Manufacturers of pressure equipment can only affix the CE marking if all the requirements of the Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EC (PED) are fulfilled. The PED covers pressure vessels, steam boilers and piping, and also assemblies and accessories such as valves and safety valves. As the PED only contains essential safety requirements, it is always necessary to supplement it with other suitable standards and codes. These can be harmonised standards such as for example EN 13445, and national codes such as AD 2000.
