PRODUCT / MATERIALS ANNOUNCEMENT Polish Country Extension 2.0

The Polish country package 2.0 contains the newest Legal Requirement called  JPK (Jednolity Plik Kontrolny).

It is a Polish version of SAF-T (Standard Audit File for Taxation). The goal of implementing SAF-T is to improve and extend the tax and treasury audit process and to increase the effectiveness and better identification of key non-compliance areas in tax reporting. SAF-T brought significant benefits to tax authorities in countries where it was implemented.

It added a Polish Customer Statement of Account Report with additional texts and some fixes were done in the reports: Daybook Register Report and Tax Register Detail reportsThe User Guide is included in the package.

Ford North America MP&L Training includes Three QAD Assets 

I recently had the opportunity to attend Ford’s Material Planning & Logistics (MP&L) training at

their corporate offices in Dearborn, Michigan. During this two-day training, Ford covers all of their customer-specifics for delivery performance, which includes such things as packaging, labeling, supplier ASNs, premium freight and MMOG/LE. The three QAD assets shown are included as a part of Ford’s supplier training. Ford shares our risk management video and then distributes our supply chain risk white paper immediately following the video to the suppliers attending the class. Also, included in the Ford MP&L training handbook is a copy of our automotive process map.   

IATF 16949 formerly ISO TS/16949 is Now Available 

On October 3, 2016, IATF 16949:2016 was released globally. IATF 16949:2016 will supersede and replace the current ISO/TS 16949, which defines the requirements of a quality management system for organizations in the automotive industry.  

According to AIAG, over 66K+ global supplier sites (primarily Tier 1 and 2 suppliers) currently certified to the ISO/TS 16949 quality standard will need to transition to IATF 16949 by September 2018. Non-compliance could result in suspension of a supplier’s quality certification and limit their access to new business opportunities.

Michael Mallen (CEBOS), Jeff Phillips (CEBOS) and I recently completed the mapping of each of the 160 clauses/sub clauses in ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949 to CEBOS/QAD QMS functionality. This solution sheet is similar what was developed for MMOG/LE.

Chinese Delegation Visits Key Safety Systems (KSS)  

E-works, which is an online media, vertical portal, service and research organization focusing on the application of IT in Chinese Manufacturing, arranged a visit with 36 delegates the USA. This visit included a stop in Detroit to visit QAD customer, KSS. Bradley Hong who is the CIO of KSS shared how they leverage and integrate QAD with suppliers, MES and Lean.

Predrag Jakovljevic (“PJ”), Principal Analyst at Technology Evaluation Centers (TEC) recently defined QAD QMS as a top-notch quality management system. Global Light Vehicle Sales Outlook Through 2018 

I recently attended a LMC automotive outlook conference in Detroit. Shown on the right is LMC’s forecast for global vehicle sales through 2018. In the past few years, the industry has grown at a rate over 3 percent it won’t return to this pace until 2018. China will continue to be the major contributor to the growth in the global industry. The US and Europe are both projected to plateau. LMC analysts indicated that Brazil has reached the bottom and will slowly recover in the coming years.

 Heartware Medical Device Reporting (MDR) Project 

Each year, the FDA receives several hundred thousand medical device reports of suspected device-associated deaths, serious injuries and malfunctions. Medical Device Reporting (MDR) is one of the postmarket surveillance tools the FDA uses to monitor device performance, detect potential device-related safety issues, and contribute to benefit-risk assessments of these products.

When we speak to our medical device customers from around the world, we hear about the challenges they face and how they are addressing them. Some are concerned about their products becoming commoditized as the line blurs between highly-regulated and consumer devices. Many wonder how to differentiate their solutions among a wide range of competitive offerings from domestic and overseas competitors. Others know that surgeons expect companies to deliver holistic solutions that deliver tangible benefits, and that simple devices which meet single therapeutic needs may no longer suffice. 

Additive manufacturing can help address some of these challenges and promises to reshape the way device companies bring products to market. 3-D printing allows for rapid prototyping and optimized design of innovative new solutions. Such an approach helps insulate companies against competition and shortens product development lifecycles and time to market. 

