World number one Serena Williams' par-tying has reportedly caused an icy riftbetween her and her sister Venus Wil-liams, according to rumours from tennisinsiders. The American tennis champshave not been seen together off thecourt in recent weeks, and many wonderif Serena's late nights out and dis-appointing doubles performances haveannoyed the more low-key Venus. An in-sider was heard during the US Openclaiming that Serena and Venus are notin a good place right now, adding thatthe later is angry with the world numberone because of her active social life offthe court, New York Post reported. Someeven noticed that Venus and Serenadidn't arrive together or even speak toeach other at the Taste of Tennis kickoffevent for the US Open a few weeks ago.

Are Serena, Venus nursing icy rift?

New Delhi: Faced with severecriticism from various quarterson the composition of Indiancontingent for the Asian Games,the government is set to make aU-turn and name managers in23 disciplines out of 28 the coun-try will compete in the multi-sporting event.

Indian Olympic As-sociation secretarygeneral Rajeev Mehtasaid that the sportssecretary has told himthat the ministry willre-consider its deci-sion.

“I had spoken to thesports secretary aboutthe difficulties the In-dian contingent mayface without managers in the 23disciplines and he has given mea positive response,” Mehta saidon Thursday.

“So, I am preparing the listof managers and I think thesports ministry will re-considerits decision (to exclude 23 man-agers). I think all the 23 manag-ers will be cleared,” he added.

While clearing a 679-strongIndian contingent for the Sep-tember 19 to October 4 Games inSouth Korea, the government

had dropped all the managers,except for five, who have beenproposed by Indian Olympic As-sociation. The Sports Ministryhad also barred the IOA andNSFs from sending managers attheir own cost.

The IOA had made a requestto the ministry tore-consider its de-cision to excludethe managers butSports Authorityof India DirectorGeneral JijiThomson had saidthat the govern-ment would notmake any changesin the list.

The managersnamed in the sports ministry'slist, which was cleared on Tues-day after consultation with thePrime Minister's Office includetennis star Sania Mirza's moth-er Naseema Mirza, Rajan F Ira-ni (golf), V K Dhal (shooting),Ramavtar Singh Jakhar (volley-ball) and K D Singh (yatching).

Mehta also said that hewould request the governmentto extend the time period of visitof delegates to Asian Gamesfrom five to 10 days. PTI

North Korean athletes ar-rived in South Korea onThursday for this month'sAsian Games after taking arare flight across the sensi-tive maritime border. Secu-rity was tight as an Air Ko-ryo plane with 94 athletesand officials from Pyon-gyang landed in the South'smain international airportin the western port city of In-cheon, close to Seoul.

Some 20 South Koreanswith a placard reading "Wel-come North Korean ath-letes!" waved "one Korea"flags showing the unifiedKorean peninsula in thewaiting hall of the airport.They chanted "We are fromone nation!" as the North Ko-reans, wearing white jacketsand badges bearing the im-age of late leaders Kim Il-Sung and Kim Jong-Il, walk-ed into buses outside the air-port. The North Koreans,escorted by South Koreanpolice, left for the Asiad ath-letes' village, without com-menting.

OCA may prepone nextAsiad for IndonesiaNicosia: The next Asian

Games may be brought for-ward a year to avoid a clashwith presidential electionsin Indonesia, a senior offi-cial said on Thursday.

Indonesia, who are likelyto be announced as the nexthosts on September 20, haveasked to move the tourna-ment from 2019 to 2018, hesaid. London: Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridgewill miss up to six matches after injuring him-

self while on international dutywith England, manager BrendanRodgers revealed on Thursday.Sturridge, 25, strained his thighin a training session last Friday,forcing him to miss England's 2-0win over Switzerland in their

opening Euro 2016 qualifier on Monday.Rodgers told a press conference on Thursday

that Sturridge would be out for"up to three weeks". He thereforestands to miss three PremierLeague games, including the derby against Ev-erton on September 27, a League Cup tie againstMiddlesbrough, and Liverpool's first two Cham-pions League group games.

Sturridge sustained the injury 36 hours afterplaying for 89 minutes in England's 1-0 friendlywin over Norway and Rodgers believes the play-er should have been given more time to recover."We're obviously disappointed because we feel itwas an injury which could have been prevent-ed," the Liverpool manager said on Thursday.
