BEST - Better efficiency for sewage treatment
WP2 ADDRESSING THE STATE OF THE ART: MANAGEMENT AND TREATAMENT
OF INDUSTRIAL WWTs in the BSR (Leader RTU, involved all)
BEST Project
Assessing the current situation: Management and treatment of
industrial waste watersin BSR – the goal is to evaluate “baseline”
for:
1. main problematic pollutants discharged from different
industrial sources;
2. compare legislation and directives in project partner
countries,
3. review of currently used technologies and model of
cooperation between industry andkey stakeholders.
The aim of this work is to determine which kind of changes and
resources would beneeded to improve management of industrial
effluents.

Feasibility report for identified solutions for management of
industrial effluents to reduce nutrient removal:
BEST Project
(i) overall description of existing solutions for nutrient
andhazardous substances (HS - leader TUT) removal;
(ii) main pollutants in BEST project partner countries;
(iii) comparison of legalisation in different countries
andmanagement schemes.

Structure of the questionnaireBEST Project
Please describe, how theindustrial wastewater treatment
isregulated (if at all) beforedischarge to public
sewagenetwork?
Is there a legislation at all thatregulates industrial
wastewatertreatment before discharge to publicsewage network?
YES NO
Based on internationallevel (e.g.EU directives)?
Based on national level?Based on municipal / locallevel?
YES NO

Structure of the questionnaireBEST Project
Please describe whichlegislation acts(references), what arethe
requirements,limitations?
What industries do you have related toindustrial wastewater
treatment beforedischarge to public sewage network? Howmany (each
industry separately)?
Which institution isresponsible forcontrolling ofcompliance
withlegislation? Pleasedescribe hierarchy ifthere is more than
one.
What is a content of untreated industrialwastewater (are the
data comparable withdata given in handbooks?) and whichtechnology
of industrial wastewatertreatment is most common /
advantageous(operational costs) for every industry listedabove?
Expected results after filling thisquestionnaire.

Structure of the questionnaireBEST Project
Comparison of legislative acts andrequirements with
substantiations. Thiswill help to find out which model ismutually
beneficial for industry andwater companies.
Comparison of content of untreatedindustrial wastewater in fact
with contentreflected in handbooks. This will allow toverify that
handbook information is correctenough or shall be corrected
accordingly.
Comparison of industrial wastewatertreatment methods for every
industry beforedischarging to public sewer network. This willhelp
to understand the efficiency of thetreatment method, and are the
requirementsfulfilled. Detecting of the places of improvingthe
technologies.. The new guidelines forindustry planning can be
created.
IMPORTANT: questionnaire shall be filled by one main partner per
country to ensure the quality of the data!
