On arrival ACT Alliance registers the new refugees, finds tents, helps them settle, even late on Friday night. Sometimes they come with luggage and animals, others arrive with nothing.

18.5 million people are affected by the food crisis. The Sahel region covers from left: Mauritania, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon (tip), Chad, Sudan and Eritrea.

On 4 June 2012 the UN had registered 170,489 Malian refugees now living in neighbouring countries and 167,257 Internally Displaced People. Algeria is hosting 30,000 more.
