Welcome! There’s no right or wrong way to visit the MFA. It’s a bigplace with lots to see and do. Here are a few suggestionsto get you started.

Start at Sharf Visitor CenterLocated at the center of the Museum on Level 1, Sharf Visitor Center is our information hub. Start your visit here: you can talk to MFA staff and help yourself to handouts for suggestions about art and exhibitions, family activities, guided tours, and programs. Get directions to anywhere you’d like to go in the Museum.

Prefer a free guided tour?We offer free one-hour guided tours of highlights and popular collection areas; these start from Sharf Visitor Center several times a day. See the schedule at Sharf Visitor Center to plan your visit.

What’s new on view?From photography to visiting masterpieces, we have a wide variety of special exhibitions. These shows change regularly, so check www.mfa.org and the “What’s New” flyer to see what’s on view right now.

PLEASE NOTE: To get from Level G to Level LG, please go up to Level 1 to travel across the Museum.

InformationStart your visit here. Sharf Visitor Center, our information hub, is located on Level 1 in the heart of the Museum. Look for the on signs to find it from the entrances. Get directions, see what’s on view, get today’s schedule, rent MFA Guides, join free drop-in programs, guided tours, and gallery talks, and learn about activities for children and families. Member Services is also located here; join, renew, or buy a gift membership, and find out about discounts, events, and more.

AccessibilityThe MFA is committed to accessibility for all visitors.

All Museum entrances are wheelchair accessible, as are all restrooms, with the exception of the restrooms adjacent to Gallery 250. The Everyone restrooms on Level G are single-occupancy restrooms that include baby changing tables and are fully accessible for people who use wheelchairs or require assistance or privacy.

Assistive listening devices are available in auditoriums and for gallery tours and activities. MFA Guide Discover the details with a mobile MFA Guide! Explore on your own or follow a mini tour. Some collection highlights are narrated in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and ASL. Many stops are accessible to Deaf or blind visitors. And there’s a tour just for kids! Available at all ticket desks and the Member Services desk. Members $5; nonmembers $6; kids 17 and under $4. Free for visitors who are Deaf or blind.

Kids and FamiliesThe MFA has many ongoing programs for kids and families. Visit Sharf Visitor Center for more information on structured and self-guided activities for children, from toddlers to teens. The mobile MFA Guide always features dozens of stops created especially for kids. Available at all ticket desks.

Free Wi-Fi and Charging Save your mobile phone battery and access the Internet by connecting to our free guest Wi-Fi network: MFAguest. Charging stations for mobile phones are available at Taste and Sharf Visitor Center.

Dining 465 Bar and Restaurant $$–$$$ Linde Family Wing for Contemporary Art, Level 2. Contemporary cuisine in a sophisticated setting with expert service and sustainable, locally sourced ingredients. This lively restaurant features a bar and a dining area, and is perfect for any occasion—from a quick bite before a film to a celebratory meal. The restaurant accepts reservations at opentable.com or 617-369-3474.

New American Café $$ Shapiro Family Courtyard, Level 1. Hot and cold small plates, entrées, and salads. Soups, desserts, and creative dishes from the Americas, featuring regional wines and craft beers.

Taste $ Linde Family Wing for Contemporary Art, Level 1. Sandwiches and salads, baked goods, coffee, gourmet teas, juices, beer, and wine—enjoy before, after, or during a program in Remis Auditorium.

Garden Cafeteria $ Linde Family Wing for Contemporary Art, Level G. Perfect for families: a comfortable cafeteria offering a salad bar, pizza, sandwiches, hamburgers, soups, snacks, and desserts, including value meals for adults and kids.

Thank you for respecting the works of art on view. Please do not touch or disturb the objects or displays in the galleries. Please stay at least 12 inches away from the art.

You are welcome to take still photographs and video of objects in the permanent collection with a handheld device, without flash or additional lighting, for personal, nondistributional, noncommercial use. Please refrain from photography where noted on specific galleries and works of art. Please do not use flashes, monopods, tripods, selfie sticks, or video cameras in the galleries.

Works on view may be subject to change.

Please enjoy food and beverages in the dining areas only.

We ask that you step outside the galleries when making or answering cell phone calls.

Please store all backpacks and bags larger than 11 x 15 inches in our complimentary coat check.

Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

When parking on city streets around the Museum, please observe city-posted parking restrictions. The city of Boston aggressively enforces these regulations.