Yet, despite the hype, the excitement about 3D printing isn’t universal, and a new day has not fully dawned on the industry. This recent article discusses four reasons why.

COMPETITIVE BITS C-Bit: SAP Announces New S/4 Cloud Division and S/4HANA Enhancements 

SAP has formed a dedicated S/4 cloud division, headed up by Darren Roos. Roos reports directly to Rob Enslin and Bernd Leukert, both of whom sit on the SAP Executive Board. It appears this new division, which is recruiting from competitors to fill some key roles, will own the job of rationalizing S/4HANA with other SAP offerings and to increase the rate of innovation. The quotes from Roos provide important insight about this restructure inside of SAP.

SAP also recently announced S/4HANA 1610, the third major release of its latest ERP business suite. Some of the highlights of the new release include: 

Predictive and machine learning capabilities to reduce exception management. Advanced available to promise (aATP) to better manage supply allocations. New inventory management features including a range of SAP Fiori apps to improve inventory visibility as

well as the ability to track slow-moving items, monitor shelf life and provide real-time status updates for in-transit items.

Embedded, extended warehouse management to simplify adoption of advanced warehousing capabilities.

The new version also “incorporates all features of the SAP S/4HANA Finance solution.” 

C-Bit: Microsoft Dynamics 365 Generally Available, Lists Upcoming Enhancements 

Microsoft has officially released Dynamics 365, and continues to position it against Salesforce citing a much lower cost with greater functionality. Microsoft has also published a website that lists past and upcoming feature for Dynamics 365.

C-Bit: Deadline Time for Oracle-NetSuite Deal

The standoff between Oracle, which has offered $109 per share for NetSuite, and key shareholder T. Rowe Price, which wants $133 per share, continues as the deal deadline is at hand, on Nov. 4, according to Reuters and CNBC. Neither Oracle or T. Rowe Price has budged since T. Rowe Price rejected Oracle’s latest offer. 

C-Bit: Oracle Closes NetSuite Acquisition Despite T. Rowe Price Challenge 

Oracle finalized its purchase of NetSuite for the original offered amount of $9.3B, despite a challenge from T. Rowe Price demanding a higher offer. Larry Ellison and Oracle successfully used the threat of walking away from the deal to secure a slight majority (53.21%)  of NetSuite shareholders. Given that Ellison is the largest shareholder of NetSuite, it was unlikely that NetSuite would have found a bidder willing to pay more. The deal should begin to impact Oracle’s offering mix and thus QAD’s competitive position against Oracle midway into 2017.

C-Bit: SAP Announces HANA 2

SAP launched its next iteration of HANA, dubbed HANA 2, its in-memory database. SAP aims HANA 2 at building its developer ecosystem and adding new application programming interfaces (APIs). This update to HANA is part of a twice a year update cycle. HANA 2 will include:

Database administration and management tools to secure and manage workloads. Improvements to enterprise modeling, integration, data quality and tiered storage.

New processing engines for analytics include text, spatial, graph and streaming data. The features are driven by algorithms for classification, association, time series and regression.

Development tools with new APIs, application server and languages.

HANA 2 will be available to customers at the end of November. Though SAP is trying to push HANA as a more general purpose database, it remains primarily tied to SAP applications and BI/analytics. In fact, it is the only database available for the newer S/4HANA applications – a clear form of software lock-in.

C-Bit: Koch Industries Buys Stake in Infor

Koch Industries, yes that Koch Industries, is paying $2.5 billion for a stake in Infor. The deal was confirmed November 16. Koch will get four seats on the Infor board while four others will be controlled by current investors Golden Gate Capital and Summit Partners with the final one held by Infor CEO Charles Phillips. Philips positioned this as a good counter to Oracle’s recent acquisition of NetSuite. Infor continues to be saddled by massive long term debt.

C-Bit: Oracle integrates Service Cloud with Oracle IoT Cloud

In Internet of Things news, Oracle is rolling out its Internet of Things Accelerator, a packaged, end to end integration between the Oracle's Service Cloud and its IoT Cloud. The new offering will provide Oracle customers, particularly in manufacturing or electronics, new ways to use the large amount of data collected from internet-connected devices to improve efficiency and customer service.

