Helping Children Bounce Back Many thanks to the parents who came along to the two recent information sessions called Helping Children Bounce Back. It is wonderful that these sessions have

generated so much interest from our parent community. In the future, we intend to continue with smaller scale parent workshops in this area as we continue to roll out the nine Bounce Back! units in all stages.

In the presentation we discussed what resilience is and watched a video from Mindmatters called ‘What is

Mental Health?’ We also discussed the work of psychologist Carol Dweck on the Growth Mindset and looked at the evidence on which the Bounce Back! program is based. Catherine Wyles and Cliona Mulloy explained the importance of familiarising yourself with

the Bounce Back! acronym statements so that parents can continue to model ways of coping with adversity at home.

Bushlink Update Due to the weather, filming for the Bushlink promotional video involving students in 3JL, 4B, 4W and 5P has been postponed until next week. When arrangements have been confirmed, we will inform parents of participating students in the abovementioned classes. Bushlink members will be at school on Thursday 2nd June to film with

Jamie Durie and one of our talented Year 6 students, Jordan Lovegrove.

Year 3 Numeracy Group with Parents On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons a group of Year 3 students are practising their number skills with parent support. The students are involved in Short Focused Frequent (SFF) activities to improve their confidence with mental computation. I would like to acknowledge the students for their efforts and enthusiasm, parents for their help, Mona Johnson for establishing and organising the program and Catherine Wyles for running the parent training workshop. In the short time I have been working with the students, I have seen a growth in confidence and competence. It is a joy to witness.

Manly West Before & After School Care

INCURSIONS/ENRICHMENT Program

Starting this term, BASC has been bringing in specialist external providers to give the

children skills/activities to extend their experiences. The programs generally run between 4:00pm and 5:30pm one day per week in each of the three rooms. The aim is for every child to have this opportunity to participate at least once in the year. If at all possible, we would ask parents to collect their children after 5:30pm on the relevant day.

On Tuesday, 3/4 Club will be doing a Cartoon Kingdom workshop. K-2 is having a Heidi Hoops Show incursion on Thursday. 3D Design continues on a Wednesday in the 5/6 Club. On Monday next week, 5/6 will be also be doing Cartooning.

Some other activities this week:

K-2 will be working on 3 new art walls – under the ocean, forest and African savannah. Outside the

children will be having races incorporating the bean bags they have made.

The children in 3/4 Club will be creating obstacle courses at the coloured equipment and challenging

each other to see who is fastest!

The 3D printing workshop finishes this week with the children to receive their self-designated noughts

and crosses games. Those that attend on Friday have been planning for an end of term party called Winter Wonderland, and will start practicing their stalls this week. There is also a special treat of

popcorn and a soccer challenge planned.
