    The sale attracted record atten-dance both on viewing day andon sale day itself with standing

    room only in the sale room.T h e w i d e r a n g e o f b uy e rsincluded trade, specialist collec-tors, enthusiastic amateurs andmembers of the public.

    The je we lle ry se c tion wa stowards the end of the sale and

    was topped by a 2.2-carat dia-mond solitaire ring which sold toa telephone bidder at 6,000, nodoubt he lped by its BritishGemology Institute certification.

    A second, marginally larger dia-mond, approximately 2.29 carats,

    set as a pendant with gold neck-lace, sold at 4,000. A muchsmaller solitaire of approximately1 carat achieved a hammer priceof 1,200.

    A ladies gold Omega cocktailwatch achieved 410 against a

    pre-sale estimate of 300. Thiswas topped by a gents Gubelingold watch at 450.

    Despite gold prices having drift-ed slightly from their peak, goldsovereigns continue to attractconsiderable demand and each of

    the 1 4 sov e re ig ns in the sa leachieved an identical hammerprice of 175.

    With commodity prices still verystrong the silver section of thesale performed exceptionally wellwith top price in this section

    going to a heavily embossed silverbaluster coffee pot at 1,000.

    A silver teapot and cream jugsold at 330, a salver at 250 anda cased cruet at 140.

    Local demand remains veryhealthy among collectors of

    Royal Worcester porcelain.A number of signed hand paint-ed pieces attracted considerablede mand inc luding a pa ir of Ricketts vases, which sold in theroom to a local collector for700.
