Testicular Cancer
Testicular Cancer:
• Most common in ages 15-35
1. Undescended testes as child
2. Genetic link
• Look for unusual lumps, swelling, feeling of heaviness, pain, and discomfort in scrotum or abdomen

What is SPERM?• Sperm is the Male
Sex Cell
• The head of the sperm contains the DNA, which when combined with the egg's DNA, will create a new individual
Return to Previous Slide
What is Semen?
• Semen is made up of sperm and seminal fluid.
• As the sperm travels through the male reproductive system the seminal vesicles, prostate and bulbouretheral glands provide fluid that nourish and protect the sperm

Testes and Scrotum
Testes:• Make sperm
• Produce testosterone• Main sex hormone
of males
Scrotum:• Skin-covered sac
that hangs from the body
• Lower temperature than body for sperm production
Return to Previous Slide
Epididymis
Epididymis:• Coiled tube where
sperm mature and are stored
• 2-10 days to mature
Return to Previous Slide
Vas Deferens
Vas Deferens:• Tubes the sperm
pass through to get fluids added (semen)
• Vasectomy- a health care provider closes or blocks the tubes that carry sperm.

Bladder• It is a muscular sac in
the pelvis,
• The bladder stores urine, allowing urination to be infrequent and voluntary.
Return to Previous Slide
Seminal Vesicle• The seminal vesicles
are a pair of tube-like glands.
• Found behind the bladder of males.
• They make most of the content of semen

Penis
Penis:
1. Removes urine from body
2. Delivers sperm to the female
Changes:• Erection:
• Blood vessels fill with blood
• Ejaculation:• Sperm released
from the penis after arousal
• Nocturnal Emissions

Prostate Gland• Walnut-sized gland• Secretes fluid that
nourishes and protects sperm.
• During ejaculation, the prostate squeezes this fluid into the urethra, and it’s expelled with sperm as semen.
Return to Previous Slide
Urethra• Carries urine from
bladder to outside of body
• In MALES it also releases sperm/ semen when penis is erect
• When the penis is erect, urine is blocked from the bladder

Testosterone• Principle Male Sex Hormone and anabolic steroid• Promote tissue growth of testes and prostate gland• Also promotes sexual characteristics increase muscle,
bone mass, & body hair growth.
