What does FieldSmart mean to you?FieldSmart helps companies improve their operations by providing software that supports their field business processes. Our product brings GIS, map and facility data into the field by streamlining work tasks into a single viewing package, resulting in increased field productivity, reduced truck expenses and lower emissions.

Work needs to be performed swiftly and accurately. FieldSmart helps you do just that.

Challenge 1: Increase the accuracy of asset maps and reduce paper costs.

Solution:

GE’s FieldSmart solution allows you to eliminate paper-based field maps. We provide users with up-to-date facility and location information with fast and easy-to-read tools. Using a map-centric view, users can see the addresses, phone numbers and attributes of field assets.

Using our Inspect and Collect products, the field worker can quickly locate assets to inspect or service them and then provide updates to the back office.

Example:

A large multi-state utility with 700 crews eliminated 105,000 paper map sheets and 2,200 pounds of paper annually using FieldSmart, and they significantly increased the accuracy of their maps.

Challenge 2: Conducting audits or inspections that are time consuming, error prone and difficult to manage but can improve revenue for a utility.

Solution:

FieldSmart automates Joint Use Audits and other inspection types. The FieldSmart Inspect application is a powerful tool for data collection and inspection. It replaces paper-based processes by automating the display, query and editing capabilities of facility information contained within the GIS, asset management and other back office systems. It also enables field crews to optimize travel routes between work locations, reducing travel mileage and associated fuel costs.

Example:

A large multi-state utility with 650 crews reduced annual gasoline consumption by more than 67,000 gallons, saving approximately $218,000 in annual fuel costs at $3.25 per gallon.

Challenge 3: Auditing the asset management and distribution management systems in the aftermath of severe storms.

Solution:

FieldSmart Damage Assessment automates the assessment process. Key integration to mobile work management systems and the ability to automate the data capture process allows crews in the field to assess and capture damage quickly and efficiently without having to return to the site for follow up.

Using FieldSmart , field workers can gain access to up-to-date maps and facility data, along with work management, dispatch and customer information systems in a single, easy-to-use application.

Example:

A large multi-state utility used FieldSmart to automate its Feeder Audit inspection project after a hurricane. The newly automated Feeder Audit inspection project was 2 to 3 times faster than the old manual process, and inspection preparation time was reduced by not having to color code and print maps for the field auditors.

Overall, FieldSmart helps you realize the benefits of enterprise software systems by using this data to support field operation automation. It eliminates the need for manual data collection and manual transfer of that data into back office systems. FieldSmart helps ensure that all the data needed to support field work is available to the field users, irrespective of the source of the data: GIS, CMS, OMS, DMS, WMS and so on. It provides large utilities the flexibility to manage large data sets associated with growing service areas due to consolidations, mergers or acquisitions.

How does GE’s solution extend back office systems into the field? By adding powerful industry tools such as:

Powerful Compression Technology

GE’s compression algorithm eliminates the dependency on network connectivity by converting your GIS, customer and various other data sets into the FieldSmart format, allowing your entire service territory of facilities and related data to fit on each mobile device. This compression capability is the highest degree of compression available in the industry today. More compression leads to faster screen refresh rates, greater field acceptance, less data to synchronize on a daily basis and better performance from other applications on mobile devices.

Incremental Update Process

Our server solution, Field Flow Manager, handles the synchronization of data between the office and the field by powering an incremental update process that keeps disconnected data current . The synchronization process eases data management on the back end by eliminating the need to segment or take only small regions of back office data to the field. These incrementally updated files, called deltas, are typically very small in size, making downloads simple and fast, minimizing data transfer costs.

Ease-of-Use

The powerful user interface is designed to be easy-to-use for everyone. Operators can quickly learn the applications through a user interface that supports on-screen gesturing. Combined with the speed of FieldSmart software, this provides for an easier user experience.

Interface Experience

We have unparalleled, time tested interface experience. Our tool can interface with any scheduling, dispatch and/or mobile work management application as well as other back office customer-built systems. The FieldSmart Standard Interface (FSI) allows seamless interaction between FieldSmart solutions and mobile work management applications.

The FieldSmart Portfolio

FieldSmart View

View is our core client application, providing critical asset data in a map-centric view, which solves the informational needs of field crews. It is designed to hide the complexity of GIS and CAD systems but provide the same level of detail to mobile users. It encompasses map viewing and navigation capabilities as well as tracing for electric and gas networks. Its compelling interface and powerful capabilities make this the ideal viewer for any environment including the office.

FieldSmart Inspect

The Inspect application automates scheduled inspections by replacing paper-based processes. It also quickly captures and geocodes data in the field as users place symbols and redlines on the map. It provides mark-up, query and editing capabilities, along with data collection features.

FieldSmart Collect

Field personnel encounter asset data discrepancies during their daily work routines. Collect enables field personnel to collect and edit asset information efficiently while in the field and from the map. The Collect product can be used to perform audits on existing field assets or to map new assets.

FieldSmart Sketch

Capturing information from the field force has been a laborious paper process, consuming a large amount of an organization’s resources. Sketch is a comprehensive redlining tool that provides the ability to add notes and drawing capabilities (text , symbols and annotation) over the existing map and then distributes the information throughout the enterprise, eliminating the historic issues related to paper-based redlines.

FieldSmart Secure

Empowering the field crews with critical back office asset data opens up the enterprise to new realities in data security. Secure provides application level protection of company asset data in the mobile environment. This application features data encryption, password protection, product lockout and other security features in the event that a mobile data terminal ends up in the wrong hands.

FieldSmart Plot

Some field users require the ability to overlay external data in FieldSmart View. Plot parses the X/Y coordinates from tabular data (i.e., Access, Excel) and charts this data within the FieldSmart View mapping display. It can be applied to many types of information: leak surveys, meter routes, customer data, SCADA points and more.

FieldSmart Standard Interface

The FieldSmart Standard Interface (FSI) allows seamless interaction between FieldSmart and mobile workforce management applications. The FSI design enables both applications to run independently but yet achieve maximum user benefit through a clean, “transparent” set of functions. Users can view the mobile workforce management application integrated into FieldSmart View and easily move back and forth between applications.

FieldSmart Configuration Environment (FCE)

Administrators of enterprise field automation solutions require the ability to manage the ever-changing needs of a complex field work force. The FCE is designed to provide the ability to easily configure FieldSmart mobile applications. With the FCE toolset, you can:

• Construct a mobile data model.

• Create and modify map symbols.

• Set graphical displays of map features.

• Set zoom levels and configure menu and toolbar items.

• Add to or modify GIS data contained in the mobile environment. With FCE tools, configuration and data changes can be easily distributed throughout an enterprise with Field Flow Manager server integration.

Field Flow Manager

Our server solution handles data flow between the office and the field, driving an incremental update process that synchronizes data and keeps field maps and related data current. Bandwidth throughput requirements are greatly minimized due to the small data sets used in our delta update process. Working in wired or wireless environments, field personnel have access to the information needed to solve complex problems at the job site.
