9. INTERNAL QUALITY ASSURANCE CELL (IQAC)

Objectives:

To develop a system for conscious, consistent and catalytic action to improve the quality of academic and administrative activities of the Institution.

To promote measures for institutional functioning towards quality enhancement through internalization of quality culture and institutionalization of best practices.

11. Student feedback mechanism on Institutional Governance/Faculty performance

Feedbacks from students are taken every semester and at the end of every year regarding the performance of faculty, administration and other concerned activities. The feedback data is analyzed and suitable modifications or improvements made / incorporated for improving the overall efficiency are introduced.

Feedback from students in the form of filled in forms is periodically taken by Heads of Departments of all branches regarding the faculty performance as well as other problems or inconveniences that students are likely to face in the day to day run of the institution. A panel of members consisting of Secretary, Principal and H.O.Ds look into the analysis of the feedback thus received, and inform the teachers of their performance in private. Appropriate suggestions, if any, are given to them accordingly. An annual review by members of Management and Principal is undertaken to discuss about more effective ways of administrative procedures. Based on feedback and other important factors like parental opinion, plans for further expansion of the institutional establishment etc., recommendations are made and decisions taken towards upgrading institutional governance.

12. Grievance redressal mechanism for faculty, staff and students.

A Grievance redressal cell with a Professor as Chairman and faculty and students as members is functioning in the college and the Grievances that have been reported are addressed and suitable corrective actions taken by the college authorities and the management.

Faculty assigned with special responsibilities act as counselors to specific groups of students. Grievances or complaints from students are taken to Grievances Committee (a separate one exists for girls) by these counselors. This committee comprises of senior faculty of the institution and is formed simultaneously with the commencement of every academic year. The administrations, thus, attends to problems in consultation with teachers and wardens (regarding hostels) concerned and do the needful. The Principal holds meetings regularly with the members of Grievances Committee where upon objectives, functioning and better execution of its duties are discussed and decisions made. 13. 15. Professional Society Memberships:

Pragati Engineering College ISTE chapter is proposed to be inaugurated in the month of Feb/ March, 2010.

College is an institutional member of Computer Society of India since 2006. Department of CSE has started CSI student branch in the year 2006. Currently 108 students are active members of CSI.

Several Technical seminars and workshops have been organized by the department of CSE under CSI Student branch.

Dept. of ECE has started the IETE student chapter in the year 2006 with 119 student members. Steps have been taken to admit 127 students in the current academic year in the aforesaid chapter.

Dept. of Mechanical Engineering has done some preliminary work to start Institute of Engineers (IE) student chapter in this academic year.

Professional activities : The college is an institutional member with Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE). Plans are on for starting a ISTE Student branch.

Present Status of the Sanctioned/Approved Sponsored Research Projects

1. Major Research Project sponsored by BRNS, BARC, Mumbai entitled “Spatial distribution of uranium and water quality parameters in 4 districts Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam East Godavari Districts of Andhra Pradesh and Yanam (UT of Puducherry)” sanctioned with a financial grant of Rs. 26.94 Lakhs received from in favour of Dr. P.V.S. Machiraju, Professor of Chemistry, Dean-R&D. First year grant Rs. 18, 95,250/- released and First year Audit report submitted to BRNS and it was approved. Terminal Grant–in-aid Rs.6, 97,200/- sanctioned and is released for the year 2017-18. Out of this grant Equipment worth of Rs.10,50,000/- was provided to R&D Division and an amount of Rs.--------- was paid to the Institution towards maintenance Charges.

National Conference: Three Day National Conference on Innovative Perspectives of Chemistry in Environment, Pharmacy

and Technology (CEPT-2017) and National Convention of Chemistry Teachers (NCCT-2017) was

organized by the Department of Chemistry under the Convener ship of Dr. P.V.S. Machiraju, Professor

of Chemistry, Dean-R&D from 6th – 8th October 2017. The Conference was sponsored by Board of

Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), BARC, Mumbai and Association of Chemistry Teachers (ACT),

Mumbai. 12 invited talks by Resource persons, 24 oral presentations by participants and 79 poster

presentations by scholars and students were presented. Participants including Faculty, Research

Scholars and Students participated in the Conference. 71 students participated in Poster and Oral

presentations

1. A One Day Workshop on “Awareness on Entrepreneurship” by Sudhkar Sattenpalli on 28-07-2017 FOR

II & III Year students. 150 Students attended to this program.

2. We have successfully conducted A Two Week faculty Development Programme in Entrepreneurship

Development in association with NI-MSME, Hyderabad during 07-08-2017 to 18-08-2017. 30 faculty

members attended to this program.