C-Bit: SAP Users Express Concerns about IoT Licensing

An SAP User group has raised concerns about the rapidly growing world of IoT and the impact it will have on their license agreements. The group highlighted the lack of clarity in their contracts when it comes to “indirect usage” which applies to IoT processing. For example, how does a customer get charged if a machine alerts SAP it needs maintenance? The risk is that this indirect usage could breach license terms resulting in fines, or it could result in much higher usage fees.

SAP has promised a large investment into IoT. As IoT develops, determining how IoT will impact licensing is an issue that SAP and other vendors will need to solve before customers incur unexpected costs.

WHY QAD Cloud: Freudenberg is in the process of transitioning their plants from QAD to SAP. The Brazil site needs to stay on QAD for the next 2.5 years and is currently running 2008 SE. Additionally, on premise 2008 SE support for Brazilian localizations will end for our On Premise customers by December of 2016. Support for 2008 SE and the Brazilian localizations is extended by moving to the Cloud.

The US and Brazilian teams presented the following three options to Freudenberg: upgrade to 2016 EE, move to the Cloud on 2008 SE to extend support of the localizations, or apply the localizations On Premise, on time and materials basis. The team sold the value of moving Brazil to the Cloud and the ability to support the localizations resulting in a 2 year deal.

YFAI (WiFi as they are often called) has global operations in North America, Europe and Asia. They are one of the fastest growing automotive suppliers in the world.

A year ago, Chris Theisen and Judy Schwarz had the vision that YFAI could go 100% to QAD Cloud EDI, replacing GXS (OpenText), a long standing partner of JCI's. Well, that vision has been realized.

THE COMPANY: Headquartered in St. Louis, MO, USA, Crane Merchandising Systems (CMS) is the leading global manufacturer of innovative solutions for vending machines, cashless systems, software and wireless communications.

WHY WE WON: Early in 2016 QAD received an RFP for software from CMS. After an initial review, it was determined that much of this content was pulled directly off the SAP website. That was our first clue that we were not winning. As part of our engagement process, Steve and a few others spent time at CMS understanding their requirements and the potential value QAD ERP could provide. It was an outstanding discovery that proved beneficial throughout the sales cycle.

Working together, it was decided that we needed to change the playing field. We needed CMS to "see" who they could be with QAD. We decided to combine the value work that Steve did with our 'Day in the Life' demonstration, thanks to the efforts of John Shimp, Etienne Ourvry, Shmuel Yaffa, Homero Rendon and Brett Baumeister. This was the turning point for CMS. In addition, Ed, Peio and Karl conducted an executive presentation that highlighted what truly differentiates QAD.

For many months we battled SAP and adapted to CMS' many requests. Louise Ploquin was very helpful as we worked through many issues. We built very strong relationships by showing them how QAD is a consultative partner.

Founded in 1883, as Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company, it was the first commercially successful producer of plate glass in the United States.

By 1900, known as the "Glass Trust", it included 10 plants, had a 65 percent share of the U.S. plate glass market, and had become the nation's second largest producer of paint. Today, known as PPG Industries, the company is a multibillion-dollar, Fortune 500 corporation with 150 manufacturing locations around the world. It now produces coatings, glass, fiberglass, and chemicals. PPG entered the aerospace industry in 2000 with the acquisition of Courtaulds Aerospace.The aerospace business has annual sales of approximately $US240 million, employs 1,200 people.

THE COMPETITION: SAP & Oracle

WHY WE WON: PPG Aerospace North America continues to grow by acquisition and recently acquired Cuming Microwave in Boston, MA. Cuming Microwave has a full line of microwave absorber, radar absorber, anechoic chamber and dielectric materials. The absorbers have been used in many demanding applications from suppression of unwanted resonances in electronic housings to radar cross section reduction on military platforms.PPG selected QAD EE over other ERP standards such as SAP and Oracle, to improve data quality, governance controls, and process automation efficiency by leveraging the PPG Aerospace QAD core shared service model to align business processes with PPG Corporate export compliance requirements. Additionally, QAD EE was selected to facilitate synergy between the PPG and Cuming Microwave IT business units, as well as improve operational efficiency.

