What will I need?
Reminders:
Full Name, Social Security Number, Mailing Address, and Appropriate E-mail
GPA and Test Scores- You will report these stats unofficially on the application AND officially through your transcript and score reports
Use your full name as it appears on your SF Transcript
If applying through Common App, you must use your Naviance e-mail
Write down all usernames and passwords

The Application
When should I apply?
Now-November (before Thanksgiving)- Take note of each college’s specific deadlines
Many college specific applications will not become available until September 1
Some college specific applications became available over the summer (check college websites)
Students are welcome to work on applications in the Future Planning Center during Study Halls- Must get a pass from Mrs. Iannetta ahead of time.

What is on your transcript?
Get Parental Release form signed and return to Grade 12 Office
Add colleges for which you have submitted applications to the“Colleges I’m Applying To” section in Naviance
Check box to request transcripts for each school
All high school classes- You must notify colleges of any
senior year schedule changes.
Final grades for all classes 9-11. Senior year marking period grades will be shown at the end of each marking period
Cumulative GPA (updated each marking period)
After transcript requests are submitted in Naviance, your counselors will submit your transcripts to your colleges. PLEASE NOTE: This can take up to 10 SCHOOL DAYS
NOT on Transcript: Test Scores, Community Service, Clubs/Activities, Athletics
Test ScoresHow do I submit them?Test scores are NOT listed on your transcript- You must send them through the testing site
You will have to pay a fee after testing: ACT-$13 SAT-$12
Can send scores to up to 4 schools for free when you register

Letters ofRecommendation
Most schools will require 1-2 letters of recommendation. Some schools will not want letters of recommendation (Ex: Penn State does not look at letters of recommendation)
Check each college’s website to see how many letters of recommendation are required
Look at each college’s admission requirements to see how many letters of recommendation you should send
Letters of recommendation are requested under the “Colleges I’m Applying To” section of Naviance
How many do I need?
How do I request them?Ask your teachers in person before putting requests in Naviance
Teachers do not need specific forms for letters of recommendations
The Essay
Essay prompts will be provided by individual schools or the common app
Some colleges do not require essays or writing samples. If it says “optional” you should submit anyway.
Share a draft of your paper with your English teacher
Look for tips in your “Writing the College Essay” in the Post-Secondary Planning Guide (on website)
Essays should be sent with your application to the college- they are not sent through Naviance
What do I need to know?
The Interview
If an interview is optional, you are highly encouraged to do one
Not all colleges require or offer interviews (most do not)

Do a mock interview with your College & Career Advisor
How do I prepare?

1. Bring your signed Parent Release of Records form to the FPC or Office. We CANNOT send anything to your colleges without this signed.
3. Request Transcripts and Recommendations in Naviance
4. Send test scores through CollegeBoard.org or ACT.org
5. Review college website for additional application requirements (ex: interview, audition, etc.)
NCAA Athletics
What you need to know:
If participating at the DI or DII level, you must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center
The NCAA Eligibility Center certifies that you eligible both as a student (academically) and that you are an amateur athlete
There is a $90 fee for registering with the Eligibility Center
Students must request test scores to be sent through testing services using the NCAA Code: 9999
Students should request transcripts for NCAA through Naviance
Scholarships& Financial AidHow to get started…
All students should complete the FAFSA. The CSS Profile is only required for some schools. Both are available October 1.
Got to each college’s financial aid website to see required forms you need to submit and deadlines you need to meet. Look to see if you need to apply separately for any scholarships
Financial Aid Night will be held on Wednesday, October 2
FAFSA Completion Night will be held Wednesday, November 6
Scholarships will be posted to Naviance under the “scholarships” section now-May
