidents.

On March 08, 2017 Women’s Day Celebration 2017.

The program started with the lighting of lamp by respected Madam Principal Dr. Shubha

Pandit along with the Chief Guest, Mrs Nayana Divekar and WDC-KJSCE Convener,

Mrs. Jyoti Varavadekar. As per our Somaiya tradition it was followed by reciting the

Somaiya prayer.

It was followed by the special performance by the official college band “Octavium”

through songs on womanhood.

WDC Convener, Mrs. Jyoti Varavadekar welcomed all. She gave us insights on

Women’s day also explaining the theme, “She inspires us”. She introduced the chief

guest Mrs. Nayana Divekar who is a first woman constable in Mumbai Railway police to

take the responsibility of funerals of unclaimed bodies in railway accidents. Through

such a work Nayana madam has really contributed to society and inspired all not only as

a woman but as a great human!

Mrs. Nayana Divekar shared her experiences working as a lady police constable for

ensuring funerals of unclaimed dead bodies. She has handled very tough responsibilities

of doing this kind of work. While implementing such tasks she has faced very tough

situations. Her beautiful and inspiring speech got standing ovation from the audience.

Chief Guest was then given a token of appreciation by Principal Madam followed by her

motivational speech.

Ms. Devika Shaunbaug, was leading the winning team of

the Smart India Hackathon 2017, organized by the

Government of India

on a national-level. She has also been felicitated as the

“Highest Committed Student Branch Activist” at the CSI

Annual Convention 2017, and has been the Technical Head

at CSI-KJSCE 2016-17 and conducted various technical

events for the same. She has also received the Student of

the Year & Outstanding Girl Student Award, Somaiya

Vidyavihar's 59th Foundation Day in 2017.

Being an active and responsible citizen, she has been the

Volunteer and Leader at the U&I NGO and was

responsible for interacting with other volunteers and has

taught English to girl children at Maranatha Orphanage for

over 2 years.

2 Sanjana Dhulla

Ms. Sanjana Dhulla, apart from excelling in academics, is

also a part of Orion, the Formula Car Racing Team of K.J.

Somaiya College of Engineering. Not only that, she is the

first female driver of orion racing and has bagged 3rd place

in the acceleration event at formula bharat!

3 Kiran Jawahirani

Ms. Kiran Jawahirane, has secured a placement in Oracle, a

Campus Dream company, and has been felicitated at JP

Morgan last Women’s Day for her excellent academic

record. Apart from this, she also actively participates in

social work.

4 Rutvi Sheth

Ms. Rutvi Sheth, has worked as a Master Trainer with

Citizens Association for Child Rights or CACR, a non-

profit organization based in Mumbai. Its main focus is to

improve the overall quality of education in the Municipal

Corporation Schools of Mumbai, and aims to ensure that all

children receive free and quality education.

As a master, she taught the Municipal teachers of

TAGORE NAGAR MUNICIPAL SCHOOL (Vikhroli)

about Computer Literacy, knowledge that has now been

passed down to hundreds of students.

The program ended by vote of thanks by Jyoti madam. Tea and snacks were served to all.

On March 08, 2018 there was a photo booth arranged in the entrance of the

Bhaskaracharya building which was based on the theme “She Inspires Us”. Many

students, faculty and staff expressed their opinions about women empowerment and

theme.