Snell Advanced Media (SAM)

Project: Goes Live on QAD Enterprise Edition

Snell Advanced Media (SAM) is a world leader in broadcast and media technology provide a comprehensive range of solutions for Live TV production and the creation, management and distribution of content for TV everywhere. The company combines the talents and knowledge of Snell and Quantel who merged in 2015.

Headquartered in Newbury in the UK, and employing around 550 people worldwide, SAM is a truly international company with offices in 16 locations all around the globe and with revenue of more than $170m.

A previous Ring the Bell details the background in more detail, a failing AX project at Quantel, then opting to look at Snell's QAD solution instead. 

In July 2015, the newly combined group opted to move ahead with a deployment of QAD Enterprise Applications, upgrading the former Snell division and replacing AX in the former Quantel arm of the business.  

I am happy to report that as of November 1st the first phase of the project has successfully gone live with the former Snell arm of the company migrating from eB2 to QAD 2015 EE.

As a direct result of implementing EE, utilising new functionality & .NET UI browses, SAM were able to cut their existing customisations by 80%.

What's Next: Phase 2 of the project will see the former Quantel division moved onto EE to replace their partially implemented AX solution. This will enable SAM to take full advantage of EE financial functionality and a multi domained environment. They have also opted to investigate QAD's CSS functionality as a subsequent phase of the project.

MAUSER

Vertical: Industial

Project: Goes Live on QAD Enterprise Applications 2016 

Location: Brühl, Germany

Customer since: 1994

The MAUSER Group is a worldwide leading provider of industrial packaging. Founded in 1896 and with their headquarters in the German town of Bruehl near Cologne they develop, manufacture and market packaging solutions for many of the most renowned companies across a variety of industry sectors.

The portfolio of their manufactured products encompasses plastic packaging, steel and fibre drums as well as bulk containers. In addition MAUSER offers a reconditioning service via National Container Group NCG. The combination of newly manufactured packaging and our comprehensive recollection and recycling service is typical of MAUSER – and a driver for the success of MAUSER customers.

Last year around September Mauser had a list of over 50 issues logged and were deeply unhappy with QAD, and our product. Lynne Storer came to the rescue and agreed to personally manage Mauser's list of perceived issues with the QAD application. As it transpired half of the issues on the list were product related (and are now almost all closed) whilst the other half were enhancement requests.

After detailed review we established that a number of Mauser;s existing customisation's plus a number of the enhancement requests on the list were included as standard functionality in the 2016 version of QAD. After a

number of detailed discussions around their strategy moving forward Mauser opted to begin a QAD 2016 upgrade in February.

The project was led by Kontext-E, QAD's services partner in Germany and started at the end of March 2016 and was successfully completed at the end of October.

This was a technical upgrade from 2012.1 EE to 2016EE for their entire European operation (consisting of sites in Germany, Italy, France, Netherlands, Poland, UK, Russia and Turkey). The project was incredibly complex as it involved a huge number of moving parts including TMS, extensive customisations in Finance and D3 interface, I19 & bank drivers as well as personnel from QAD, Precision, Mauser and Kontext E.

One week before the proposed Go Live a major issue was discovered. This needed to be solved rapidly or the proposed Go Live date was in jeopardy. Lynne took ownership, kept the customer calm, reported and updated Mauser multiple times each each day and made them feel comfortable enough to go live without the issue being fixed but with the confidence that it will be resolved shortly thanks to great work by our R&D and Support teams.

What's Next: The 2016 upgrade is currently being rolled out to their US operations with an expected Go Live the week commencing 21st November 2016.

Everris

Everris (formerly known as Scotts Global Professional) is a business unit of ICL Specialty Fertilizers, part of ICL, one of the world's leading fertiliser and specialty chemical companies.

Everris (with it's HQ in the Netherlands) brings you the most technologically advanced fertilizers, nutritional programs, turf seed, growing media, and plant protection products available today, and is busy with working on those of tomorrow.

