I. Handy-Cut Installation

You have 1 CD Rom including several softwares

The software runs under windows 98, NT, 2000, XP.

Insert the CD into your PC. You will find :

- Installer for the PicaSoft software's

- Installer for sample files

- Installer for the documentation.

Just follow the instruction to install HandyCut.

I.1. The Protection

HandyCut is protected by a serial number and a dongle. Without it it works in

demonstration mode. You are not allowed to save tool path. Plug the dongle to your computer

and set the serial number into HandyCut

• Select menu View / serial number


I.2. Configuration

• Select menu View / Parameters

Parameters for the interface

• Sélect menu CAM / Configuration

Select your machine tool configuration and the parameters for the output files


I.II. Connecting the arm

• Select menu Arm / Selection

Choose your arm

• Configuration for the arm (for serial arm only)

Select the baud rate Select the port.

When your arm is configured you can connect it : arm/Connect


II. The interface of Handy-Cut

II.1. Presentation

The software can be configured into French, English or italian during the installation

You can work in inches or in mm

The interface is composed of :

• 4 Views (right, top, front 3D)

• Menu,

• Command bar,

• Icon bar,

• Status bar.

The numerical indication Numerical information adapted to the function you use is displayed .

Displacement vector, rotation angle or scale factor

Grid step is also displayed.

Status bar (At the bottom)

display the active selection mode (i.e. Points, Objects ou Zones)

Command bar (top of the screen)

It shows the active function and what is expected.


II.2. Manipulation of the views

Right button of the mouse: rotation of the 3D view

Shift + Right button of the mouse: move the view

Wheel of the mouse: Zoom + / Zoom –

Double Click in a view: Maximise the view

II.3. Selection mode

Handy-Cut has 3 selection modes:

- Point

- Object

- Zone

Press space bar to change the selection mode.

It is an exclusive selection by default.

Control + Right button of the mouse: Add to selection

Shift Right button of the mouse: remove to selection

II.4. Numeric dialog box

Most of the functionality can by configured by numerical value

When it is the case, Numeric active in the status bar

to open this dialog box :

- Use shortcut ‘N’ - Press N in the icon bar


III. The Objects

III.1. Point

Points are used to create the hole

III.2. Circle

Circle are parametric objects defined by control points

3 points

Centre, Radius, Normal

diameter, Normal

III.3. Rectangle

Rectangles are parametric objects defined by control points

4 Sides

1 Side et 1 point

2 points in O xy plan


III.4. Rounded Rectangle

They are defined using both a rectangle and a circle.

III.5. Curves

Two kind of curves are available:

polyline

Cubic curves

Each curve is define by points and normals.


IV. The Menus

IV.1. File

New Clear the current document and create a new one

Open Clear the current document and load the selected document

Handycut scene use .hdt extention

Insert Merge the current document with the selected one

Import Import cnc file

Save Save the document

Save as Save the document with another name.


IV.2. Edit

Numeric Call the dialog box to specify parameters for the active function

Undo / redo Undo redo is unlimited

Select All Select all the item for the curent selection mode

Select None Unselected all the selected items

Invert selection

Change selection mode Switch between the different selection modes ( Point, Object, zone)

Delete Clear the selection


IV.3. CAM

Machine tool configuration

This is a very important point to check before working.

Error length is due to the convertion from parametric object to polyline when you

save the file

Angular error is used only for 5 axis configuration and represent the maximum

allowed angular variation between two successive points.


Simulation

Select an object and activate the function

It allow to simulate with a constant feed rate the movement of the tool. With this, we

can see the area where the normal evolves too fast. It allow to decide were the normales

need to be modified (smooth, rotate…)

Security height is an absolute value, it is the altitude where the tool goes to

translate to another tool path.

IV.4. Transformation

Invert the normals (Flip) Select an object and activate the function

Ajuster un point Switch in selection point mode.

Select a point

Apply the function

Using numerical mode you can specify the values


With the arm it is possible to :

Move the point (left button)

Define the normal (right button).

Reverse direction Select an object and activate the function

By default the first digitise point is the starting point

Define departure point Select an object and activate the function

Click on the object to set the starting position

Tool position

Offset Select an object and activate the function

Specify here the kind of offset and and its length

Symmetry copy

Use left mouse button or numerical dialog box. (Shortcut ‘N’)

Copy Displacement

Use left mouse button or numerical dialog box. (Shortcut ‘N’)

Convert to …

Parametric object can be converted into curves in order to be edited (Add point ,

merge…)

Cubic curve

Specify here error length and angular error for the conversion

Polyline Identical to the last one


Translation

Select the items you want to modify

Use left mouse button for interactive edition

Use the dialog box (Shortcut 'N') to specify numerical values

Tangency

Select the function and select a point

You can see the tangency when you

make the selection

With the right mouse button you can

translate modify the tangency

To modify only half a tangency, press

Select an open curve and apply the function

Point Selection


Add a point Activate the function and click on a

curve with left button.

Cut

Activate the function and click with left button on a curve to cut it

Merge

Select two curves and apply the function

Selection order define merge order


Smooth normals

The aim of smoothing is to limit the acceleration of the machine tool along the tool

path

Select a curve and apply the function

Specify the smoothing factor

Original curve:

The result: normals are now smoothed


Réorganiser les normales

La réorganisation des normales, comme la fonction précédente a pour objectif de limiter

les fortes évolutions des normales. Cette fonction offre cependant un contrôle beaucoup plus

précis de cette évolution.

The normal between the selected point are interpolated and the selected normals are kept


IV.6. Zone

Set active zone This function allows you to choose the current working zone.

To activate a zone :

Switch on zone selection mode

Select a zone.

Apply the function

Active zone Machine tool dattum (global) Active zone = edition zone


Add new (In active zone) This function allows you to move the arm

Activate the function. Specify position and orientation of the new datum.

Digitize

Activate the function

With the left button of the arm (foot pedal)

Define the centre ( 1 click)

Define X direction ( 1 click)

Define Y positive area ( 1 click)

Points Point creation with the arm or the mouse

Curves : Control point (Mouse) This function allow to directly create curves with the mouse

You can choose what kind of curve you want (polyline or cubic curves).

Cubic curves Polyline Control point


Curve : contrôle point (arm) Same as the last function but with the arm

Circle : 3 points Activate the function and create 3 points

You can specify numerical parameters with the dialog box (press shortcut 'N')

Circle : Center, Radius, Normale Same as the last function.

Circle : diameter, Normal Same as the last function.

Curve : Scan Select the function.

1. Choose the kind of curve you want

2. Specify the acceptable error (smoothing parameter)

3. Keep the left button of the arm press to create a curve


When you have finished the software removes the noise from the digitized curve

A cubic curve is more interesting because it is composed of fewer points for a similar

precision. It is more easy to edit.

Rounded Rectangle Select the function.

Switch selection mode to Object

Select a rectangle and a curve

Press return to create the rounded rectangle


Rectangle : 4 lines Select the function and create the control points


Rectangle : 1 line, 1 point Same as the last function.

Rectangle 2 points (into reference plane O,x,y,z) Same as the last function.
