How Do You Grow a Mango Tree?Mango trees (Mangifera indica) are
deep-rooted plantsthat may become large specimens in the landscape.
Theyare evergreen and generally produced o rootstocks thatincrease
the hardiness of the plants. Mango trees beginfruit production in
three years and form fruit quickly.
Choose a variety that is best suited for your zone. Theplant can
thrive in almost any soil but requires well-drained soil in a site
with protection from cold. Positionyour tree where it will receive
full sun for best fruitproduction.
Newmangotreeplanting
is done in late winter to early spring when the plant is
notactively growing.
Mango Tree PlantingPrepare the site by digging a hole that is
twice as wideand deep as the root ball. Check the drainage by lling
thehole with water and watching how fast it drains. Mangotrees can
survive some periods of ooding, but thehealthiest plants are
produced where soils percolate well.Plant the young tree with the
graft scar just at the soilsurface.
You dont need to prune the young plant but watch forsuckers from
the graft and prune them o. Young mangotree care must include
frequent watering as the plantestablishes.