By helping growers produce better plants and create stronger, greener turf, Everris aims to maximize every customer's return on their investment. Everris also aims to maintain balance and respect with the natural environment it is inspired by.

ICL had a SAP Strategy but in September they announced that they had to write off $220M for their failed Harmonized (SAP) project. Everris has been a QAD customer since 1991, when they were part of Scotts and were still on an old SE release waiting to migrate to SAP; their migration project had already been delayed several times.

In May of this year Everris decided to move to a Single Business Model and contacted us for advice. This gave us the opportunity to position an upgrade to 2016 EE and moving to the Cloud.

After a discovery and a presentation of the proposed business solution we continued with a QScan and due diligence around the QAD Cloud model.

After extensive discussions and negotiation we received the signed paper work for a move to QAD Cloud and the Services support for phase 1 of the project.

What's Next: In 2017, Everris will start with phase 2 of the project (the roll-out to their overseas sites) and there is interest to extend their solution with AS and TMS. It is our objective to make Everris a case study for great ERP for other companies within the ICL group.

Laerdal

Vertical: Life Sciences

Project: Goes Live on QAD Cloud DSCP

Location: Stavanger, Norway

Customer since: 1992

Laerdal is a developer and manufacturer of life-saving and emergency response educational products. Product offerings include CPR manikins, self directed learning products, patient stimulators, and AHA materials.

Educational services are offered through their distributor networks that specialise in the pre-hospital, hospital, occupational health, education, industrial, law enforcement, and school markets.

Laerdal Medical A/S was founded in 1940 and is headquartered in Stavanger, Norway. The company is still family owned. The group has four key manufacturing locations - Stavanger, Norway; Tokyo, Japan; Texas, US; and Shanghai, China. The group supports their partners through a network of 26 sales and distribution offices in 22 countries worldwide. The company employs over 1400 people across the globe.

Laerdal Medical already runs its entire global operation on QAD Cloud ERP and is one of our best global reference sites. Earlier this year they also chose to replace their existing John Galt solution with QAD DSCP (in the Cloud).

After working with the QAD/DynaSys team over the last couple of months to develop their forecast models in the QAD DSCP solution I am happy to report that Laerdal Medical successfully went live on QAD Cloud DSCP last week.

What's Next: Laerdal will continue to bed the system in and ensure that their team are happy with the performance of the solution post Go Live. The QAD/DynaSys team will also deliver some additional training to the Laerdal team post Go Live to ensure they are gaining the maximum benefit from the solution. Stay tuned for further news!

Rondo Food

Vertical: F & B

Project: Cloud Conversion

Location: Krefeld, Germany

Customer since: 1995

RONDO Food is a contract manufacturer specialising in snack products for dogs and cats. The company has three state of the art modern production facilities at its disposal in Germany & Ireland. Their products are marketed under the brand names of leading retailers and other pet food providers.

RONDO markets its products in Europe, the USA, Australia and Asia. The company utilises its vast experience to develop the regional variations required for each specific consumer market.

The success of their approach is reflected in the company's growth. Since RONDO Food was founded, around 60 million Euros have been invested in its expansion at the three production facilities. The number of staff has grown

with the company: it began in Saxony-Anhalt with five members of staff and has grown to include 400 employees at the sites in Krefeld, Halle and Arklow; 180 members of staff now work in Krefeld alone.

RONDO implemented a long while ago but our the relationship was never straight forward. RONDO preferred to use local resource rather than pay for QAD services.

The company had no internal IT team and was instead using disparate external resources, one for hardware, another for QAD management, yet another for EDI and a fourth provider for their shop floor systems. This meant any decision effecting IT systems was taken by consensus or not taken at all.

Subsequent visions had all delivered recommendations from our highly experienced team that were either ignored or deemed 'too difficult' so the situation remained as it was - fairly chaotic!

The CEO of RONDO was particularly unhappy with their manufacturing and challenged QAD to deliver him a working production planning system by January 1st otherwise he would look at alternatives!

We commenced a paid Production Planning Workshop and very quickly discovered a plethora of issues, S&OP was non existent, MRP was not used correctly and the data quality in the system was extremely poor. Partway through the second day of the workshop we received a request from the CEO for a quote for a migration to the Cloud.