A) GOLD MEDALS AND CASH AWARDS FOR BEST OUTGOING STUDENTS

I. Smt. Nittala Satyavathi Gold Medal for the best outgoing undergraduate student is instituted by Sri N. Krishna Kumar garu, a famous industrialist in Singapore in the name of his mother. Ms. KOTTURI LAKSHMI PRIYANKA of B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering branch is adjudged as the Best Outgoing B.Tech student for the academic year 2017-2018. She will be awarded a gold medal and cash of Rs.8,000/-.

II. Smt. Bolla Venkata Lakshmi gold medal for the second best outgoing B.Tech student is instituted by her son Sri B.Venkata Srivasu garu. Ms. IVATURI SAI MANASA of B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering branch is adjudged as the Second Best Outgoing B.Tech student for the academic year 2017-2018. She will be awarded a gold medal and cash of Rs.5,000/-. The two prize winners are wholeheartedly congratulated for their overall performance in academics as well as co-curricular and extra-curricular activities as recommended by College Academic Committee.

B) “Smt. Paruchuri Kamalamba” endowment is created by Dr. P. Krishna Rao garu, Chairman of

our college in the name of his late mother. The “first and second best” outgoing “Girl students” of each B.Tech branch will get cash award of Rs.6,000/- and Rs.4,000/- respectively, based on the marks scored upto the “college day”. The college conveys its gratitude to the Chairman for his benevolence towards the cause of “Women’s Education”.

Human resource planning: The Chairman/ Principal shall assess in the month of April every year the staff requirement for the subsequent academic year. He will obtain the staff requirement lists from all the heads of department and arrive at the number of faculty members and administrative staff required with the following guidelines in mind.

Grievance Cell: Grievance Cell for faculty and students is formed to solve the problems from time to time. A Grievance Cell for ladies is separately established.

Leave and Vacation Rules: 12 casual leaves are sanctioned to the faculty in every calendar year. Vacation period is decided for the faculty based on the experience they put in at this institute. Maternity leave and extraordinary leave, Holiday Compensatory leave (HCL), Medical leave, Study leave are sanctioned to the faculty, as mentioned in the policy book.

Recruitment, Pay & Incentives: Recruitment procedure for teaching and non-teaching staff along with eligibility criteria are laid down and followed meticulously. Pay scales are given as decided by the management committee. Dearness allowance is increased from time to time based on the recommendation of the governing body. Increments and promotions are sanctioned as per the experience and rules prescribed.

Incentives and Rewards: A few incentives are sanctioned for the faculty presenting papers at national and international level seminars and for the publication of research papers in journals.

Promotion Policy: All promotions shall be considered on the basis of merit- cum – seniority basis.

Under normal circumstances the senior most member of the staff shall be considered for promotion to the next higher level position, subject however, he/she had completed the years of service in the present position as prescribed below and should have obtained AICTE prescribed qualification:

Basic Units: The College has Training & Placement Cell, Alumni Association, and Entrepreneur Development Cell to offer specialized services to the students.

Examination Branch: Exclusive Examination Branch is established and a separate account is maintained for all the examination related transactions. Remuneration for all examination related duties is paid to the staff members as per the guidelines of

JNTU, Kakinada.

Rules are laid down for obtaining quotations, placing orders and maintenance of stock books (consumable and non consumable items) and equipment required for the laboratories.

Retirement: The employees in all categories of posts shall retire from service after attaining the age of superannuation w.e.f the afternoon of the last day of the month in which their date of the month in which their date of superannuation falls. Guidelines may be laid for seeking reemployment in the Institution after attaining the age of superannuation.

The regular employees of the Institute are entitled for Employee Provident Fund Scheme under the provisions Act, 1952, and related pension scheme of1995.

Employee Provident Fund scheme facility is provided in the college as per rules.

Group Insurance benefit is offered to all the staff of the college.

Consulting, R&D and Teaching Assignments: The College encourages its teachers to take consultancy and R&D assignments within Institution, with other institutions or Industries, appropriate to the teachers' competence. The College permits its teachers to take up teaching assignment with other educational institutions subject to the conditions.

Incentives – Students:

50 % of the Professional Society Annual membership fee will be paid by the Management for students with 80% aggregate.

There will be a “Best-Outgoing Student of the College Award”. For this a Gold Medal and Cash award of worth 10,500/- will be given.

Endowments will be instituted by approaching the philanthropists and awards will be given accordingly.

There will be annual merit scholarships of worth 1.44 LAKH rupees to the academic annual toppers (Year-wise) of each department.

Basic Amenities : To meet the basic needs of the students, the institute provides Hostel, Canteen, Transportation facility, Sports and Games, Dispensary, Public Call Office, Waiting halls and Xerox facility, etc.
