SO THAT A RELATION-NET WORK CAN AND OFTEN DOES LAST FOR A FAR LONGER TIME THAN THE DURATION OF A SINGLE HUMAN LIFETIME. THUS THE EVIDENCE FOR THE OPERATION OF KARMA IN THE HISTORIES OF COMMUNITIES AND INSTITUTIONS DOES NOT REQUIRE THE HYPOTHESIS THAT A PERSONALITY RETAINS A CONTINUOUS IDENTITY THROUGH A SERIES OF BIRTHS AND DEATHS.