After a rapidly arranged reference visit to a nearby QAD Cloud customer, Wander AG, the last of the management teams Cloud bugbears were laid to rest. We received the signed paper work for a move to QAD Cloud and the Services support for the project.

What's Next: The project to migrate RONDO to QAD 2016 EE in the Cloud will begin almost immediately with Phase 1 to include the migration of the sites in Germany (Krefeld & Halle) to the cloud. This will be followed by Phase 2 which will see their Irish site (Arklow) migrate to the core model established at the German sites. RONDO have already agreed to look at additional functionality including DSCP and TMS.

Dynamatic

Dynamatic UK (formerly Sauer Danfoss UK) is a business unit of Dynamatic Technologies Limited, one of the world's leading manufacturers of hydraulic gear pumps.

The group has manufacturing facilities in India, the UK & Germany serving the automotive, industrial and aerospace sectors. The group is extremely acquisitive and has steadily added to its manufacturing footprint across Europe over the past two years. Over 650 employees service the group's customers & turnover has now exceeded $100 Million. 

Clients include Airbus, John Deere, Audi, BMW, VW, GKN, Lockheed Martin, Augusta Westland and CAT.

Dynamatic first implemented QAD in the late 90's whilst part of Sauer Danfoss. At the time they implemented the state of the art MFG/Pro 9.0 and that is where they stayed ever since. Sauer opted to divest the UK site to Dynamatic in 2007 and the existing license was transferred to the new owners at that time.

Since that point Dynamatic were not overly interested in spending additional resources on their systems, they used third party consultants rather than QAD Services as the QAD option was viewed as being too expensive. They also opted not to participate in our customer engagement process as a result of IT's reluctance to allow any access to the business coupled with a succession of challenging years for the company.

This all changed with a new approach to bypass the IT roadblock and start talking to the senior managers within the business. Our account team delivered a comprehensive business case which outlined a number of options for Dynamatic moving forward (as staying on their heavily customised MFG/Pro 9.0 solution was no longer an option).

After discussions with the QAD team they opted to migrate to the latest version of SE in the Cloud as a means of getting them to a more modern version of the QAD solution & reducing their customisation footprint. The follow on plan is to then migrate to EE once their solution is stable & as close to vanilla as they can possibly get it.

After extensive discussion & negotiation we received the signed paper work for a move to QAD Cloud and the Services support for the project.

What's Next: Dynamatic are keen to begin the migration to the cloud ASAP. It is our objective to make Dynamatic a case study for moving to Cloud ERP for our other smaller clients on older versions of the QAD solution.

Arco Group

Vertical: F & B

Project: New order

Location: Madrid, Spain

Customer since: 2016

Arco Group is a Spanish investment company that is primarily active in the F&B sector, with a specific focus on the Spanish wine sector.

The main activity of the group is to significantly invest in their selected companies with the primary goal of internationalizing their business and creating value for Arco's shareholders in the longer term. Eventually, Arco will consider divesting its subsidiaries in the longer term (usually after 10 years).

Arco had been looking for a modern ERP solution for a number of its wineries in an effort to modernise their production, improve efficiencies and drive additional value to Arco in the long term. The majority of Spanish wineries are using a host of manual systems with little or no automation or computerisation.

This deal came via our Spanish sales agent CTI who uncovered the opportunity late in the day! Arco were using a very old version of Microsoft Dynamics AX for their core financials and they were about to migrate to a new offering from UNIT4. The day before they were due to sign contracts they agreed to meet QAD and take a look at our specific winery offering.

The team presented a complete overview of QAD, what makes us different from other ERP vendors, our customer engagement program and critically our winery add on from our partner in Chile, ITC, who are experts in winery ERP. After this initial meeting Arco decided to postpone their decision until they had seen a detailed demonstration of QAD applications.

The rest they say is history and after the detailed overview of our offering including the ITC winery front end, Arco opted to deploy the QAD solution.

What's Next: The Spanish team is keen to establish our winery offering in the market and want to establish the Arco wineries as great reference examples of QAD in this specialist niche market, hopefully leading to additional winery customers.
