OFFICE OF THE MANIPUR STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION DELHI PRESS RELEASE
DATED : 27th Feb 2017 REF.NO:20170227
Racial discrimination of North-East youths in the country never ended. One Thanmayon RS, student of Ambedkar University was allegedly abused and threatened by one Station House Officer at Jamui District of Bihar.
Thanmayon RS said that the incident happen on 16th October, 2016 at around 9pm when he was with
approximately 150 women, children and other villagers at Chakai police station to file a complain against
the illegal work going on in Dulampur Panchayat of Bihar. There, the Station House Officer of Chakai
started interrogating him just because of his looks. The SHO mentioned in the beginning said that he look
different and thus, interrogation is necessary. The SHO abuses him and threatens the villagers. And then he
tried to explain the whole thing in English as his Hindi was not that good but the SHO could not
understand and later, when one of his friend Sanjeev Kumar tried to explain it in Hindi, the SHO didn't
allow him to utter a word.
This is a clear example of racial discrimination. Instead of listening, the SHO started abusing and
threatened to put behind the jail. The policemen there pulled both of them behind the bar. When they
became aggressive to defend themselves, the SHO repeatedly said that he is questioning because he looks
different.
The incident happen when Thanmayon RS went to Gobindpur village in Nawadih Panchayat, Chakai
Block, Jamui district, of Bihar as part of his course for his village immersion.
MSAD strongly condemns this act of racial discrimination on looks, race and caste. MSAD request the
concerned authority and Bihar government to take up strong action to whoever guilty involved in the
incident. Otherwise MSAD would have a closer look in the matter and would take up whatever action
necessary.

Bideshwori Huidrom

PRESS RELEASE
DATE: 22ND SEPTEMBER, 2017 A joint mass protest demanding justice for the mysterious murder of Pravish Chanam, and the police inaction regarding the disappearance of Taorem Bittoo was collectively organised by more than thirty different students’ organisations of Delhi which included NSUD, KSO, DAMMS, ABSUD, GSA, NESSDU, UNIKAS, NESF(JNU), TKLD, ASUD, ZSUD, ADI, BSASO, BAPSA, AISA, DSF, COLLECTIVE(JNU), TSFD, DSU, PSU, GSU, PNTMD, KRSUD, MSUD, NSUI(JNU) and JNUSU, under the initiative of MSAD in front of UP Bhavan, SP Marg, New Delhi on 21st September 2017. Around 1000 protestors turned up for the protest to extend their solidarity from different parts of Delhi. The protest started at around 2:00 PM in front of Assam Bhawan with a briefing from the President of MSAD, Bideshori Huidrom. Following that, the brother of the deceased Govind Chanam addressed the protestors about the mysterious murder of his brother. His cousin sister, Linthoingambi questioned the lapses and the potential nexus between the hospital authorities of BR Ambedkar and the Noida police, that led to the mysterious murder and the cremation of her brother without informing the family members, despite the missing complaint that was lodged three days before the cremation. The family members exposed three different death certificates of Pravish Chanam, which were all with different dates and times, provided by the police, hospital authority and the crematorium house. Suspecting a foul play from all these incidents, they demanded that a CBI enquiry be initiated at the earliest. The moderators of the protest proceeded with slogans UP POLICE KILLER, UP POLICE LIAR, KILLER SHOULD BE HANGED, WE WANT JUSTICE, DOWN WITH RACISM, CBI ENQUIRY FOR PRAVISH et al. Then, the protestors with the slogans thronged towards UP Bhavan. All the student leaders of the various organizations addressed the protestors pertaining to the same incident in demand for justice against the atrocities, racism and heinous crimes towards the North East people. They reacted and condemned strongly against the failure of the Indian state to protect human lives of the people of North East who are residing in Delhi and other parts of India. A memorandum was submitted to the CM of Uttar Pradesh, through the Resident Commissioner of UP Bhavan. The three demands of the memorandum are: 1. CBI enquiry for Pravish Chanam 2. Speedy investigation on the death of Pravish Chanam 3. Strict actions against all the officials and people involved. The copy of the memorandum was also submitted to the CM of Manipur, Nongthombam Biren through the Deputy CM, Yumnam Joykumar. The Deputy Resident Commissioner of Manipur Bhawan assured the student representatives that the same copy will
also be forwarded to Mr. Promod Asthana, ADGP of Manipur who was sent by CM of Manipur to get factual information about the incident from the state government of Uttar Pradesh. The same copy will also be forwarded to the Prime Minister Office. With Regards, Bideshwori Huidrom, President, MSAD

