INTRODUCTION

BMW was officially founded as a public company in1922

BMW stands for Bayerische Motoren Werke.

BMW owes its actual founding by three men: Josef Popp,Max Friz, and Camillo Castiglioni.

Two of these pioneering men, Karl Rapp and Gustav

Otto, are credited by BMW as the "founding fathers".



HISTORY

Beginning with aircraft engines, BMW AG produced a variety of products in its early years, eventually

shifting to motorcycle production in 1923 andautomobiles in 1929.The circular blue and white BMW logo, not alteredthroughout the company's history many surviving machine tools were confiscated by the

victorious Allies.

CULTURE

The term "beemer" started as an acronym for the

closely associated with BMW motorcycles



PRODUCTION

BMW produced the BMW R75 motorcycle with a sidecarattached.

Their first notable motorcycle, after the failed Helios andFlink was the "R32" in 1923.

BMW started building motorcycle engines and thenmotorcycles after WWI.

In 2004, BMW introduced the new K1200S Sports Bike which marked a departure for BMW.



MOTORCYCLE CLUBS

BMW motorcycles have invoked the interest in

clubs, or groups of people who share the samepassion for their Bavarian bikes. The two largestBMW motorcycle clubs in the world areheadquartered in the United States. They are the

BMW Riders Association and the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America.



AUTOMOBILES

The current BMW model lineup is split into what

is referred to as "Series", traditionally identified by a single digit - e.g. the 3 Series.



1 SERIES

The 1 Series was launched globally in Fall 2004

and shares many structural chassis and electonicelements with the 3-series. The model wasstarted to replace the aborted Rover R30hatchback following the sale of Rover and Land-

Rover, the car will be available in North Americafor the 2008 production year



3 SERIES

The BMW 3 Series is a

compact executive carmanufactured since MY 1975. The E90 is the5th generation 3 series.



6 SERIES

The 6 Series is BMW's

grand touring luxury sport coupé. Currently available as the 650i incoupé and coupéconvertible, the 6 series

returned in 2004, aftera 15 year absence fromBMW's model lineup.



7 SERIES

BMW's full-sizeflagship executivesedan. Typically, BMW introduces much of their innovations firstin the vaunted 7 series.Hydrogen powered

production vehicle,have all debuted in the7 series



X3

BMW's second SUV debuted in 2004 (called

SAV or Sports Activity Vehicle by BMW) and is based on the E46 3 Series layout, but theexterior is quite different.



X5

The BMW X5 (E53) is a

mid-size luxury SUV (SAV) sold by BMW since 2000. It featuresall-wheel drive and aline of straight-6 and

V8 engines. For non-US models there is a3.0 L diesel engine.





M6

The M6 is the M division's version of the E63.

The M6 shares its drivetrain with the M5. The V10 produces 500 horsepower (370 kW). Thisnew engine is mated to a seven-speed SMGtransmission.



Z4 M

BMW¶s two-seater is powered by the same prize-

winning 3.2-litre straight-six M engine alsofeatured in the BMW M3(E46) and the BMW Z4Roadster.



PROTOTYPES

A prototype designed as a "Ferrari k iller".It was never put into production becauseof the lack of a market f or such a car.

an engine builder and has not won as ateam/constructor up to 2007.
