Log Cabin Manufacturing Process: Harvested and sorted out logs are debarked, scraped/planed with a hand tool to prevent wood’s decay. Afterwards, all logs in each row/crown are calibrated/aligned, marked and labeled. Each groove echoes the shape of the log underneath for a precise fit and further isolation (caulking) if necessary. The required slots are sawn/axed out. Every log is carefully notched and secured to the others, their tops to their ends. The adjacent crowns are doweled together with rounded/squared wooden pegs (that are driven into predrilled holes). There are about 50 types of corner joints with their own specifics. For instance, a Canadian joint (‘bowl’) technique prevents extra cracking when drying up/settling/shrinkage. Every log house requires an inter-crown isolation (e.g. flax-and-jute fibers). Self-adjusting settling devices are implemented between walls and ceilings, window frames and walls.