JOIN MASS RALLY AGAINST THE MASSIVE RACIAL
CRIME TOWARDS NE PEOPLES. VENUE: VIJAY NAGAR
DOUBLE STOREY GATE NO 1 TO ARTS FACULTY, DU.
TIME: 4:00 PM TO 7:00 PM ON 12th JAN 2018. LET'S JOIN
OUR STATEMENT MASS RALLY AGAINST THE MASSIVE RACIAL CRIME TOWARDS NORTH-EAST PEOPLES. Date: 12-01-2018, Venue: Arts Faculty DU, Time: 4:00 pm to 7:00pm.
It is very unsafe to stay in a city of crime like DELHI, especially we, the NE peoples with distinguished features unlike ‘the so called mainland people’. There has been a series of racial inhuman crime rendered towards the NE because of our distinguished features. It is high time to collectively resist against such injustice and to spread the message of no more tolerance to any heinous crime towards any NE. Here, in the recent series of events regarding racial discrimination against people from the “North East”, we would like to keep a few collective understanding towards the incidents. There are a list of people who were killed in the city and we have always witnessed justice being delayed and denied. To mention some from the recent incident: 1. Shiddarth Moirangthem’s Death 2. Pravish Chanam’s Death 3. Bitoo Taorem’s disappearance
In the first incident, Shiddarth died after falling off from a rooftop on mysterious circumstances. Pravish went missing, despite a missing report being filed and with video evidences emerging of his healthy appearance surfacing after his death; he was found cremated by the Noida Police without informing to his family and friends. In the third incident, Bitoo Taorem disappeared after his evening walk. In all the incidents, there were clear and evident racial discrimination being carried out at an institutional level, systematically and structurally. The first death was without much investigation, declared by the police as death due to drunken accident, then as blue whale game and other reasons the police could possibly think of to brush aside a thorough investigation. The racial discrimination in terms of the second case is too self-evident to talk about further. The third case saw the inactiveness of the police towards any committed investigation for someone whose identity is tagged as the “North East”. The family of the disappeared had to search themselves; the police denied a sniffer dog as help on the day the family searched in the park. People with a particular facial structure have been called as “North East”, transcending the geo-political region it represents into a ghettoized identity. “North East” has become the outwardly racial marker and synonymous to the so called banned word “Chingky”. Whenever authorities have addressed the case of the “North East”, MSAD has observed that there has always been with a certain lethargic inactiveness from the authorities which sustains and circulates racial oppression. Racial oppression is something MSAD had always sought to address and fight, no matter how much the authority deny it. Any organizations of any form or individuals denying racial oppression are considered as sustaining the oppression. To add on to the above list there are cases of Nido Tania who died in day broad light in an incident of attack by goons at Chandni Chowk. Awungshi was found death and there was no proper investigation on that incident. Richard Loitam was attacked by group of mainland Indian friends’ while watching cricket match. So, off all these series of incidents, justice was never served despite massive agitation and prolonged struggles by many progressive student and civil society organisations. How long are we going to tolerate such inhuman act toward us? Most recent incident of Pravish Chanam murder case is a clear evidence of negligence and failure of the Indian judiciary system. LETS JOIN HAND TO RAISE OUR COLLECTIVE VOICE AGAINST ANY INJUSTICE. LET JUSTICE BE SERVED TO ALL THE BEREAVED FAMILY.
