Impossible!
Hey mom, they justsaid on TVthat somerhinos gotkilled bypoachers. Yes, I read
about it in thenewspaper. It’s
very sad.
But that can’t betrue, becauserhinos can’t bekillable. They’re
way too big!
Unfortunately, rhinos can diejust like any other animal.
The poachers are people whohunt animals illegally.
But whykill them?
Well, hunters andpoachers target rhinosbecause of their horns. But they have no idea
about thedamage they do when
killing rhinos.
Because of theimportance of all
animals to nature?Yes, but also because rhinoswill become extinct if they’re
continued to be killed.
That’scool.
That’s right. Thehunters and
poachers are badpeople, but luckily
we have parkrangers whose jobit is to protect the
wildlife andcombat
the hunters.
I’m writingan essay onthis for my
schoolproject.
That sounds good. We’ll go tothe library tomorrow
for research.
Imagine how awful it will be to only see picturesand hear stories of these huge, beautiful animals, but not be able to see them for yourself because
they’re extinct.
Just like dinosaurs. And those dodo birds.
MELUSI AND MILOThe importance of RhinosMelusi and his dog Milo (SANParksunofficial envoys of conservation andbiodiversity) are always keen to teachabout the importance of nature.
Melusi discovers the existance ofpoachers and the dangers that leadto animals being extinct.
